@xSuicide Squadx Wow Robert, as always an exceptional work of photography, but I have mixed feelings about the photos; On the one hand it is a visual pleasure to be able to admire them and on the other it is torture for me as a lover of these spiders, since I have not yet been able to catch any of these three versions. A long time ago I had the opportunity to catch both versions of Halloween for a very reasonable price and I let them go. On the other hand I have only seen the SF version a couple of times for sale, one of them very expensive and the other I made an offer to the seller but unfortunately for me we could not reach a god deal for both. I hope there are still some of these versions for me in the wild. And as always when I see the mastery with which you take your photographs, it reminds me that I have to buy a good camera and will take some photography classes or tutorials for beginners. I hope you and your family are well and safe.
Hello everyone! Over on Instagram I have been doing a yearly roundup of Kumon where I post 1 kumon a day for the entire month of June, I call it #KumonKaijune and it is a way I can pay my respects to the master Wizard of Sofubi Shirahama toy! I realize I’ve never attempted something like that here because usually when I post more than a couple photos some members get bent about it. But I wanted to pay my respects here for those that don’t use Instagram. Oni will post my entire month of post for you all to see under the spoiler below. But understand opening it means 25-30 huge photos of beautiful kumon that are currently in my collection. My collection as it stands sits at around 72 kumon specimens however I have had over 100 pass through my web on my quest to build and display my treasures. So without further delay here are my 2020 offerings for KumonKaijune. You can also search that hashtag on IG for all my beauties. Thanks for looking! Spoiler: KumonKaijune 2020
Hmm.....don't have, don't have, don't have, don't have, don't have, don't have, have it!!!, don't have, don't have...I see a theme. Great collection as always @HardDragon !!
Thank you so much!! Reminds me of that Little monsters scene. Got em got em need em got em! Thank you! I’m glad I could share my beauties with you all!
Yesterday was a pretty sweet mail day to say the least. I have been after the First debut release of kumon for a number of years since I’ve decided to go after the first 10 releases. When I started and for a number of years since 2012 I mainly went after blank and marbled kumon not really paying attention to the painted releases. This year 2020 marks 10 years of @shirahamatoy and his creation Kumon and here we have its debut from 2010 aligned up with his most current release and I couldn’t be more happy to have them in the web together. Recently I have been hit with some life changing things that are a daily struggle for me. Needless to say that the hobby of collecting weather it was as a child with Dinosaurs or in my late teens with fitted hats. My 20s with art prints and my current obsession with the world of art toys, the hobby itself has always brought me peace and feeling of accomplishment. When I look at my collection I am filled with pride and joy and it reminds me that no matter what, that with patience you can achieve pretty much anything. Thank you Dennis for creating such wonderful things for all of us to enjoy and doing all that you do for this community. And thank you to @creature_bazaar for being a Segway for all us here in the states to grab some unbelievable pieces we would get the chance at otherwise. Sorry for the wall of emotional text. Much love! Spoiler: B sides
So you're the one who bought that guy. I had no idea that was the first release. Nice get,I'll have to pull the trigger next time.
Congrats on finding the first release. I remember buying that one all those years ago (has it really been 10 years??) and before any of us knew that Kumon would be a perenially in-demand toy. It was just a weird new thing that Dennis was making with Gargamel, and I think I bought it mostly out of curiosity. It's great to see a historic figure go to someone that has such a deep enjoyment of his work.
Thank you it means a ton to have this one on the web. And as hard as they are to come by now I couldn’t pass up the opportunity when I saw it. I’m only 2 away from the first 10 releases. And I’m ok if I don’t ever get them but I am also patient so one day it’ll come. Dennis makes andnpours all love into these little guys and I’ve had the pleaser of seeing them evolve through the years the weight and feel of this first release is so much different then the recent ones. Lighter and more squishy. Absolutely in love with kumon forever
Quite happy with how this one turned out. I don't have a San Baragon, but my one Bullmark seemed like a good fit.
Finally opening it today, this one is definitely one of my favorites now. Crazy that he made it a preorder!
This guy joined the collection a little bit ago. It was that absurd eBay auction I'm sure many of us were watching--I believed the Kumon was a 1/1, and therefore that I was stuck with the seller's terms. I've since learned it's actually a small run from ~2013, so this wasn't my wisest purchase but I'm still very happy with it. The stark clear vinyl breaking up streaks of white and pink really made this one stand out for me, and while the colours are very muted in person, I still think it's a subtle standout. I'd really appreciate any more info on this run, if anyone has seen them around. Spoiler: More photos
@zindabad Very nice photos, this one it’s a great score to any Kumon collection, it is an amazing piece and I am glad that this spider is in a good home with a great collector.
Dennis blogged about it years ago here http://shirahamatoy.blogspot.com/2015/12/sakura.html?m=1 he made a small run and from what I understand is they went to a few toy makers as gifts. Unfortunately the seller of this was incorrect in listing it as a one off. But it is still a beauty non the less.
Coming in with the knowledge as always! Thank you for the post, and for fielding my initial questions about this one.
Thank you, it is one of those figures where the photos cannot do justice to its true beauty, I was surprised by the amount of detail when I had it in my hands, I have tried to take night photos of it to see the GID in action but with the phone but they do not turn out well .
