Don't mind if I do!
Finally braved the heat to photograph these recent lodgers.
EDIT: Changed a word!
M1Go Namegon, Yo La Tengo, Press-Pop, Presspop, Jim Woodring, Yujimade, GID
I can hear the heart beating as one...
I might play some Yo La Tengo for the snails to prevent future slimy rampages.
Still lovin' toys but thanks to manufacturers not making the kinda sh*t I dig, having to jump through hoops to buy or general pricing craziness I'm spending probably 20% of what I was a couple of years back. On the upside . . . it makes me appreciate what I already have and every new delivery way more than I used to.
Totally, i'm the same nowadays.
Lurve the RxH mini, and what's the story on the Billiken? I found an old one made of chalk stone a while ago. Its got a curious origin story, and not a lot of info on the various figures/ornaments that were made.
Yeah I've not seen a Biliken with zories before.
Secret Base Billiken I believe.
3-way collaboration between Secret Base x Theee Tides Tattoo (there first foray into the vinyl world) x ET-King (Osaka Hip-hop group). Sculpted by Betch and released in 2010 as a concert exclusive (Osaka Jo Hall). It seems like it failed miserably, or they made way too many, with most being dumped in the fabled end-of-year Secret Base (un)Lucky Bags. Like most other westerners, I sold mine on for cheap (with most of the other too-small T's and 'lifestyle' junk), but after seeing the Biliken's scattered throughout Osaka around 2014, the relevance/connection clicked and I developed an itch that finally got scratched when this guy eventually showed up for $30!
That looks great. I think the only other Billiken Sofubi are the Devil/Angel mini figures by Popsoda/Refreshment - so its nice to see this one. I had never seen it before. Love the extra details and the black rub looks great, the colorway and rub make it look like an old vintage one!
@toothaction those little Woodring creatures are great! Don't think I've seen them before, who makes em?
Its a very cool little project. The only other musical collaboration he's done i can think of is the one below. I found it in a charity shop in the kids section for 50p. I haven't heard the CD that came with the book because my player broke ages ago and i kept forgetting to convert it to Mp3. Do you know if he's done anything else with any other musicians?
PressPop! I made a little report about it for Rei over here.
The only other released project I know about was a DVD called Visions of Frank. It's a collection of 9 or 10 shorts of the titular character done by Japanese animators and soundtracked by various indie folk (including Mr. McNew from YLT). Mid aughts, I think. Nice little package that I wish I still had around the house.
Here's a clipping from the 'Tube:
Grateful for these new kids! They'll be well fed I promise
Very very nice! Please take glowie shots if possible
little things from japan mean a lot.
New in today:
The majority of my pickups lately have been of the micro - pocket size range.. Can never have too many little toys!
Not aesthetic at all, but with two roommates cooking I didn't have a lot of counter space oh, and one was a shop find on the way home, so I'm cheating a bit.
Awesome Tai! That Sunguts sofubi man is the greatest!
