Dinosaur Jr! i’ve been a fan of their music since 1988 and in my eyes, J Mascis can do no wrong! I also consider him one of the best guitar players of our era, he fucking shreds.
I don’t know which of these bands discography I’d take with me on a desert island, but as far as “best overall, few/no duds” releases a few come to mind: the Beatles RATM the new pornographers Led Zeppelin Neutral Milk Hotel Genesis Yes
If it's one band to take their discography with me to a deserted island and never listen to anything else, I think I'd have to go with A Tribe Called Quest. It would probably come down to a game time decision though between them and Yo La Tengo.
Best and loudest. I saw J Mascis in concert over 10 years ago and my hearing has never been the same! I just got into Yo La Tengo recently, I can't believe they weren't on my radar before.
Based on whole discographies and without thinking too much about it: The Smiths. Runners up: Aphex Twin and Susumu Yokota. Honorable mention: Black Sabbath.
In an attempt to no be redundant here’s some of mine that haven’t been said already American Nightmare I love all of it even the new stuff that’s like goth hardcore. I also enjoy the entire Khemmis catalog And CKY But the fact that Church of Misery is on here INT he first five posts is amazing. And of course Smiths and Danzig Misfits so many solid choices
Lately it’s been ERRA, but I’d also say Kasabian, Faded Paper Figures, and Dance Gavin Dance. (I’m not counting bands that only have 1 or 2 albums)
The Clash (with everything post Sandinista! being replaced with the B.A.D. back catalogue instead). My desert island. My fuckin’ prerogative!
What we have here is a necro-bump success story! Preach! Him and his, VU, and a rotating selection of kraut combos tend to round out the upper tier most of the time. HUGE for me. Nice to see their name 'spoken' in public. Helluva pair, my friend. And Hoboken being so close all those years.
