Stumbled upon this little guy and he looked real familiar to one of the new grody minis. I hadn't realized this was a homage to a vintage toy!
I see exponentially more new Grody on Mandarake than I do via Lullubel Toy Bodega. Any insight why this is? I'm guessing because it's easier to drop it off at Mandarake than it is to mail internationally.
@Brooklyn_Vinyl International mail and risings costs for shipping is playing a part, but it’s also Grody wanting to leave more and bigger footprints at home. I can say, though, keep your eyes on Lulubell US soon.
I love finding the original toys that grody used to make his own. Here's the spaceman he used which was a KFC finger puppet. Maybe grody wanted some Cole slaw and picked up a fingie puppet.
yeh, I spotted this 'IDEAL TSUKUDA KENNER ALIEN ALIENS ACTION FIGURE VINYL SOFUBI VINTAGE 1979 JAPAN' toy on UK fleabay for 400 quid...dunno if anyone here has discussed this toy before? The seller thinks it could be from a game but I haven't found anything. 00 by i thorn, on Flickr
Wow, I have never seen that Alien figure before, but it seems odd that it has eyes. Maybe some pachi item? (I am aware that Tsukuda bootlegged the Kenner toy so they were already sort of in the "pachi" business.)
@hellscrape talked about this on a post! We found a rather specific source thank you! Apparently someone on the lulubell page said grody bought the molds at a Japanese flea market for this alien figure. Apparently it was for a bingo game and you pulled balls out of his mouth.
ah cool,I had been digging for info for ages, cheers. Xenomorph bingo lol 'two fat face huggers forty four!'
Honestly I find it hilarious that something super cool and mysterious was made for something as mundane as a receptacle for a bingo game. Very Japanese lol We did it gang!
It was called horror bingo or something like that and it had multicolored monster keshi figures that you pulled out edit- here you go https://k.mandarake.co.jp/auction/item/itemInfoEn.html?index=644957
Wow, that is funny. So Tsukuda wasn't selling it as an Alien product, they just made it Alien-ish. (also, #dontstickyourdickinthat)
What ever happened with this project? Did people end up getting their heads, I feel like I haven't seen much posted. Hopefully everyone was happy with their results.
The project is ongoing. There were several delays and most recently a problem with the wax phase. I'll share more next time there is an update.

Yep! Turned out nice! I'd post mine but I dont post my stuff on SB, hehe, still sewing my asbestos jacket.
There are some bodies thrown in, if you werent aware, nice surprise. And I may have miscounted but I feel like it was a couple more than 15 heads. This is my first japanese vinyl, fun to compare to my US made stuff, honestly, feeling very happy w/ MileHigh vinyl quality (which is great), but will probably try to get something made in japan every couple years or so. Continued goon projects is probably just fine for that for me.
I assumed there would be some delays. Luke hasn't responded to any of my dm's and he usually gets right back to me. I still in shock from what has happened. I just talked to Amy a month and a half back about some things. It's completely heartbreaking.
