I mean, one certainly hopes. Could be some groups of collectors are just happier spending more now. I'm noticing the aftermarket for hype dolls way up across the board in recent months.
I don’t think it’s so much comfort in spending, as it is the incessant need to be able to show off. There’s definitely some collectors with a shit ton of monies that can throw it around and not care, though. I’ve personally talked to a handful of collectors that hate the amount of monies they spend, but see no other way since lottos and shop drops are impossible to them, and they “NEED” to have it(their words). As for keeping toys in bags, that’s a mix. Some peeps keep ‘em bagged for the extra dollar on flips, some keep ‘em for historical/sentimental value. I have two Obake Dogs and the first painted Secret Base fighter still bagged and headered. And if I ever find a still bagged Kid Hunter/Skull Kun I’ll keep those alongside my displayed ones.
Yawn... these threads have been posted here ad nauseam. It has become boring. If people wanna flip, let them flip. If people wanna spend, let em' spend. Further, let's not pretend some of these toy artists haven't done it themselves, not to mention everyone on this board. Or are we to wait the customary 6 months before we put a profit on the thing. So what, let's fucking move on...
Medicom Toy Toei Retro Soft Vinyl Robocon Robodoro MIB. It's typically older heroes I see fetching for higher prices, and a few odd kaijin here and there, but even then we're talking 30,000-40,000yen. A couple of these sold late last year for under 20,000yen (one sealed) so not sure what happened here. Original link: https://page.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/u445938574 * Ended on Thursday June 24, 2021 @ 110,001yen (tax included) Spoiler: More Images
Regarding that dark blue vinyl/silver paint Mechagodzilla being sold by the guy who sold the blue Megalon:
Snow Choju from Ultraman Ace, made by Marmit. Just ended at 60000 yen Here is the link: https://page.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/v810693224 I know this is definitely not a rare one, but people are definitely crazy nowadays.
Pilot Ace Lucky Bag Red Vr. Son Goji Hedorah 5-piece Set Monster Dynamite Soft Vinyl 51 Went for: 144,000 yen
People are definitely crazy, but I'm not sure if its not rare. I've definitely seen my fair share of Marmit Ultraman Ace, but I don't recall seeing that one before. I'll just say its more rare than a lot of other sculpts in that line, in my experience anyway.
Pretty old RealxHead collaboration sculpt with Refreshment Toy. When I had the pleasure of visiting his shop, I asked him about Chaos Lady. He said that he wanted to revisit because it's utilizing the ChaosMAN body. He would want it to be on a female body, but I don't think there's any plans in the near future. 721,000 yen
Whoa, craziness. I think I bought one of the 1st release Chaos Ladies on a whim, back when they were sitting around for 10,000 yen or less. That price is bananas, but in my memory, there were not a ton of releases of that character either.
Plus it’s a Kamen Rider homage, but still, that’s insane! I believe it was a wonderfest release way back when. How does $7,000 sound for your Chaoslady?
Marmit Godzilla King Kong Event Limited Rare Went for: 130,000 yen. Crazy!!!!! We need the exploding head emoji on the board.
You have to admit the color is very nice. Good to see that classic Godzilla sofubis get as much attention as new sofubis.
Agreed, the paint is beautiful. That Marmit is probably my favorite '62 sculpt next to the more limited Bear Model, but they're fairly similar. I think the latter is just a bit more attractive when viewed from all angles. Definitely surprising to see anything other than a DesuGoji fetch for as much.
Marmit Titanosaurus released on August 7th, 2021 (so just last week) Went for: 206,000 yen. Who said that Godzilla was crazy? Auction's url: https://page.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/x1000625917 The auction was quite a war, very unusual for such figure;
It looks like that was limited to 15 pieces. Now there's another one listed with that as a starting price! spekkio_ is seemingly everywhere. If you're hoping to get a store/event-only item, that seller will have it.
You can see the whole set here: https://sofvi.tokyo/210802_mogura-h/ There were 5 figures in total (2 giant, 3 standard). Retail prices were fair even with the cost of entry. Participation Fee: 5,000yen Giant: 19,800yen Standard: 8,800yen They’re nice but far from the best looking Marmits around. The Doppler radar-esque Titanosaurus and King Caesar are my least favorite. I find the more liberally applied green paint on top of the blue lamé vinyl a little hard on the eyes. I think the subtle spray on the ‘62 and ‘64 looks much better.
I find these significantly inferior to the Marusan 450 series. Many of those release are 15-30 pieces and can be found for a couple hundred US. Top quality paint and vinyl. The paint on these Marmits looks poor. Can't believe people are paying this price for these sculpts. The glitter vinyl looks terrible with those sprays.
M1 Hipporito Seijin HMV version (which is actually the first version released). Went for: 112,000 yen. https://page.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/h1000627353 I am both very happy and very annoyed for this figure. Very happy to see that at last M1 Go got some real attention from collectors. Very annoyed as I have been looking for a MIB one for some years now and that I might have to forget about this now. Whatever, it is another beautiful figure from Yuji!
