After 26 releases and lots of patience, I lucked out and scored these together for less than the cost of one Bigscale via eBay.

I got a new ollie yesterday, my first one in 3 years, so decided to take some family photos

 

Finally found the GID green to complete my little gang. Nice to be done with the hunt.
All the MS are glow except the black. i wanted a "stealth" version...being all particular and sh*t


Found the yellow! Just need to track down the last release (grey) if anyone can help.

Met Mr Cord Viper on my last trip and he looks hardAF but is a really nice guy.

Obsessed with Mad Max, even down to having a Z1300 currently being restored (a bigger version of Goose's bike in the original movie).

 

it's been a good week for toys

 

A bit of Nijiyana magic ✨

 

I just love this friggin lobster.

It immediately reminds me of a squeaky toy I had as a kid.

I remember looking at Ebirah toys on the boards and thinking, "That's just a fucking lobster." And it is, and I was wrong about how enjoyable this is.

It is just so fun to hold. There's such an effort to make this thing look and feel like a real crustacean. The segmented underside of the tail is so unnecessary but much appreciated. The legs give me an icky chill and it's just fun to run your finger along the shell.

And then there are parts of the sculpt that remind you that this was once a heap of clay on someone's desk. The way the claws look like they were just jammed on the body as an after thought, jutting out from the face. How one claw is extended to steady Ebirah's "action stance" while the other stubbily protrudes with seemingly no where to go.

I really miss that squeaky toy now.

Just wanted to say how well you put into words your appreciation of this toy. I find it pretty hard to describe why I get so excited about the plastic dollies. You managed to articulate the kinds of things I think a lot of us notice and love about our toys. Fun to read. Thanks

This was something I first saw while in Japan in 2018. Had no idea what it was called, or what it was from. The shop didn't know either. I assumed some random Tokusatsu show I'd never figure out. It was too expensive for me anyway, and I left it behind. But It stayed with me. It felt like discovering some esoteric cryptid. A Moebius drawing made into vinyl.

A few years later, it randomly pops up on instagram! And the truth was actually still pretty bizarre, just in a wildly different way. This is Gari Gari, part of a kaiju duo from a 1971 variety show called 'Machaaki Maetake Hajimaruyo' (マチャアキ・前武・始まるョ!) broadcast on Nippon, only running for one year. While primarily an educational children's show, there were 2 kaiju that somehow got incorporated into each episode (an opener? A wrap around? An ongoing gag?).

I'd categorize it as a piece of "lost media", as I don't think any copies were saved by the broadcaster, and it pre-dated the home video recorder. So, basically all that remain are the 2 figures of the kaiju themselves that Bullmark produced, and various promotional material images (showing that neither character looked much like their respective sofubi).



Also, it's nothing short of a miracle this survived its journey to me. It arrived IN A BAG. The seller was considerate enough to have removed the wings so it was more flat. But sheesh, what a heart attack I had. The vinyl is extremely thin and brittle, and that neck should have snapped in half. It only has the tiny wing cracks I was already warned bout.

The toy gods were looking out for this one.

 

Missed posting a few Lemon drops (see what I did there ), so this little collab between the talented Anti Social Sofubi, Naoya Kawakami (naoya.muga on Insta) and Koji of Cometdebris seems a worthy return to form…

that pattern is very apropos to the header card. I also love the Matte finish on the paint probably my favorite lemon so far with that green goodness and gold accents
