@chimply.kaiju - Thanks, Anthony. The Gavial is 3.5" tall and wide, and 6" from tail to snout. I am really pleased with these YW sculpts. I feel like I totally slept on a couple of those crocodiles and alligators, and I regret missing the green ones with more natural colors. The full-on rainbow color patterns are a bit too much for me though, haha. I would love to find some metallic painted versions similar to these.
When they debut, they were quite expensive at auction reaching $100. They seem like they would go very well with the Takepico line. Glad you were able to grab them. Hopefully I would be able to get some in the future.
I am trying to figure out what B Movie inspired the sculpt for Astro Kong. I know about Space Sasquatch and Terror in the Midnight sun. Any help? Speaking of, I am looking hard to find a Space Sasquatch for sale or trade. Any help on that too would be appreciated.
Not from a B Movie, it's based on Orangapoid, as played by Ray Corrigan in Buster Crabbe Flash Gordon movie serials. Ep08 Tournament Of Death
Kichigai! Genuis!! Wow that is spot on and I am soooooo glad I am getting Astro Kong in tomorrow's mail. Ill post pics. Who ever heard of a horny Gorilla, why Flash Gordon did!
@JungleGeorge Looking forward to seeing which version you get. Personally I think the best one is this version... As for other related information, Orangapoid (Flash Gordon too!) inspired quite a few apes with horns. Obscure pulp, golden and silver age magazine's had rips on it as well but perhaps the most well known is the Star Trek alien called Mugato... Which, while totally weird and the costume straight up bizarre, Mego made a Mugato look like this... Which in all likelihood, quite possibly inspired the head of one of my all time favorites by Amapro...
LOL Horny apes everywhere. Ill post this afternoon, thats when the mail person comes. Do you know where I might get a Space Sasquatch? I am dying for one. I dig those tusky tusks of his.
Outside of Japan, not really unless you have a time machine. If you do happen to have a time machine Lmk where I can hitch a ride. Mine broke down so I have been stranded.
Kichigai, Am I seeing things OR is this also a version of Space Sasquatch? It looks to me like he has HORNS on his head, 2 big Silver horns!! WT?
Nope. No horns just wrinkles in the bag. Afaik the only first wave SHB creature to get reworked was the one with 3 eyes. Lulubell just had a release of it. I think someone is selling it in BST if you need that *Edit http://skullbrain.org/bb/index.php?threads/skull-head-butt.52688/ Do you have a favorite SHB? KM just had a whole slew of really great ones. Prices were not even too bad for 1 offs
My Astro Kong just showed up in the mail. He is my favorite SHB so far! Check out his color scheme, I like it better than the Glitter Gold now that I have him in hand.
Wow that's my new favorite version. Ain't they a pair? Love the Willard item(s) vintage window card from a theater? Lamp and sheets are nice too!
John, this photo is mine. Sold it last year or the year before? It was a Dept-H release. I still have this hiding somewhere in my collection. @JungleGeorge - Hugo, some very nice grabs. Some patience, I am sure the Space Sasquatch will pop up for sale eventually.
@chimply.kaiju Still wish I could have bought that from you Anthony! I'm sure whoever did still loves it tho... That other version you posted, is that the very first release?
Sculpted by Zectron. Cast by both Eric Nilla and Trutek (Niall). Niall produced this particular version of Atomic Uchuujin. Super fun toy!
LOL, Yes they are a pair, Glad I held onto the Jungle King, I had another in brown but sold him. The Willard Poster is real and was one of my favorite movies back in the day. I remember the ads, and I think we finally saw it at the Drive In Theartre. The lamp is MCM vintage. Kichigai, are you in Japan? With all those Sofubi stores, I would camp out every morning. Still on the hunt for Space Sasquatch. I wish people here would post their versions of him!
So I hear a Robo Kong just went up for sale here, is there a special page for that? Or is it just random thread where it might be posted?
Consolidate your posts you must, young padawan. Nice apes btw, those were always some of my favorite SHB toys. The head sculpt details are great in hand.
new addition to my almost complete collection of B movie ape monsters.... well ape related anyways. Welcome Robo Kong, and thank you TC for sending him to me. many thanks
