Just a sidebar thought. I have never seen so many random Ultraman posts as I have the last few days. And this is coming from a guy who follows a lot of vintage toy and Ultraman fans/collectors. #hxsxk Sigh.
I couldn't find this posted elsewhere, so here it is for those interested. A remastered series of original Ultraman episodes are being released as "Ultraman 4k Discovery" (announcement | trailer). There are supposed to be four feature length releases, each with four episodes selected based on a theme. They have some "glue" scenes of a theater owner who has a mysterious young woman come to see a film, and the conceit is that he picks episodes just for her. (Could have seemed a little creepy - old man and young woman alone in a theater - but I think it comes off pretty wholesome, if not pleasantly hokey.) Last night at the Kaiju Go! event in Dallas, they showed a compilation "Life" of four Ultraman 66 episodes in a 150 seat theater, and it looked fantastic! The presenter said they had finished the English subs just 72 hours before the showing. (And you could kind of tell. Some of the lines spilled off the right edge of the screen lol). I thought from the presentation that all four features will be Ultraman 66, but from the announcement it sounds like each feature might be a different series. So maybe no remaster of Gyango - Rascal from outer space, my personal favorite. The presenter guy said the English sub releases have been delayed, and might still be a year out, but I think it will be worth checking out. Edit: I had not seen the original series for a while. Forgot how much Ide is my personal MVP of the original ultraman. He's such a silly boy.
At times it feels like Ide has become the main character of the show! Blake, that all sounds fantastic. The '66 blu ray set was great, but an upgrade in quality/resolution seems like a necessity for that run. Some of the segments in that trailer look pretty good (Neronga, Jamila).
Every listing for a Dancan inevitably has paint damage, scrapes, bruises, minor cuts. US Toys, Bear Model, doesn't matter who makes it: always wrecked if it's second-hand. I don't see how this is coincidental. Is Dancan the most real kid magnet Ultra sofubi out there?
This came up on my recommended. I thought Internet Kanegon was a fun concept and I didn't end up regretting the click. Has english subtitles.
