Has ebay just turned into an overpriced showroom where folks park "make me sell" insanely priced BINs that sit out there forever? Kinda like those 2006 Gargamel unpainted neons that have been on YJA for over ten years now? Is this the new trend?
Unfortunately, it does seem to be going that way, its exasperating and I let out an incredulous chuckle when I see some of them.
Would be funny if this was secretly a massive run and they get pumped out one by one over a few years
Hmmm, okay. Well now. I know it is just wallpaper, but the background and posing of that second listing is exactly the same as the first one - I even had to go back and double check to make sure that the same image wasn't just recycled for the listing. IF it were the same seller, that would be even more odd, as these were presumably a 'close family/friend' release. I honestly don't even know how his model these days works, being so far removed from the level of qualification to collect, but could this be him actually selling them (somewhat like Hirota) to fund his other work? It is definitely the same seller as the first listing captured here.
Honda has his own account that he knowingly sells from. It’s some form of Bemon_Nippon, or a variation. They come up from every so often on that account. I wouldn’t rule out the possibility of him maybe having friends sell for him, but with his own account selling his own figures I wouldn’t see the point. Samples and tests get sold by various accounts from all over Japan semi - frequently, so I just see this as collectors capitalizing. His runs are generally in the low 30’s(30 - 33) so it’s entirely possible a handful of people selling after seeing what others are getting.
Okay, that's what I was thinking was more or less the most likely scenario too, but thanks for clarifying Robert. This being the same person, with the exact same toy though (of a limited run) makes me think this is exactly the sort of re-saling which should be sought out and discouraged.
@ultrakaiju Ah, okay! I admittedly haven’t kept up with who’s listing what, but if it’s the same person listing the same 2HBemon then I’d like to think that would make anyone suspicious. Only other possibility I could see is winners not paying up and this guy having to relist? Either way, I’ll never have one so...
I think this is a friend's account more than anything nefarious. This account "recordead9" sells most of the one-off sample paint Kougai that have come up for sale lately.
Agreed Mark-I’m pretty sure it’s a Bemon-sanctioned seller that is selling a portion of this clear green run for Honda, and just recycling photos or whatever since it’s a blank. The seller has had too many gems sold at a rapid clip to not have a direct line to Honda. Best blank 2HB ever produced imho.
I was going to mention that in a "fuck you" thread. I mean, header cards for over a hundred bucks?? And most of them aren't from rare toys. I couldn't believe it.
Possibly not THAT 'strange or rare', but on a more positive note . . . Stoked to be adding this to the Thrashout shelf once shipping gets resolved. Never knew it existed until the auction and it appears ClubTokyo was the only source of information (RIP) Anyone have any intel on it?
it"s a collab between Yamanaya and Gargamel, there are 5 of this little figures doen in TO colorways. http://www.gargamel.jp/item/yamanaya01.html And some others on clear vinyl. http://www.gargamel.jp/item/yamanaya02.html http://www.gargamel.jp/item/yamanaya03.html
You are not wrong! Thought it was a score, but with 4 more to track down might be just a world of pain.
Actually, you've done the most difficult part. The other ones pop up from time to time on Mandarake, Kanegon being the most sought after.
Nice acquisition Andy. While I have never been a big fan of the TO colourways on toys, it's totally a personal thing, and there are some really great toys like these Yamanaya minis and the Toygraph ones which were made as part of this series. Like JL said, these do pop up fairly regularly, so if I see one of the others (and you are interested in chasing the set) I'll let you know. Kanegon of course is great fun all on his own, too.
Also posted this in the Bemon thread, but I’d say the rarity of this one qualifies for this thread, as well. I can’t get over how perfect this Kougai is. Sample paint. I’d just described it to someone as it looking like the painter had no idea what they were doing, but knew exactly what they were doing. The way these sprays sit gives me major IKB Hedoro3 vibes. Picked up by the winner for $1,001 and change.
