Eek. As someone who once upon a time had eight piercings in their head, I hate the idea of body jewelry on sofubi.
Does this thing have a fuckin’ tongue piercing in it?! I think the overall dragon looks GREAT, but that and the tongue stud are so out of place to me.
Hot Topic is supposed to have a booth at the next FivePoints to exclusively sell this release . Edit: Such a nice sculpt tho. Have a hard time believing this is an actual release .
Almost had a fucking heart attack when I saw the initial Instagram post, which didn't specify what the release was actually going to be. I thought, too, with it being Chinese New Year (and specifically the Year of the Dog), that this might have be what I've been waiting for, but alas...
Concerning they are charging 600 with no edition stated and seem to be promoting this much more than past releases. I think there last toy prices as much was at least an edition of 50 if not more. Could potentially be paying 600 for an open order toy or an extremely high edition like 100. I know people will say who cares if you like it. Well I care.
That's an extremely good point @JoeMan - the paint app might as well come with a "factory paint" sticker slapped on it. It's got a very "cookie cutter" vibe to the whole thing. Examples like this are why a few of us are feeling jaded and even angry at the corrent sofubi scene... we love these toys because they are unique, imaginative, full of charm and hand-made. Toys like this body-pierced stumpy ass dragon are the exact opposite of that. It's priced high for profit, not because of the amount of care and investment the maker has in the character.
It is a great toy. It's a shame you couldn't abide Utsugiyo's polite request to refrain from posting photos until April 15th, so that all purchasers had the same opportunity to unbox and enjoy it without fear of spoilers.
