There’s a few games there I’d like to play again. I weirdly still have my GameCube, but no games. I lent them to one of my brother in laws years ago and never got them back.
damn, that's a shame. I've done the same thing with c.d's and the odd book. None of them have gone up in value like some of the gamecube games, of course.
It is what it is. I have a Hori game pad for the GameCube that seems to go for about $150 on eBay- that was surprising!
Yeah, it's often things you don't expect go up in value. I was just reading about a Panasonic version of the gamecube, called the Panasonic Q. A fusion of the cube and a dvd player. Its a big ugly shiny silver thing. An expensive piece of gamer hardware nowadays, I've never heard of it before ...
That panasonic Q is amazing. I'll never forget some friends had it while in uni, what a cool machine. I thought all game cubes would be like it. I only ever saw it in England.
Tears of the Kingdom is so much fun. The creativity in the game is insane. A killer homing robot i built, too tall and spindly? Just slapped a stabiliser on it, every time it tips over it just sits straight back up again. I've got ice emitters then cannons, then flamethrower and on top of that, laser emitter. It's funking nuts. You just slap it and off it goes. Built by me. The only problem so far, is its great on the open field, but in enclosed places the cannons blow it backwards in a hilarious manner. I think a bot with just lasers and frost/flame emitter will be better for caves and forts.
Akai Kitana (Red Sword) I recently bought an updated version of this 2010 shmup developed by the legendary Cave. It doesn't disappoint on the Switch, and it helps its a horizontal shooter, which fits the Switch screen-shape better. The cart has three versions of the game and quite a nice instruction booklet too, its a Japanese import so i was surprised the booklet was in English (translated by an app i think ). There are four different language settings in-game. I'm really starting to prefer the 'Bullet Hell' style shooters. Instead of fast enemy projectiles, its more about weaving through slower moving, dense patterns of bullets ... they're very pretty and you can really get in a zone whilst playing. Kinda hypnotising!
That looks goood! Just grabbed Vampire Survivors for the switch for some co-op madness. It also gives a very bullet hell feel especially once you get into the higher levels.
Yeah, I've heard good things about that one, and the gameplay footage looks crazy! I've been picking up more physical shmups last week or two ... Deathsmiles 1&2 Rolling Gunner / Overpower Mushihimesama (Bug Princess) Psikyo Shooting Library 1&2 The two Psikyo collections supposedly have bad 'input lag' but I haven't noticed it, or at least it's not spoiling the game-play for me. It appears a lot of shmup fans are obsessed with input lag ... I get the feeling it's a hardcore nerd thing, much like the obsession with 60 fps.
I get it because it applies a lot to fighting games at high level, but if you’re not trying to break records or win tournaments it’s not a big deal. Loved playing Mushihimesama in the arcade when I was younger. I should probably grab it again on switch.
absolutely, I'm certainly no expert, I'm just glad i can still get decent scores and have a lot of fun dodging bullets playing Zero Gunner 2, Dragon Blaze, Gunbird, Strikers 1945 etc ... even with the so-called lag. And yeah, Mushihimesama has always intrigued me, the Cave pedigree and the Insect theme, I'm excited to play that one. I just know I'm gonna love it. Like Centipede on steroids!
Have you played co-op yet? Wondering how that is. I beat the original version and had a ton of fun. It's easy to pick up and play for a little without getting overwhelmed or feeling like you need to relearn everything or remember a detailed storyline. Just go and destroy everything in your path (with your garlic cloud especially).
Bit late, considering it was released in 2021 but the Nintendo store has it for 50% off, so I downloaded Ghosts 'n Goblins Resurrection. Massive fan of the original and follow up Ghouls & Ghosts, so this is right up my alley. The reboot is excellent - a true homage to original - as painfully challenging as the og but with graphics that make getting your ass handed to you time a time again worthwhile.
Shrines are getting very difficult to find in TOTK for me at this point. Have only completed the Rito dungeon. Guess I'll do Goron next as I just got the armor to fireproof status. That should locate a couple new shrines along the way.
the switch is an expensive system to play them on, especially if you want physical carts, but fuck it. I love these games, and I love my switch. Shrines are something I save for later, I often find them, open the travel point and move on. The easiest way I found shrines was flying around on a hover bike, you spot them in out of the way places. It's also good to talk to Robbie in the research lab, he'll upgrade your Purah Pad and install the Shrine Sensor. I've recently ventured into the depths, which I was avoiding. I've been on the hunt for lightroots. The massive expanse of the underground caverns, its impressive. People that I've seen, saying it's 'boring' are missing the point. This game is a masterpiece, I keep saying it, so it's true in my mind at least.
I avoid the depths too unless necessary. They're scary. Never built a hoverbike up to this point either. Just got my battery to 3 full pods, or 6 additional slots. Figure once I get another full pod, I'll build my first flymobile and connect all the lightroots I'm missing.
Hmm, people seem rather mixed about Starfield. Sounds like it’s lacking in certain QOL aspects. Not sure if I should wait for a possible patch or not.
That's how I found the bulk of them, I'm currently finishing up the very last ones on foot. The bike I use is the side by side x2 fan version, one to the left of the control stick, one to the right. It takes practice but you just pull back for lift. I found the design a lot of people are using wasn't as easy to control. Fuse a lightbloom onto your bike too, they don't use up any battery. It's enough illumination to stop you crashing into things most of the time. It's worth finding the Zonaite armour set too, it really improves the battery life of any device you've built ...
My brother and his kid are certainly very excited about it, the reviews I've seen are mostly positive. Or should I say, the criticism isn't too harsh.
As I make my way through all the original Mario games, I went into Super Mario World with fond memories and thinking that it might be my favorite. After just completing it, I feel even more strongly that it's my favorite. The character designs are just terrific!
