Re: Stoner/Doom Agreed -- I like that shirt design a lot more than most other Sword ones. I have the 'planet' one and never wear it. I wasn't too into Warp Riders at first either, but it quickly became one of my favorite albums of 2010, it's perfect the whole way through. From what I've heard, Apocryphon is kind of more of the same but has some areas with synth(!).
Re: Stoner/Doom That's how I feel about The Sword as a whole. I suppose consistency counts for something! Perhaps it's better that they keep putting out good records that sound similar, rather than changing for the worse. And with Warp Riders I may have learned a lesson - not to expect something drastically different - and will enjoy Apocryphon from the jump.
Re: Stoner/Doom Same here. Really like the new Earth. I don't grab that much music anymore so I don't even know most of these bands. I think the only other stuff I have is the sunn 0))) white 1 & 2 white lp's...and I bought those years ago. I liked the two albums but never followed them after that.
Re: Stoner/Doom Yeah, I like Earth - though I haven't heard their last two albums. The last one I bought/heard was And The Bees Made Honey... - really like that direction they went in, though I guess it started with Hibernaculum, which I also really liked. And of course Extra Capsular Extraction and Pentastar!
Re: Stoner/Doom Adding another +1 to Olde Growth -- This is very good and I'm only on the first track. Hope it keeps up, haha. Tempted to grab the forest green record, but I need to slow down on the other vinyl collecting after dropping that load on the Sword pre-order. Anyway, thanks for the recommendation, Acolorfulmonster! Keep 'em coming. Can't really get into Admiral Sir Cloudesley Shovell though. I think it's the vocals. Might need to give it another try as Rise Above are usually pretty stellar with their output. Oh, and I took a closer look at my Norska s/t, I was wrong about there being grey in there. Pretty sure I got the same mix as deadboy.
Re: Stoner/Doom this was a pretty good listen.. http://hangmanschair.bandcamp.com/album/hope-dope-rope
Re: Stoner/Doom You're not allowed to post in this thread any longer. I hope you've given it a few more listens. I'm hooked. That's a pretty good comparison. Didn't think it was that accurate until I started singing the songs to myself. Anyone checking out Goat yet? Not completely "stoner" but pretty fucking stoney. Love the strained vocals, heavy bass and fuzzed out wah guitar.
Re: Stoner/Doom Edit: Wow. Goya is fucking awesome. Had to break my record-only rule and grab their cd I was so impressed. Thanks, dude! Edit 2: Here's some pretty good nearly-instrumental stoner drone groovy shit. And hey, they've got a track titled Moth Ra, so there's that -- Sun Eater. But wait, there's more: Carrion Mother, post-metally sludgy doomy and droney 13-18 minute long tracks? I don't know, you can only use so many adjectives when describing music and I know I'm terrible at it, but I really like this so far. And then this just came out: Going to be a busy music-filled weekend.
Re: Stoner/Doom Anyone want a free copy of Windhand - s/t? I've got the record and I'm trying to purge a vast majority of my too-large cd collection. Just pay a few bucks postage and it's yours. Offer only open to stoner doom fans! <img src=\"{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_smile.gif\" alt=\"\" title=\"Smile\" /> Edit: Gonzo.
Re: Stoner/Doom Anybody got a DL for Eagle Twin's new album? Got the LP yesterday, but would like a copy to throw on my ipod.
Re: Stoner/Doom Ahh, You might check Filestube or Digital Meltdown. I don't know how the board treats direct linking of downloads though.
Re: Stoner/Doom Thanks - found a live one! And it's the LP version too! I don't think there's ever been an issue with someone posting a direct link - just as long as it's not a live auction link!
Re: Stoner/Doom Ummm, Facebook recommended this Boris interview to me. This is the first thing Facebook has ever recommended that I've actually clicked on. Figured I'd share here. http://www.steelforbrains.com/post/3173 ... -interview
Re: Stoner/Doom Anybody else get the new Eagle Twin? Thoughts? So far I like it, but it's not as powerful as The Unkindness of Crows. It's not as focused. There's such heavy and hypnotic stuff on that first album - that last song, And It Came To Pass That Birds Rain Down As Black Snakes, just can't be topped. But I like the nod to Earth's A Bureaucratic Desire For Revenge at the very end of Snake Hymn. All in all I think the album mainly suffers because what preceded it was perfect.
Re: Stoner/Doom I'll have to check it out this weekend -- I don't think I've liked much of their past output, but I could be getting them confused with someone else. The new Witchcraft is getting played over and over by me over here. I've absolutely loved all of their other albums, and this one is not a letdown in the least bit. That, the Goya demo and Carrion Mother - Koronis are my favorites lately.
Re: Stoner/Doom Thanks dude, glad you like them! The forest green vinyl is well worth it... Trust me, it looks badass! I did the art for that vinyl release and im pretty sure they have an EP coming out beginning of next year so keep them eyes peeled!
Re: Stoner/Doom Just some track that was previewed a few weeks ago -- Sounded good though. Will definitely be checking it out.
Re: Stoner/Doom More of the same but a little gloomier. It seems to drag a bit and it's nothing earth shattering but still enjoyable Gloomy groovy death done right
Re: Stoner/Doom Witchcraft - White Light Suicide Sorry, but if any of you guys don't like this, then I can't be your friend anymore. It starts slow, but just wait... Magic ritualistic funeral pyre. Edit: This other Swedish stoner band Horisont is pretty awesome too. Not sure how I'm just now finding out about them. Those Swedes sure do know how to jam.
Re: Stoner/Doom Horisont are great. Have you checked out Brutus? Just throwing it out there in case you missed em too. You can possibly ignore me since I'm skeptical of the new witchcraft. I kind of gave up on them after seeing them live. Magnus was so cheesy. Seems things have gotten worse from the footage I've seen since he no longer has a guitar to hide behind. I'm sure I'll check it out but I'm looking forward to the new Spiders more. In my opinion John Hoyles out put has been more impressive since leaving Witchcraft (Troubled Horse / Spiders).
Re: Stoner/Doom http://rabbitusmaximus.bandcamp.com/album/bites-rites awesome sludge out of portland..and skinner did the cover art
