Stunning Anthony! Love these clear painted Marine Kongs. Never found one myself, but I can't help but marvel on how beautiful they are none the less. Probably would blow a circuit if I had one in hand. Looks like at least one might be from the Popsoda run: viewtopic.php?f=17&t=42115
Chris, thanks for posting that link. I was able to identify the 2 new ones on the right end of the top and bottom are both from Popsoda. And identify 2 of the others from sales from GT. And what's even better I purchased all of these at a lot less than what any of them are charging! In case anyone is wondering, the Popsoda sales are painted with matte paint and you can feel the roughness of the paint on the figure. Plus the horns are unpainted on the very top tip of the horn. The ones from GT which I believe were actually Wonder Fest releases that they picked up are painted with matte and metallic paints and feel smooth probably sprayed with a clear gloss coat for the finish. Horns are fully painted to the top of the tip.
What is the story behind the ridiculously overpriced Yabanjin? It seems completely hype driven. Granted this is not something I would collect but is this just trying to fill the void from the other two head? It's interesting to me that this is getting so much hype when they have been producing some of the best tetsujin 28 releases out there.
Those marine kongs are effing amazing chimply. And Bryce, yes you are right. I picked a yabanjin up from one of their drops and while the sculpt is okay (lacking much character) the quality of the vinyl and the paint job were nothing to write home about and generally disappointing. The epitome of hype IMHO. Not in the same league as Bemon quality, that is for sure. I have certainly been drooling over SK's older releases as of late though. They appeal to me much more than most new toys that have been released recently.
^^ Interesting. I get that a lot people like the two headed releases but the prices seemed way off. Anyway..I think all of their t-28 are fanfuckingtastic. Inexpensive and cool as hell (and no I do not own one.) I would love to see this giant size like the M1-go T-28
Continuing on the T28 love, Robert did a write up on Shikaruna for Lulubell after his trip to Japan. In that blog post there is the most amazing, and giant, T28 sculpt I have seen in a long time. If it ever got made I'd have to make room on a shelf for a few. As for Yabanjin, I personally like it more than the 2 headed bemon. It looks more like the famous monsters painting and I like the proportions a lot more. I can see how it can be thought of as riding the popularity of the 2hb, but I think most collectors are smart enough to judge it now its own merits. As for painting, I'll agree they're not mind blowing but also not terrible. With vinyl quality I didn't notice anything bad about it. I'd actually argue the 2hb feels cheap and thin, at least with the 2 I have held before. It's all just personal preference I guess.
That T28 was massive in person. There were no particular mentions of it, and when I asked about it, Shikaruna only mentioned how much he likes it and how fun it was to sculpt. With how huge sculpts and toys have been getting lately, I'd hope that he'd want to eventually produce that version. I also saw a massive clear green Tetsujin at the Kamijo mold factory, which is also pictured in the blog. For my two cents on the Yabanjin, I'm in the same boat as David. I like the sculpt and overall proportions better, and I feel like it has more personality in it, though I will agree it's somewhat riding the coat tails of Bemon. Admittedly, it kinda irks me when people refer to that Famous Monsters illustration as the "Two Headed Bemon", but I guess that's really what it's widely known as being for collectors. I don't even know if it has an official name, to be honest. The paints on the Yabanjin aren't spectacular, but I don't think the 2HB paints are, either. I love 'em in a keeping it simple, traditional sense, but from a layman collector's standpoint they're broad strokes/coverage with rubs and painted details here and there. It works, but I can't say either of them blow me away. Bemon's two best versions in my opinion are the simplest, which is the red/black and the GID rub.
^^ Just saw the blog post. That T28 is nice. I forgot that he sculpted a few devilman. I remember when shikaruna came on the scene it was sort of big then their appeal faded. It's nice to see them keep producing toys they love.
So I've been wanting one of these newer live action versions of the T-28 for awhile. I accidentally stumbled on this glow version online and figured what the hell enter a lottery, not like i win those anymore. I also figured well I am working and will have money. I actually forgot about entering as it was a few weeks back and whenever I checked the site there was a "sold out" listing. Till this morning! I remembered they said emails would go out 18-19th and sure enough I won! Please pay invoice within 3 days.....Problem was that pay I was supposed to start getting has not arrived and will not till this Friday! WTF who would have figured I'd win and have gone 6 weeks without a paycheck? Damn it. Well thanks to a great SB member, I sold a little something this afternoon and was able to 'win' my lottery for real. GID? So nice!:
Glad to hear it worked out, Chris, as that's a great looking set. Perfect for your shelves. Care to share what you decided to let go?
Nothing you needed there tooth! I'm really partial to that color scheme myself. Might look cool next to the OG GID Heater. More pics:
hey guys, sorry if this seem out of place. I searched for Yabanjin, and I don't want to create unnecessary new thread. So i'll ask here first. Anyone knew about the double head yabanjin keshi? Saw it on instagram, but everyone been so "secretive" about it. Now I regret I'm not getting that Super7 He-Man keshis
If anyone was thinking about buying that Dorol, you won't be disappointed. An excellent combination of gid and nice rubbed paint. Wish I could have it in my collection. And to the whole thing about the yabanjin. I think it's an excellent version of that monster. The smaller dimensions and styling are bang on in my book. I couldn't help myself and bought the box set with the other two monsters. I've sent them home still boxed up. And will need to play with em a bit to get a feel for quality. But colour and dimension wise, I'm pleased. I'm also pretty stoked on the (slightly over the top) multi coloured double boxing, def feels a bit like a box set of some expensive seasonal plum, apricot and strawberry saki. Or expensive merino, alpaca and snuffleupagus business socks. A bit over the top yep, but fun! ...the ungainly sixtoy version attracting all the hype and crazy money is another story
About a week or two i got these two lovelies in the mail. The detail and size of these figures is amazing. And the smell of the vinyl reminds me of some of the old Ghost Busters toys i used to have like the purple ghost with the big eyeball that would pop out when you squeezed it. Yabajin And this guy which i had to take multiple pictures of because the detail is so insane and there is so much going on with the toys texture in general. Both toys feel very good in hand physically. These will be my first 2 pieces from the toy maker but im honestly in love with both of them.
The Only Kappa Sama That Matters Owned one the first painted version back in the day, and let it go to lie in wait for a GID version. Then the GID version came out and I wasn't into it. ...but THIS!
New Doral Cube up and available. I actually scored one!!!! Yay!!! Wasn't a total bummer of a week for drops. Only 20 available. GITD beauty!!!
Or not. I wake up this morning to an email saying my order was cancelled because I didn't have the right address on it.?????!!! Well I payed through PP so how is my address not right? Also, why could they not email me to get said address instead of just straight canceling my order??? So it's obviously sold out now so I am screwed. It's so incredibly unfair I can't even stand it. Zero for three on drops I wanted this weekend. Makes me wonder why I still even collect since every fucking thing I get comes on the secondary market. I NEVER get lucky on drops. I am soooooo overly upset I really dont have words.
There is no need to cross post your missed drop rant. Your FU post was sufficient. Things happen and patience is a big part of this hobby. These will show up elsewhere and there will be future releases. If it's something you really want, it will most likely be attainable at a same, or maybe better price in the future. You're not the first person to get upset over a missed drop, or a website snafu and you won't be the last. Go look at the toys you do have and enjoy them. There will always be more toys.
