Both this Garamon and the other more Nag-like Garamon floating around the internet are sculpted by the currently anonymous “Pied Piper.”

I can see why he outsourced the sculpting on the other stuff like the godzila or biolante, with the ultra high detail. But I wish he would have sculpted this, because it looks like something he would have done. But the fact it wasn't sculpted by him but looks like his sculpting takes something away from it for me.

This page has a comic discussing the nag exhibition among other things. The Garamon apparently measures 1,20 metres. Then there's a Godzilla over 2 metres from another show? I don't remember. If someone is fluent in Japanese and wants to translate a recap I sure wouldn't mind lol.

 

Google Translate does have an image upload option. You can download the images from the sofvi.tokyo article, drag and drop and it should detect the language and give a fair translation (English over the original Japanese text). It's not perfect of course but it should give you a good idea of the content.

The translation of the Garamon panel says Shigeru said, “I want to make a 1m20cm Garamon!” and they started by digitally scanning originals. By the time the prototype was completed, he had passed away.

 

It's a good reminder of how short life can be.. Heart attacks suck.

I was pretty curious about the nagball bootleg, so I decided to buy one because I could probably never afford the real... I think it’s pretty cool for $60 USD.





I wonder what Shig would think about his stuff being bootlegged. If medicom or whoever really wants to combat the bootlegging, they’ll have to do something like an open preorder.

 

At first glance, if you were to tell me it's legit I'd have no reason to disbelieve you. The giveaway may be the pores. They're just a bit too sanded over, and the real ones tend to be more "clogged" with vinyl boogers from being so small. But that's such a tiny detail.

 

From what I can see from the photos, the ones being offered on UK ebay currently, are not as good as that. More money than that too.

 

Have you also been looking at the GID and clear Nagballs on eBay.co.uk? I've had them in my watchlist since they were listed, but I ain't touching them

This version of the Garamon is maybe a Terminator reference? I think I haven't seen that before, not sure anymore... Lot's of details to poke at for sure.

 

I think its supposed to reference this cutaway. I cant decide if I like it or it belongs in the fugly thread.

as tired as a trend might be its easy to recognize when something is done well.

 

Looks like the giant Garamond does indeed have the marusan logo sculpted into the side of the foot, if you scroll through the insta post. Wonder how this works with Marusan?

 

Marusan was likely asked for permission to use the likeness of the original toy and their logo, like Super7 did with their Godzilla Reaction figure.

 

Do they get royalties?

 

I can imagine it's a different deal every time it's done. I can ask.

It would be very poor form for the Nags or anyone else to make something like this and not work with Marusan or Bullmark. Glad they did.

if they’re going this route. Make an open edition of his works (the ones ppl want to buy mostly) and just cash out bc these licensed projects come off as actual cash grabs.
