The cost unfortunately came out higher than planned with shipping and VAT There was a wait list at the gallery, so I thought it'd be fairer for it to go to someone else who also entered the raffle.
Ah no it's a fair point! As expected I'm already regretting passing him up haha. Alas! more money for more toys!
They were sold through an Art Gallery, not to the general public. I kind of feel like TKOM made the vinyl toys as a lark but it sucks not being able to buy.
I’ll do you one even better. I traded a run painted Bemon Kougai for six Obake Dogs. Three of ‘em were one offs, too. As for TKOM doin’ this as a lark, the overt seriousness of a contract, regardless of context/content, takes the piss out of that for me. I get it, gallery setting, blah, blah, blah, but he ultimately set the prices. Not the gallery. And even still, this type of nonsense is exactly why I think the ‘fine art’ world is a joke. But then again, as always, it’s subjective and I’m of only one man’s opinion!
I couldn't pass him up in the end...luckily the gallery curator has been on holiday for a week so I managed to catch them before it was passed on. After selling a kidney and some other pieces he'll be mine next week.
