Well the Bruins sure seem want to go into the NHL break on a high note. We can take any hockey trash talking for the Olympics over to this thread if anyone wants to. My biggest beef is the complete lack of practice time the players are going to have together. In the meantime, there's this: Zdeno Chara arriving in Sochi next to Canadian skater Kirsten Moore-Towers
The first period was so meh I tuned off. But what a friggin comeback! Total shame about the dismal refereeing in ot though. Made the victory much less meaningful. Still, congrats to our Canadian women, who kicked ass throughout the tournament!
Not a great game for us, but man, glad they turned it on after the first goal (nothing like waiting until the last minute though!). But man, what terrible calls, throughout the game, but especially in overtime. I wouldn't want either team to win that way in OT, but am happy for the team. Can't wait for the men's game, but I read Tavares is out permanently.
Should be an interesting game btw the US and Canadian mens teams. I'm conflicted, the US team is full of douchebags I hate as players- Kessel, Oshie, Kane, Orpik, Callahan, Kesler, Pacioretty- but can I root for Canada? Saint Patrice plays for them but I cant root for any team with that little turd Crosby. The US team looks strong though I'll give them that.
I am with you man, those are some real 'winners' there. Luckily I don't have to face that same conundrum. See, if we had put on Lucic like I wanted, it would probably push you over the top. Does it help that we also have Julien behind the bench?
Yes I love Claude Julian, and of course Bergeron. Even if a person absolutely hates the Bruins, you can't hate Bergeron. He's just a class act. I'm conflicted but will be watching, it's going to be a great game. I tell you what team you have to watch out for is the Swedes!
Looking really good so far, fast game, both teams playing really well. It looks like Price is going to be our man after all, which kind of came as a surprise to me, since I thought HC was going to give Luongo the nod, but I think it's great. He has really stepped up already, and I think is going to excel under the opportunity.
Hell yeah, I thought that was a great game! Great team effort all around. Canada was firing on all cylinders, and as good as the US was playing, we had the advantage I think in offensive play. Just kept on the pressure, and for one simple reason, Price stood on his head. Really bailed us out, and the team knew it, and were free to keep rushing the US zone. Asked and answered. Price is the man!
He is! For a 1-0 game, it was excellent! So fast and focused. Too bad the ice was so bad, the puck bounced around weirdly... I haven't seen Sweden play. Any danger there?
Well there is always a danger, they are a good team, but I think if we keep up with a physical game and have the speed we showed today it could be balanced in our favour.
I watched first two periods but then had to go to class so i missed the third. Canada just cut off every single passing lane for the US team. Every time the Americans pressed in the zone they would never really get a good look at the net with a shot. I didn't really care that much about this game but I will be rooting for the Swedes. Someone besides Canada has to win the gold for once.
I am having fun watching Patrick Kane and the Americans completely have a melt down in the bronze medal game. I hate Patrick Kane, two missed penalty shots -Revenge for Tukka!
Really happy for Teemu. I have always been a Selanne fan, since his days in the Peg, but six Olympics! Man, that is an incredible feat for anyone to claim, and to still be playing at the skill level he is, is unbelievably impressive.
Finns should have been playing for the gold. I blame Rask for saying he wasn't feeling well (although Lehtonen played really well). That should at least be silver around Teemu's neck.
I agree, they definitely deserved it (the silver). The primary difference too, is that Finland was actually happy to win the bronze. Also, like the Swiss women's team. The US, on the other hand.... It is also pretty telling how little coverage there has been given to that game now.
Thank fuck this Olympic shit is almost over and we can get back to the regular NHL season. Plus we have the spectacular trade deadline that will most likely shift a bunch of players. Feb 26th B's vs Buffalo cannot come fast enough. NHL really needs to tell the Olympic committee enough of this work stoppage every 4 years. If players are so gung ho to do it, they should be forced to insure themselves and take the loss of pay. What will I remember about these Olympics besides Kane pouting? Zetterberg, Tavares, and I'm sure more are done for the season with injuries. I'm sure it's a matter of national pride with the Canadians especially but for someone like me who could give a shit about national pride (seriously even if the US won gold I could care less and still would be saying when are the Bruins playing again?) it's just plain annoying to have a season you're really invested in- interrupted. Especially after losing half a season last year.
They really shouldn't stop playing just because of the Olympics. They should just call up some players. Sure it would suck for teams that have 3-4 players playing in the Olympics but how different is that from having 3-4 players out with injuries that puts them out for a few weeks.
Kind of look like the Swedes have given up at the moment... Not as entertaining as the CAN-USA game, but definitely fast!
