Event looked absolutely off the chain from what I've seen so far. The only thing that can compete with my jealousy is my tremendous happiness for everyone who made the trip out. Looking forward to the photos Rob!
Does anyone know what the reason for the price increase for the Headlock toy was? In the email and when people were let in it was $130 but by the time I was able to purchase it the price had increased to $140.
probably something to do with lack of change? or even how many non-rsvp folks tried buying em? idk tbh i didnt notice that price change
Yeah they didn’t have change, I was happy to pay $140. Still a super fair price. I’m sure some will end up on eBay for several hundred dollars more.
Well, after recovering from such an amazing weekend, and already missing everyone, I have finally finished up photos to hopefully vicariously live through! There were a handful of shots, whether out of focus or just badly angled, that didn’t make it. So some offerings from all tables are sadly missing. Even still, I hope it’s enough to enjoy! I don’t need to go on some diatribe about how shitty the last nearly two years have been, for a multiplicity of reasons. We’ve all missed toy shows/cons and meeting up and geekin’ out over toys and hangs. What Quang and Brandon with Creature Bazaar and co put together, along with Paul, Mel, Bwana, Mikee and Jon, was nothing short of amazing, safe and incredibly fun. So, so welcomed with open arms by collectors with the atmosphere being so warm, as is always with every Summer Slime event. The amount of hugs and laughs and widened eyes every time a new attendee arrived was such an awesome feeling. The backyard vibes were not at all lost, despite a change of venue, and it cannot ever be overstated how incredibly generous and hospitable it was for Quang to allow us entry and temporary stay at his personal home for the show. He was a fantastic host and accepted a huge undertaking, all for the sake of ensuring a great and safe show. The sofubi offerings were aplenty and phenomenal, tacos, beer and water were consumed, conversations and catching up was had, and tons of good tunes were spun on the turntables. Many in this community feel like they needed this, myself included. And we’re not wrong for it. We miss each other, we miss the artists and the toys and the camaraderie and excitement. These interactions are needed to keep things alive and fun, and most importantly growing. So INFINITE THANK YOU’S to Quang and Creature Bazaar for the hospitality and hard work! THANK YOU’S to the artists for all of their hard work and artistry! And THANK YOU to everyone that came out, gave a hug, high five, a smile, a convo, lots of photo opportunities, or even just a simple hello. I hope we all get to hang and geek out again soon!!! The next best thing is your pics, man. Thank you so much for increasing the jelly factor over here. Jeez, that blank pink sally is the stuff! So much good stuff all around And the community hangout must’ve been the best part. Dang! So cool. Every year.
Thank you Robert - nice to be able to live the event vicariously via your photos; great that so many of you got to hang out and rekindle what we’ve all be missing out on for the past 18+ months. Hats off to the artists and the community as a whole for coming together at what looks to have been a really special, grass roots, event.
Beyond stoked and grateful to have been a part of this event. It was such a positive experience! Big thanks to PAUL BWANA JON BRANDON and QUANG for being just absolute amazing people and letting Griz and I join up. Thanks to Robert for all these awesome pics and captured moments. Thank you to everyone who came out and supported. Special thanks to those that picked up mugs and toys from us we sold out and are beyond thankful for every set of eyes that came our way. Oh and thanks to Paul for not cutting me up
Is the devil man Popo a squeaky toy? Anyone can confirm? Love that sculpt, so many little details everywhere
Thanks so much, everyone. Just wanted to bring here what I can for anyone that had hungry eyes! It also gives me the chance to practice behind the lens. And @gatiio, it most certainly is a squeaker toy!!!
Thank you for all the photos Robert! It was nice having a chance to see you in person and say hello. And thanks again to all the artists and peeps who organized and made this event possible. It was great! Really appreciated the effort from all artists to have toys available for everyone (I was at the end of the line and still came back with many goodies). My in-laws with whom we stayed last w-e came to see what were those toys that brought us all the way down to LA. It was the first time I introduced this hobby to people. It was a fun experience and they had a blast too.
Couldn't have explained it better than Robert. Thanks man and thanks for your help and back-strain in fast bagging. Huge thanks to Quang and Brandon of the Creature Bazaar crew in providing a great and toxic free environment for people to meet up and reap the spoils of enjoying variety after a crap 2021. I'm still decompressing and can't seem to scrub off the joy. I think we all needed that! It's also the least we could do for everyone who continues to support me and the whole US sofubi "underground" (Because that's actually alright!)
Just published my video about the event, check it out if you'd like a tour of all the goodies that were there! It was really fun, big thanks to all the organizers and artists.
Great video. Between that and Roberts photos, someone grabbing me a few things who went, and the online drops, I virtually went! I really hope I can make it next year. Thanks for all the excellent documentation.
Summer Slime 5?!? is coming up here folks. I am so jazzed about this. Hope to see a few of you there.
If only it was on Sunday!!! I've got a show I'm in on the 30th! Closing night. Damn! I love me some summer slime!
I sure will be there! Looking forward to mingle, see some cool toys and enjoy some tacos. Saw that there is a Murakami exhibit in LA this summer too and will probably go to Disneyland. Cultural trip down south.
First summer slime im going to have to miss I'm competing in my first jiu jitsu competition the same day, so while you guys get to enjoy the hangs, ill most likely be getting choked out Hope everyone has a blast, cant wait to see photos of the offerings.
