I think it is a pity to see all the things of a friend sold without proper explanations and credits. A paint that one of my friend gifted him was sold as Shigeru’s paint. All of the vintage repaints and repairs were not rightly described, and it’s up to you to decide whether they are plus or minus from a vintage collector’s point of view.

I know that a bunch of people offered a very reasonable amount of money to purchase those goods, willing to create proper exhibitions to remember our dear friend in the right way.
Unfortunately, the family took the decision to trust someone who promised them more, but in the end delivering less than expected.

I saw many times with my eyes how much Shigeru did to gather all those items, and each of them expresses his tastes and passions.
It is a pity, again, to see what happened.

I am a little surprised to see the newest Medicom Nag stuff exhibited by 4KDO10. The brand seems to primarily exhibit Chinese/Taiwanese makers--a good subset of whom moonlight as Japanese, or have done so in the past through aesthetics and omission.

Of course they have exhibited Nag toys many times in the past as well, and as an outsider to this world, I don't know my ass from my elbow, obviously. The Chinese/Taiwanese artists in question also do great work for the most part.

I do still wonder if their being exhibited alongside new Nag works is an attempt to elevate some of the other artists on show to major hype status. It is really the absence of other Japanese artists in the lineup, besides Maruhachi Gangu and Aruimi Makezu, that stands out to me.

Anyway, stoking hype is nothing new in this scene and definitely not restricted to a particular country. Wondered if anyone on the boards had more insight, though.

Shigeru started 4KDO10 movement involving Japanese and Asian sofubi artist, but also to promote his toys in several occasions.
Regarding Japanese artists attending 4KDO10, in the last event few days ago, you should have noticed also a great Japanese artist, Super Original, and Gomora, sculpted by Pied Piper, who is Japanese.
They weren’t for sale, but Goro’s Zanzingans were also exhibited.

Thank you! I realised my post was premature after seeing more photos of the exhibit. I apologise for my reaction.

Not sure if this has been discussed, but does anyone know about the company "NAG-G"? They seem to be re-hashing Shig's designs with mash-ups of ideas from the NAG line. Any affiliation?

They're made by our notorious bootlegger friend sofubi_sales_fuck_your_mother as a misguided tribute to Shig... (I love you Shig! Lemme try to tank your aftermarket by flooding it with fakes!). They're awful.

Wow, that's slimey as hell. How could he call himself a real fan? I get it when he was like, "fuck the hype scene--toys for all!" (though i only half-believed in his sincerity). It seems he wants to exploit the absence of his "hero" for his own gain, full throttle. i could be wrong, but that's how it strikes me. He might've been the happiest to learn of Shig's death. gross!

So what is the pricing of these bootlegs like? MVH bootleg pricing or Super Dino Monster bootleg pricing?

It’s pretty genius how they were able to transition NAG the artist over to New Art Guild and continue using the name and logo for the foreseeable future without anyone batting an eye.

I wonder how many years it’s gonna take before people forget Shig and just know NAG as New Art Guild ?

By then it won't be a new art guild, and they will have to rename it.

Funny thing, I never actually realized until Rich’s post from yesterday that “New Art Guild” could be abbreviated as NAG. To me NAG can only mean Shigeru Arai. Accept no imitations.

And NAG spelled backwards is GAN, which is Japanese for "cancer."

No more please. That's just another Medicom licensed toy, stop letting them slap NAG on their toys to scam more money.

Well like I said it’s the New Art Guild. It’s not Shig NAGNAGNAG anymore. The name has been re branded.

That’s awful. Posthumous Nag is by no means NagNagNag, it’s a full-on insult. Not surprising I guess, but very disappointing for sure. Yuck.

"Posthumous Nag" sounds like the name of a jazz musician.

I don't understand 'Rebranded' ... so that basically means cashing-in on an established brand name, whilst the brand is now completely different. Seems a bit shady doesn't it?

I'd avoid any Nag toy released after his death as the quality of the toy are just not as good as the ones produced while he was alive, probably due to his quality control for the old releases.
