I was really hoping this was an April fools joke on your part. I have a couple small orders from Mandarake I ordered over the last three weeks that I chose SAL shipping, and none had left their post offices. Looks like they’re going to be returned to Mandarake at some point now. This is going to be interesting/unfortunate.
the US isn’t included on that list, FYI edit- no SAL, but EMS is still good https://earth.mandarake.co.jp/help/shipping_suspensions.html
Fuck, did not get that part about the US. (And really, that's only the part that matters.) Expanded the thread title somewhat.
Mandarake also put up a notification about this, cross-post here for reference. Their chart is fairly helpful for our purposes. https://earth.mandarake.co.jp/help/shipping_suspensions.html EDIT: Sorry, did not see this posted above.
DHL is not impacted yet. Their shipping is also, usually less expensive on small packages like a toy or two. Not to mention they have much better shipment management controls. If you haven't tried DHL, I would suggest making the switch.
Big thing I personally note with DHL is it’s less expensive, for me, than EMS and I generally get it at my door in two days, as opposed to the usual four to seven. I actually just got a medium sized Baaro delivered yesterday, and shipping was only about $12.50.
Well damn, evidently DHL is different for different areas, because it is much more than SAL to the UK, and also takes longer. I am a little disappointed now with the change (which is of course out of their control), not because SAL is not offered, but because I have not been given a choice of options. Shipping on some outstanding orders jumped to 3x the normal rate now. Enquiring about it got me some questionable/rude responses from them [with Mandarake it really depends on who you happen to get answer your email]. I would welcome $12.50!!!
Phew! Thank you for the update! Just submitted a small Mandarake order (actually there are no butas this time!), and selected EMS. You guys are awesome!
So I have 3 packages, all from Japan, all from different artists, that were shipped via EMS with tracking. Every single one of them hasn't moved beyond the initial point of collection....
There's a few people on Facebook saying similar, EMS delayed a week or so for some. A Japanese girl is saying something about US parcels might be delayed longer than others because the US changed some of its policies on international postage recently (?)
I just paid for DHL from japan yesterday- its already stateside and should arrive tomorrow. EMS was delayed for me a few days last week, but still speedy.
I've had two come into the UK, via EMS, in record time. Most cargo is still flying, and some of the passenger carriers are actually using standard passenger planes (with packages on the seats and hold) to carry cargo, so that they don't have the fleet on the ground, not earning. From my understanding, most of the delays are at the distribution and receiving hubs.
I have an EMS package from Buyee that's been sitting in a post office in Hino-shi, Tokyo since March 30.
I’ve also got a package that was shipped three days ago and hasn’t moved since acceptance. So long as it doesn’t get lost, I’m totally fine with the delay, albeit anxious for the figure to arrive. I’ve never had any reason(s) to distrust EMS or DHL shipping coming out of Japan.
I’ve got an EMS which hit the U.K. in a few days (currently with customs working out how much extra they can screw me for) but also got a SAL which doesn’t appear to have moved since the 29th March. Most annoying is I also have a pair of Hedo tiki mugs coming from elsewhere in the U.K. and had tracking since the 28th of March and still no sign of it!
Bob, I’ve also found internal (UK) post a very mixed bag. I’ve had things arrive within a few working days and other take over a week, nearing two, using RMSD. No complaints because there are more important things but it is erratic.
@Mr Fox yeah definitely more important things to worry about and I don’t mind waiting as long as it takes but it’s always a little stressful as things can easily get lost in our post offices.
Well, it’s a bit of a relief to know I’m in good company; I placed an order over the weekend on Mandarake shipping EMS and it’s had no movement either. I hope it’s just a few days delay; for everyone.
I checked my orders with Manda. Anything sent by SAL since around 3/26 has not been shipped or has been returned to sender. Anything sent by EMS since around 4/1 has been accepted by the post office, but has not moved. At this point, I just have to hope that between the post office and Manda, they can sort it out over time.
