I’m really enjoying Luke’s livestreams. I don’t watch much television or video media, but his videos are something I look forward to daily now. such a fun guy to listen to and learn from.
Oh man he's definitely and interesting story teller. I try to tune in to everyone and can't wait to hop on his new project!
I love Luke, but selling brand new toys directly to Mandarake for pennies doesn't seem like the greatest move.
To be fair he asked people in a live stream prior to doing it and got the go ahead. It was five toys from a forty piece collab (plus a Mr. Useless and a Chiba Boy). The rest will be spread across Lulubell, Lulubell Japan and Sankakuyama Books. Doing what he did he got to clear some space, go for a bike ride (which we got to tag along for) and made a few toys available to people who can't easily obtain them from those regular channels. I say thumbs up ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I’ve got a head I’ve been working on here and there for over two years now. I’d work on it, ignore it for six months, work on it some more. It’s the first thing I’ve sculpted actually, and I really haven’t had the positive motivation to really give a shit where it was going. Until this. I think I might see if my daughter wants to go for it too. She’s a more productive and happy sculptor than I am by far. This is such a rad idea and I’m so intrigued to see the figures that come out of it. Hats off to Lulubell and Grody for going out on a limb to do this for someone like me. edit: it’s my birthday present to myself.
Last time Grody Shogun did this. (When they first came out.) I sent money over and never got my custom toys. Lesson learned.
Did some digging if I'm right then it was the custom paint/vinyl color monster body and was $35 dollars and a NYCC exclusive. Very sad to hear these weren't fulfilled for you guys.
A real bummer to hear for sure. For what its worth, I submitted a couple DIY Grody monsters and were delivered without issue. Someone on the board still has them, i've seen them floating around IG too i think.
For the original 2011 Make a monster you designed the colorway on a coloring template for a 1 off painted by Luke. You got to pick from the existing body styles, heads, etc. I feel like at least a hundred people sent in their ideas and it went a bit crazy. It took a long time for people to get these as a result, and some never did. Even with the slow/poor execution, it was really fun idea. It was also cheaper and easier to buy into than sculpting a head and paying $300. That said, I love this new idea 1000x more and I'm already bought in on it.
Thanks or clarifying, David. I’m still on board. It’s unfortunate the original go in 2011 turned into what I guess it turned into.
I am considering buying into this and using my Bam Bam head, because it works so well on the monster body. But I’m a little apprehensive about the random grouping. If anyone here wants to form a group let me know.
