This will definitely happen... only because once the hypebeasts get over it there will be thousands of these figures being offloaded. Think about the volume that Mori produces week by week over the years... there will be stacks to buy up at reasonable prices. I'm expecting 10000yen for adults - maybe even around 8000yen once they come flooding in to Mandarake in the next couple of years. Still a fair share over retail but cheap enough for most of us.
‘next couple of years’ . . . I like your optimism. Ima just waiting for the giant killer wasps with machine guns to show up before the year’s done!
Then there was a lot of OG that were essentially destroyed as they were stripped and repainted by opportunists (for lack of a better word IMO). Mutant Evil Devilman comes to mind as an example.
I would be surprised if the prices drop to those levels within the next couple of years. Absent a major change in the collecting world or global economy, I think it will take maybe 5 years or more. For example, look at the prices on Shinto-sans and Cyclo-magnons, which are still up in the $100-200+ range. Post-2008, these were selling for $30-100, but a few collectors started a run on them about 3-4 years back and drove prices up into the hundreds on YJA. They've dropped some since then, but still haven't come back down to be in line with other comparable RxH figures. There's not much reason for, e.g., Mandarake or other resellers, to drop their prices when there is still the possibility that someone with deep pockets will come along and pay those prices again. This is why paying those silly prices is so destructive to the collecting community- prices inflate easily and drop very slowly over time, everything remaining the same.
Personally I think 10 years is a safe bet but I might not even be collecting RxH myself then. 10 years is the great equaliser. I thought 5 years was a safe bet 2 years ago but I lost hope along the way.
I like this guy a lot. It's tough being a fair weather fan like myself but I'm so glad Mori-san survived and still doing prolific work.
Fucking hell, that's the best RxH I've seen in ages. I have a few Neko Otoko but i got them years ago, this version will be selling for considerably more on the aftermarket i predict, such are the times ... To redesign an old character into something fun, fresh and original that doesn't look forced (with a nice nod to the recent trike revival) is quite an achievement.
Might as well add.. The bike is an Ichibanboshi piece. And both pieces together makes it the collab. You can get the bike with other toys on it. I got one from him with the monkey dude.
This is fantastic! Neko Otoko is my favorite toy from RxH. It is definitely fun to see him in another form. I do hope they make more releases of this colab!
Neko Otoko and other riders. I am not incredibly jealous of my FB 'friend', and i do not envy his regular access to RxH and other great toys at all ...
This one is called "One Week" Similar motif to "Friday": He had plans for making 1 for each day. Here's "Monday": But considering how long production takes, he says he went straight to One Week and maybe he will go back and do the rest of them.
It's an homage (and a really cool one) to Cactogron, a recurring Kamen Rider villain who is an agent of Shocker's Mexican branch. Cactogron is notable for being the villain in the first episode (#14) to introduce Kamen Rider 2 (Hayato Ichimonji), after the actor Hiroshi Fujioka, who played Kamen Rider 1 (Takeshi Hongo), broke both legs doing a motorcycle stunt for the show and had to take an extended leave.
Oops, pardon my ignorance and thanks for enlightening me @ungawa222! Admittedly I know next to nothing about that show. Better get my shit together and finally watch it I guess
It's a lot of fun, and all of the first series is streaming for free on Tubi, if you have access to that. I'm sure you'll see a lot of kaijin faces that will be familiar from people's collection pics!
Whoa! I didn't know that / pick-up on that. I assumed it was a Cthulu homage. @C E, there are so many Kamen Rider references and homages in his work. It's definitely a major inspiration for most of his work.
That I have picked up on Even a Kamen Rider ignoranti such as myself can't help but notice with the market/tradition saturated with sculpts and paint-apps paying tribute to Kamen Rider, Kikaider et al. It's why I got excited for this one, naively thinking it an original character.
Name clarification for realhead. On manda it comes up as Hillary Kurikin. But what is the literal translation?
