Far right aka Meteor Dino is suppose to be a homage to Shin Godzilla 3rd form. Also Robert, this is just a suggestion but maybe change the title to only Trash Talk Toys? I kind of hesitated on whether to post the new sculpts here or create a new topic since I thought the discussion here was dedicated to Maggore.
@chimply.kaiju Ah! Perfect! Thank you for the info, Anthony! Now that it’s been said, I can loosely see it! And thank you for pointing out the title thread change. It since has been, and I’m glad there's discussion over these new sculpts! I think these are great!!!
Thanks for changing the title. Haha, even I wasn't sure what the Dino was based on when I saw it. But the box art packaging and one of the mock up image they created that spoofed a Shin Godzilla flyer made it clear what the homage was.
i agree that it seems super calculated BUT i definitely would pick up a set if the price point isnt crazy. this is a huge step up from Maggore imo. smaller scale and better detailing
@kid_miracleman Oh, wow. Yeah, if these were teased for release before the TTT toys were, I could see it. I don't follow Elegab, so I had no idea. But at the very least I can say perhaps they were more inspired by an artist with longevity. Thank you for the info, dude! I can honestly say the TTT minis are more suited for my personal sensibility, but those Elegab are pretty damn fantastic, too.
I mean, viewing these toys in a microcosm, they're not bad. Honestly I enjoyed the packaging more than the toys. But I can't view them in a microcosm. I have nothing against Garumon, but I've just noticed a trend with a couple of other artists where stylistically their previous toys were a totally different style and then they put out a Garumon tribute toy and BOOM it blows up. This coupled with the Elegab stuff just makes me kinda raise an eyebrow a bit.
@kid_miracleman Yeah, I totally get what you're sayin'! I just know Jonah is a big fan of vintage toys, and has quite the collection. So it's not lost on me at all why they'd run with the homage paints. I absolutely see where the two main points mixed together throws out a bit of a strange, "this is *too* coincidental" vibe!
I think this is a valid point but I do like this newest outing by TTT. I much prefer this Garamon tribute to Terrible Whore’s “Fuck Q” (an awful name) which comes complete with a nose I can only assume is sculpted after Michael Jackson’s.
Personally, the proportions bug me the most beside anything else - sculpting crude toys is easy, getting the proportions right apparently not so much. That "Booska tribute" is just a weird navel on feet...
Debut of Mecha Mole Tank for Atomic Peace Kaizou Day event held in Hong Kong at Vintage Vinyl Club on August 24, 2019. Two different paint releases on red vinyl also for Atomic Peace Kaizou Day.
Yep, I'll admit that seeing a pachi Cicada Man piloting a Transformer M.O.G.U.E.R.A. is surprisingly thrilling. Anyone know retail on the pretty?
The tank is truly amazing. I have been paying much more attnetion to their account since the release. Hopefully we can see overseas sales one day!
Trash Talk has had an interesting trajectory- I couldn't stand Maggore. The Atomic Peace series wasn't really my bag either but I could tell they were swiftly moving in a better direction. I think they knocked it out of the park with Mecha Mole Tank. As Robert said, Jonah is a big vintage fan and a great guy to boot from what I can gather. Looking forward to more vintage-inspired releases from the duo.
I do like the tank and packaging. Awesome vintage vibe. Then again, I am a sucker for sofubi in military vehicles
