It’s the internet, we tell movie critics, producers, directors, and actors to STFU everyday. ;)

I like the idea of developing a scale that quantifies this specific aspect, let's call it the Acceptable Penis Rating, or ACP. We can form a review board that grants an ACP rating that the maker can display proudly on their header card, like the Comics Code Authority stamp of approval.

Nope ... that is a misconception. I don't dislike all the toys i post here, i actually like a lot of them but they're still Fugly. I bought a Baltan recently with a fugly paint job, but i love it.

Not me, If i read a negative review, i don't make shitty comments in an aggressive manner. I just ignore it, or laugh at it and shake my head. Anyone that spends time having a go at critics/actors/directors is wasting their time.

Anyway, speaking of a waste of time. Heres more fugly toys!

A lot of the stuff that ends up on this thread has totally lost sight of "first principles"...of the history of the medium. Two things that seem to be lacking consistently are:

A.) Letting the base vinyl shine. I understand there were times even during the vintage era where a piece was covered in spray, head-to-toe, but it shows a kind of restraint and mastery if a painter can let the base plastic be the primary (or at least secondary) color in the scheme.

B.) Making this a toy that a child would play with (feasibly, in some era). A big concern when the first Ultra-Q line was produced, was making sure the toys wouldn't scare away kids. They were intentionally softened and made cartoonish to add some lovability to the sculpts. A lot of these newer toys are just nightmares. They're made to be upsetting to look at.

Now of course, we could discuss the artistic merit of breaking with norms and subverting expectations, but how many thousands of times can that be done, before the novelty has lost its meaning?

theres a million toys on the market that i think are cool but maybe didnt need to be in this specific subgenre of toy. that alone makes it fugly to me

I run with this sentiment in my head a lot. Just because you could make it in soft vinyl, doesn’t mean you should’ve, or that it was even the best/appropriate medium. Some of the toys here would’ve been amazing had they been produced along the same likeness as MacFarlane toys and would’ve more than likely reached a broader base if they were marketed as such.

Yeah, some good points above. I do think the shared understanding of what 'Sofubi' means to collectors has changed. I never thought of the word as just a way to describe the plastic used, it always meant a particular type of toy to me, both vintage or current.

I remember reading something similar Mori from RxH said once. He always tries to include a kawaii factor in his toys, even when they're supposed to be scary.

This thread is great for so many reasons but the one thing I love about it is seeing how much is coming out and be made. Some of these toys have never even seen till it makes its way here and I am all for it.
Weather I like it or not is just a matter of my own opinion and some things within this thread I have found appealing and even look for, but I totally agree that a lot of what we are seeing as a boom in the makers and brands putting out vinyl probably should have been thought about a little longer before making that plunge.
As it has been said before some of these concepts would excel with a different medium and some perhaps would have just stayed on the concept board but who am I to judge. As long as the maker is doing it for them then that’s all that matters and or that’s all that should matter.
Keep posting up all these crazy monster though cuz I don’t have to look anywhere else for new stuff. A great dude once said “the cream will always rise to the top” Funny or Ugly I still wanna see it haha

At least point the only thing I like is realizing how many factories are out there producing toys. It's promising for those that create. In 20 years..those workers will hopefully get paid a wage. Curious to see how many creators will survive over time.

And the 'SLAP A HEDDY ON IT' trend is not slowing down. The Vase is really cool (not sure what its made of) and the pizza is yet another food related one (its 3D printed.)

    Wow.
Not coming here for sometime and then checking this tread again is something. Looks like professorABC and Diemouse have copycats now?
I love names like tofumonster2024. Sounds like dude knows he isn’t gonna last long.
Snail and kusatta many digits too. Really shows they aren’t ready to put more care in their brand name than in the garbage they produce. Feels consistent. I like that.

Thank you @The Moog for your work! Keeping us aging folks in the loop.

@HardDragon brought up some pretty great points and at the end of the day I would rather sofubi be where it is at today with more art and self-sustainable marketplace than 15-20 years ago even if it comes with some absolute turds that occasionally make me chuckle

That LukeSmellsGood porn set is hysterical, and those little Gary’s aren’t bad, I’d let the little green one into the collection….

I haven’t really been around but I knew this tread would never disappoint me.
