I dug it, agreed. Would leave it that way but the joint on the CKB is tall, so you have to push the Dokorah head(s) down to bend it a bit
The rest of my Splurrt comeuppance will trickle out as I edit. There’s a lot, and it takes a while. But I really had to get these Cadaver Kids in here. I chose these angles intentionally for the same/different reason between both. At Joe’s booth on Sunday he had somethin’ of an archival sale where I picked up, what I believe, is the first(*it’s the eighth, and I’m dumb ) painted run Cadaver Kid. I also grabbed the grey Five Points version Joe brought with. The first has an up - top, downward green spray, while the second has an upward pink spray from below. I felt like this angle captures both in their own ways, but I’m very excited to have grabbed the pair.
Even though this initial head sculpt was labeled as Secretoy with its debut on the Sludge Demon DX body, it has since found salvation on both Cadaver Twin and Uncle Steve bodies, both of which fall under the Splurrt category. So I felt this is where Mr. Luck should go. By sheer irony and coincidence, I came into Mr. Luck by my number being seven to be called at Joe’s lotto. This mashup is so great, and works so, so well. It makes me think of a being you’re greeted by at the gates of Hell, before granting you an eternity of pain. Sounds corny, but hey, I love to imagine these characters into existence. I’m elated Joe continues to find rightful purpose for this head, and he knocks it out of the park every time.
Fun fact, that was painted by Velocitron and remains one of the final posts of Kaiju chronicle. Anyone interested could dig up the info there, it was released at an early Dcon.
This was something I was unaware of until you’d posted said fact in a comment recently. Still pretty rad, and a great piece of Splurrt history. I’m very happy to own this Kid, even more so to have gotten it directly from you.
Amongst the myriad of great offerings Joe brought along to Five Points, Manduro and Dokorah were definitely a couple favorites. Loosely inspired by what I believe is Ghidorah and Hedorah, Splurrt’s take on a double headed, bottom heavy reptile monster, and a sludgy, melting, pile of waste, this pair could either battle each other, or just as easily team up for human supremacy. Aptly dubbed as Dokuro Pocket Monsters, what really sets these in stone for Splurrt are the skull faces donning across all three heads, and the exposed ribs/intestines of the Dokorah. The pocket size is insanely fun, both coming in at about 2” tall. It’s great to squeeze them into any visible shelf crevice possible, but also make great travel companions for photos or just to have with for posterity. As always with Joe’s paints, simplicity reigns supreme over some pretty detailed sculpts. Lots to unpack here in such small packages. I would LOVE to see these both as full size figures, either 6” or 9”. Spoiler Manduro Dokorah
Also brought in by Splurrt was the Lab Fink! A Rat Fink head, sculpted by Joe, and masterfully cast in resin by @Cubensis of Bog x Squad, atop a sofubi Lab Mice body. Simple, but effective! There’s pretty great dichotomy here between the overly smooth, chubby body, and the exaggerated, detailed texture of the head. It’d be great to see this head made into a sofubi mold, especially after Joe exclaimed these would never be made again past this initial run. Glad I was able to grab one! You’ll also notice the dead rat on the header has a pomp and a pair of flung sunglasses from the snap of the trap. Wonder who that is???
Dokorah It looks like those evil rings you could order from the backs of comic books when I was a kid. Complete with the glowing red eyes! Pretty damn cool.
I think it would be interesting with jewels in the eyes. Not sure how hard it would be to cut out the small sculpted eyes though
There are no eyes, just hollow sockets. You could pop jewels in, you'd just have to find some small enough.
i got a blank black set and with joes permission it is being customized to be a straight forward thrash out colorway. i love small toys and i love this set!
@JoeMan I’ve put some pretty damn tiny jewels on eyes for some makers before. Im pretty sure we have some at the shop that would fit, so I’ll try it out. This duo, much like Cadaver Kid and Puppoo, are just super fun to handle. Very easy to play with!
On the initial glance I thought these had ruby eyes, similar to the Black Usir DX. That would look great.
I’ve had this one re - shot and edited for a couple weeks, but Joe’s recent post of an Uncle Steve with some wild colors reminded me of it. Too bad ass not to bring back here.
Very psyched to have gotten my first Cadaver Twins! Love the paint used on along the base of the stitches and mouth and eyes. Overall I think this paint job looks terrific against the purple vinyl.
Congrats on your first Twins, Bill! Joe’s color palettes are unceasingly interesting, yet equally striking! I really do consider his approach in paint application and color choices to be the American equivalent to Target Earth, though I’m sure I’ve said that around here before. I’ve only seen purple Cadaver Kids once before, and that was NYCC 2014, where I came into my first. I sadly sold them off for a family emergency, but they’ll come up again I’m sure! It’s nice to see purple base Twins return and with a paint app that’s to be reckoned with.
I do love some purple splurrt. I have two different unpainted purple cadaver kids so I feel like purple is always on the table
So happy to add another CT to the ever growing almighty Splurrt shelf’s. This one is a beauty. The matte green and blues pop against the metallic magenta’s so nice thanks JOE you know I love a good twin! Or is it a bad twin? They have split personalities haha.
