How many of these were made I wonder?!
I'm sure they'll continue to sell for plenty, but I love the thought of buyers 1 and 2 seeing this and shedding a tear.
@Mr. Humphreys The 2HBemon blanks are kinda low in numbers, usually. Not micro run numbers, but between 10 and 20. It is a little weird to see four pop up in such a short amount of time, though!
@xSuicide Squadx Robert, do you think there's a chance these last two-headed Bemons are Bootlegs? That someone is introducing them to the market via auctions.
Or maybe that the same manufacturer did another micro run?
@Alebrije I can’t definitively rule out bootlegs, but I’m of the strong opinion that this isn’t the case. It’s possible that Bemon might’ve re - pulled the blanks, but I also find that highly unlikely. Truthfully, no one knows how many of these exist except Honda and the people he handed them to. But it’s not uncommon for people to get toys from Honda and still sell them. Or even if these collectors got them from a third party and decided to still sell, anyway.
Well, look at the closing prices. From $2500 on the first down to $900 on the last! Ouch.
@xSuicide Squadx , Thank you! It just seems weird, that for such a "rare" toy, more keeps popping up!
Sorta poetic justice that the prices keep dropping with every "recurrence"
@Mr. Humphreys The first time I saw it pop up was on a close friend of Honda’s IG I follow. Only other times I’ve seen ‘em are in these listings, and not directly in collections that haven’t been by way of said listings. So I’m unsure of exactly how many are out there, and who, besides the one dude I follow, received/bought ‘em! I do agree it’s pretty ironic that the price continues to decrease with each listing, but that’s usually how it goes when people try to cash in all at once!
"RX-78-2 First Gundam" Soft Vinyl New unused! Clover Jumbo Machine Dar Went for: 202,000 yen
I had not seen this figure before, I liked it a lot but I don't know anything about the figure, if anyone has more information about the figure, I would appreciate sharing it with me.
I think it was releases less than 1 year ago, there was also a blue version (for mk-ii Gudam?).
Bur i don't remember seing gold parts though...
The Gundam is made by Maize. I believe they’re based out of Hong Kong, but it seems they had these produced in Japan. That colorway (and the model itself) appears to be an homage to the Clover Gundam diecast toy. More info on that here:
It’s jumbo scale, but comes up a bit short at 20” when compared to the original 24” Jumbo Machinder toys by Popy. It seems to have a lot of great details and mixed media aspects not found on a lot of contemporary jumbo releases. They originally sold for 45,000yen (or at least that’s what it says on the box). How limited the production was I can’t be too sure, but I wouldn’t bet the numbers would be too low considering the license. I’ve seen quite a few for sale on a regular basis. They’re always fetching for 300-400% retail. A bit absurd if you ask me considering how many vintage jumbos one could find in good shape for that price. I can see the appeal though. There’s at least one other color—a black variation. I’m not sure if there are any plans to produce more.
Thank you very much for all the information it was very helpful, to be honest I did not know anything about this piece until I saw it at the auction, so I really appreciate all the information you have shared.
Pilot Ace Monster Dynamite! Son Godzilla Soft Vinyl Godzilla's Son Minilla Original Coloring.
I understand that it is increasingly rare to see these Pilot Ace figures for sale but I have never seen this original green color before, despite being a rare colorway I am more attracted to the more colorful versions of Pilot Ace, but of course I would love to have this original color in my collection.
Went for: 85,000¥
★ BEMON ★ Pollution Monster
I don't know how rare this version is, but at least for me it is very striking.
Went for: 96,102 yen
I was watching this one to see where it’d end. While $900+ is no slouch, it’s not as much as i thought it’d be. The description says it’s a “valuable coloring sample” though, and I can’t recall ever seein’ it before! The blue and green pollution running down the back was an awesome surprise goin’ through the photos!
It's not that it's cheap but I also thought the auction would end higher. Robert do you think that this specimen could be from an event or a micro-run? I don't know if it's my imagination, but I get the impression that the price of certain figures in YJP is already the same or in some cases higher than in Mandarake.
@Alebrije I’ve only got the seller calling it a sample to go on. As far as it being from an event, I’d say that’s pretty unlikely, unless it was one of the early fests Yoda used to sell Bemon at when the Kougai hit people’s radars. Just lookin’ at this, though, my eyes would say this looks like a recent - ish paint, style wise! But then again I’m constantly surprised by what I learn about Bemon and the toys. If people are willing to pay Mandarake prices it’s not surprising to me that they’ll reach similar levels on YJA. Just depends on who’s bidding and how badly they want it!
Neat to see one of these with very clearly defined lines and a high-contrast paintjob. On the other hand I'm really not a purple-and-green guy
I don't really know what is happening with that green clear version of Bemon but the fact that so many of the same ones have come out in such a short time is not normal, for some reason I think it could be copies. Or the other option is that the same artist is bringing them to the market via YJP, in fact he has done it before with other figures.
Purple and green Kougai had a run of 15 or 20 behind it, I own one but the colors are more subdued. His pix look level boosted. Pretty sure that's Honda selling these. I noticed theses Kougai samples being listed about 4 years ago. They have become more frequent the last 1-2 years.
Yep, if not him then someone he's trusting with distribution. No other way to explain an account with a history of selling Bemon, including tests and bona fide new releases, dropping 5 of these in a couple of months.
Delta Vinyl TC-08 Dark
Went for 79,001yen
And I can't understand why...
Not an auction, but it hurt to look at Mandarake and miss this. Pretty low price on it as well. I'm sure they could have gotten double that.
Wow. I wonder where the hell that came from? Pretty cool to see, regardless. And that price is definitely nice for something I never thought I’d see. I got my painted version off eBay for $147 about four years ago, and the prices have skyrocketed since Medicom’s rebirthing the figure with Hirota. $300 for something I’d consider exceedingly rare is quite reasonable.
