Re: Stoner/Doom Actually it's not. He used to play an Ibanez that would go out of tune after every song.
Re: Stoner/Doom Did not know this... an Ibanez? I know got that First Act a few years ago that took him 2 hours to tune before every show. The first 8 out of 11 times I've HOF it was with the Gibson and all the old Sleep footage I've seen was with that Gibson so I just assumed. Either way, bad news
Re: Stoner/Doom This is on netflix instawatch. i really liked it. caught myself tearing up while watching.
Re: Stoner/Doom Saw them a few times in 92 / 93, pre-Green / MATAMPs. They were kinda horrible, sound wise, and it took me a while to get into them because of it. The Ibanez just couldn't handle the lower turnings they were using and sounded terrible because of it.
Re: Stoner/Doom I guess it's like trying to do a burnout in a Ford Escort. Edit: funny enough, there is a shit load of Ford Escort burnout videos on YouTube Last Days Here is good but really depressing and at times very awkward.
Re: Stoner/Doom I wish it had more music. Especially during the final performance with the weird crowd noise.
Re: Stoner/Doom Has anyone gave a listen to the live Sleep set in Berkeley 2/21/92? "Hot Lava Man" is amazing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=40ET-Uv-_SU
Re: Stoner/Doom Does this count? Probably not. I'm posting because I just remembered the pocket-review that was taped to the copy of this LP when I picked it up back in '93 - "Like taking a 70 minute dump."
Re: Stoner/Doom It counts, as most Earth stuff is drone doom. Also, it rules and their last two albums are really good as well. I actually just got my girlfriend into them since I've been listening to a lot of Earth lately.
Re: Stoner/Doom Will do! My Norksa 12" from Brutal Panda just came in -- Sweet swamp green / dark grey side by side mixed vinyl. I think they're all random, curious what others here may have gotten.
Re: Stoner/Doom Loving these dudes right now. New band from the guy who was in Gorilla, anyone remember them?
Re: Stoner/Doom Love it. I was lucky to get the limited purple LP w/7" for $35 from a distro shop. Been playing it a ton lately.
Re: Stoner/Doom Thanks for the tip. Love it. I'm always afraid when I start listening to any Doom that I'm gonna hear some death metal vocals, I hate that (unless it's death metal) and so when I hear real singing I'm always really grateful. Ordering the green vinyl NOW.
Re: Stoner/Doom SL has really been on top of it lately! Proton Beast, a two-piece disco-doom band from Auckland. http://protonbeast.bandcamp.com/
Re: Stoner/Doom Urgh - I just saw The Sword's pre-order. The GID vinyl with black light triptych lithograph and t-shirt looks pretty sweet - but I don't need the CD and a slipmat...can't justify the price tag. Especially for not being all that huge a fan - I like 'em but don't love 'em.
Re: Stoner/Doom I do love 'em, and saw the black light poster / GID vinyl bundle after already ordering the lava vinyl. But I don't need all of that extra crap either. Edit: jk, I'm buying both. Fuck. http://youtu.be/JjuDQ1ryUHY Edit: jk, I canceled my lava vinyl in favor of this bundle. What a pain in the b*tt I am.
Re: Stoner/Doom The shirt, LP and litho are all awesome looking - wish I could throw down for the set. I'll probably just pre-order the Lava vinyl though. Hope the album is good - I was pretty disappointed with Warp Riders initially and only recently started to appreciate it. I wanted it to have more of a sci-fi sound, given the subject matter and album cover.
