Astro Boy = 38,500yen (10 parts) Mazinger Z = 41,800yen (10 parts, or 11 if you count the small window of the Pilder, +2 Scrander wings) Godzilla is evidently bulkier with a few more parts (I count 13). I'm going to estimate somewhere between 45,000-50,000yen. Shipping with insurance has been around 11,000yen for the other two. This one might be a bit more due to size/weight. I'd say expect to pay around 60,000yen in total to bring this big boy home.
Ah, that would account for the parts count - I was just seeing 7 parts, with a double pour on the head/arms/legs/tail. If that's MechaG on the inside....NUTS!!!
Yes, hiddy posted a picture of the mecha head on Instagram. I imagine all the other inner parts are also mecha parts, but he hasn’t posted images of them outside of the body yet.
Damned I didn’t even catch that! This is really great. The price will probably calm my enthusiasm quite a bit.
Price was 49,500yen, with lottery opened between 12h and 13h today (Japan time). I've read my emails at 6h07 this morning, so 13h07 Japan time...bummer...
Oh damn. Well, a missed opportunity never feels good but I'd much prefer to have this guy painted than blank. Also I saw someone describe this as 'the best desugoji ever' just now
Glad I missed it. I much rather live with that than knowing the lotto is open and I have nothing to throw at it. Lol
I am also looking forward the first painted version... but it is the same type of sale method, it"s going to be a nightmare.
For the size, complexity of engineering this toy and the number of pieces and the fact it is still made in Japan. I think it’s a very reasonable price. Considering what he could have priced it in the current climate. Where a large Godzilla by several makers now, carries a higher price tag. Due to the size it’s a toy I’m only going to try to get 1. And I’ll also wait out my attempts for painted versions.
I agree. It's hard to compare the price of their big scale series because they're an odd size in terms of larger figures. I feel it is more common to see makers go up to 60cm for jumbo size models. Medicom's JAM/JAC line (24") retail about the same price in Japan but go up to $700 or more when purchased from a U.S. retailer. Though substantially larger, I am fairly certain those are produced in China, and they're definitely not as intricate. A better comparison might be the recent "Jumbo Machinder" villains produced by SHIMA-X as they're made in Japan—much bigger still. After you take shipping charges into account they'd be roughly the same price. Garada K7 is 13 parts including the sickle.
As cool as the Mech G inside Goji is, I wouldn't be mad if a cheaper version were made without the Mecha Guts. I'd just like a really nice painted Goji, which would render the Mecha G invisible unless you start taking off heads/limbs.
re: the price discussion, Re: the price discussion, SB giant Astro Boy is the only toy in the $400+ club where I haven't felt at all like I'm paying for a brand name, maker prestige or scarcity. No bullshitting around about the gimmicks, quality, packaging, attention to detail, whatever. Quality is there for sure, but the thing is worth its weight in vinyl. So I'm willing to take the chance again on this one. @---NT--- I'd love to see a solid giant Godzilla and, looking at the design, I think SB might have learned from Astro Boy and separated out the mecha internals from the sculpt, similar to what Gargamel does for their clear guts toys. So maybe some future releases could ditch the mech internals altogether and end up cheaper. We'll have to wait for someone brave enough to take theirs apart to know for sure.
I agree with @zindabad in every point. I have the Astro with not translucent parts (awake) and it is truly fun to hold and quite heavy. I don’t even know if the skeleton is in there. It’s superb quality There’s a reason pushead does his pours from them. Quality trough and trough.
At least for the arms and legs I believe the innards are molded into the upper segments (they seem fixed in place on mine). The head is definitely two pieces. I wonder if the brain is vital in any way to the integrity of the joint and must be included. I’m digging through Instagram looking for someone who’s been willing to take theirs apart but no luck yet.
Awesome, thanks a lot! So it looks like the brain has to be incorporated. Nice to know it’s all in there even if you can’t see it.
Looks like Secretbase sent out at least one too many winning notifications this time... pretty disappointed. Oh well, I'll be anxiously looking forward to the next release.
