I had a camouflage 4 eyes and it's literally only toy (besides a Paul Kaiju Biterman) Ive regretted letting go. I mean there are a lot of great artists, but it will be the one toy I hunt down someday when I can afford to.

Something I’ve noticed, and I don’t know if it’s a coincidence or intentional, is that when certain indie artists sign on with Medicom they end up cranking out iterations of licensed IP. Anraku, HxS, NNN, who else…

I guess because everyone wants to make a Goji at some point and Medicom can handle the licensing fees?

I think you are seeing this now in the surge in vintage pricing. What deep pocket collectors are just figuring out. As hot as an artist seems their independent work and characters has a relatively small interest pool. Where it’s likely Godzilla or Hedorah will still have a large fan base in a century. They know this so they attach themself to the IP.

 

While I don't disagree with any of these points, I also think its a way for companies that own IP to have interesting fresh takes and have new products developed accordingly. It isn't a one-way street where indie artists benefit exclusively, especially when they are being actively courted by some license holders

That Gary isn’t any different from original standard bullmark. Knowing (and having worked with) Medicom, I’d bet it’s a straight scan and digital upsize, that they just added the posthumous nag stamp to so they can sell it for thousands more. People will swallow it whole I’m sure, but it really isn’t at all any different or new… The guy can’t even do a sample paint now…

 

Remember, Nag is no longer Arai-san. And yeah, it definitely looks like a 3D model upsized.

And I'm not saying it doesn't make sense. Most artists are also collectors... who wouldn't want to make their own version of the classic characters that started it all?

 

If it's scanned from an original, they likely ran it by Bullmark and/or Marusan. Similar projects have done that. I wonder what kind of packaging that would have.

 

Yes I was surprised too, when I first saw it I thought it was a new giant M1 figure. I had no idea it was NAG until I saw it mentioned on IG. Who knows now what Shigs role was. Are they going to incubate every passing thought he had now to make money. I think it’s important as collectors when they take this approach we probe them for information on his involvement and hold them accountable
