Has the Sleep vinyl re-issue started arriving yet?

I got a notice saying it shipped last week but it has not arrived...

I got my shipping notice today. I hope I catch it before it sits out in the sun on my porch all day.

I don't know how this slipped past my radar, but 5 years later I'm hooked. Upon first listen I thought it was a one trick pony kind of record but on subsequent listens I've come to the conclusion that the songs are awesome, totally catchy and the flow of the record is great. The sound takes me back to the early 90s, but with better production.

I just checked aquarius records to see if they ever reviewed it. They did. As usual, lots of stuff slips through the cracks with the amount of stuff they review. Anyway their review is pretty spot, and more, to what I was thinking when listening the first few times.

For those who might have missed this also.

WINTERS Black Clouds In Twin Galaxies
"We've had this record by British band Winters (not to be confused with seminal doom-dirge act Winter) for some time now, but as with so many deserving things, didn't find time to review it until now, and it's a shame 'cause it's a great album we probably should have highlighted back when. Well, great if you love Nirvana and things that sound like Nirvana. The worst criticism (unoriginality) that could be leveled against Winters is also their biggest draw - how much they sound like good ol' Nirvana!! That's right. Though this came out (in '07) via England's hairy, heavy Rise Above label (home to the doomy, stoner likes of Electric Wizard and Witchcraft, among others), Winters are a bit poppier than you might expect. With loads of fuzzy, crunchy guitar riffs, yeah - but definitely poppy in an old school GRUNGE way, complete with slightly whiney, sometimes sing-songy vocals very reminiscent of Kurt Cobain's. The Melvins and Black Sabbath and '60s garage psych are all obvious influences (the band also cites The Creation, The Kinks, Elliott Smith, and Witchfinder General, among other inspirations). Their song "Aftershown" is what "Iron Man" would have sounded like if it had been ripped off by Kurt for inclusion on Bleach! And there's plenty more of those sorts of Sabbath meets Shocking Blue riffs and hooks on here, both languid and lurching. Aside from Nirvana, we'd also figure that fans of old Soundgarden and Fudge Tunnel might dig this, among others... or for more recent reference, how 'bout imagining a hybrid of the first albums from Burning Brides and Witch?"

I'm ready for their new release on Ván Records this summer!

Speaking of Ván Records. The single from Gold, I only know Gone Under, is awesome!

Pretty cool. Seriously solid music. I hear a little Josh Homme in the vocals, but in a less annoying way. And Plotkin mastered it.

I looked up Andrew Elstner. Saw he's now in Torche and is the guy who had the bat piss in his eye.

I posted about them a while back, I think -- Absolutely love them.

When I drove from Florida to Georgia to see Agalloch, they were one of the opening bands. It always kind of sucks to see a band who you aren't familiar with, but I was blown away. Doom like theirs (of the crushing, funerary sort) is some of my absolute favorite live music.

The track on that album with the Pallbearer vocalist (Silent and Completely Overcome) is especially incredible.

    Re: Stoner/Doom

While I have gone to tons of shows where that's the case, and have discovered countless bands that way (clearly, as noted), I prefer knowing songs to just listening to them for the first time. Adding to that, so many bands are better in the studio than live.

Ok, so it doesn't suck, but whatever.

And, for every great "unknown" band you find there's 100 crap bands to suffer through.
I'm with ya, J - I only go to shows when there's a band playing that I know & want to see. And it's a nice bonus when a band in the line-up that I'm not familiar with turns out to be good.

Haha, right, and then there's that suffering part too. I've been to a lot of local hardcore and metal shows that I wish I had just passed on, or showed up only in time for the headliner. I love live music, but sitting through something abysmally bad is frustrating.

In SF, during the stoner hey day of the late 90s early 00's, I learned to show up late for any show Acid King opened.

I'm so fucking excited for this. You should be too.

Sad, but not too surprised, to see that their tour with YOB is coming nowhere near me.

The new Samothrace came out today. I haven't heard it yet, but will probably blind buy it, just based on how much I enjoyed their first album.

Anyone diggin the new Adrift For Days album?

The first song rules and the last song is fucking brutal.. and both are totally what I go for in doom music but everything inbetween really isnt doin it for me. I wanna like this band but sadly I can only get into a few tracks from them.

That's what I like to hear. <img src=\"{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_smile.gif\" alt=\":)\" title=\"Smile\" /> I'm currently rocking the shit out of my 'blue mask' Norska shirt as seen on their bandcamp, a new favorite.

EVOM -- Haven't checked it out. May do so now to see what you're talking about.

just picked up the new Samothrace. 2 tracks 35 minutes, a little more groove than their last record.

This thread makes me wish I was 23 again and constantly stoned.
