Sounds like mine, except it typically involves beer and playing Gauntlet all night long on the NES.

New format is awful. How can we face divisional rivals so little, and yet the standings within your division count for so much more? Makes no sense, and is the complete opposite of what the NHL is doing with their supposed 'opening' of the league. You can't have it both ways Bettman; plus I absolutely hate that they want to turn it into the NFL.

Only caught the end of the game. As for the views, they were horrific in Pittsburgh when I went to the alumni game, I can only imagine how bad they were there.

The snow was great, I think that's what made the first winter classic so good, if not slow and a little boring to watch.

Yeah, I can appreciate that the NHL was trying to get the biggest audience capacity for this games, but this trend of constantly trying to outdo the previous year and have bigger and bigger stadiums just doesn't work for hockey. Especially in 'The Big House,' it makes less and less sense, only hardcore fans are really going to enjoy it, and then only for the experience. They didn't even fill the field space between the ice and the stands. Silly, but then it was a success for the league, and they are all about the money and the gimmicks in the new NHL. I did like that they tried to separate the home and away sections, even though everyone was pretty much everywhere you could actually see the difference from the jerseys in wide shots of the arena. I can't find a good pic, but you get the idea:

Look at the size of that thing though! Ahaha, pretty funny to suggest anyone could really follow the game closely (other than on the viewscreens). But being there in the snow would have been fun just the same.

I'm kind of over the whole Winter Classic thing, unless the B's are playing ;) Kim went to the first one here in Buffalo and she froze her ass off, the view wasn't that great either.

Marchand just undressed Fisher with a sick deke and slapper for an OT win. The Bruins are starting to scare me with letting these shit teams back into games though.

The Stadium Series I'm interested in seeing...and not because it will be 2 CA teams, is the Ducks vs Kings. I know all too well what it is like skating on soft, wet ice. I'm on it twice a week and it is not fun. I actually sometimes go a year before sharpening my skates and I skate on a very shallow hollow (5/8 if that means anything to you guys). This rink they're going to build in Dodger Stadium is going to have some really crappy ice I'm thinking. I'm guessing they will play in the evening when it drops down to that freezing temp of the mid-50's
This Wings vs Leafs game seemed like the players were taking it easy on each other. Some of the camera shots were pretty cool, I have to say.

    - Yes, I typed this out wearing my hockey helmet cause I just installed a new-ish half-shield on it. :D

Anyone have thoughts on the Olympic rosters? I'll admit, I was kinda hoping for a bit of a shake up. Not that they didn't pick good players, but recent Team Canada performances have not been overly great, and while Hockey Canada places so much emphasis on international tournament experience, I am still tempted to build a team based on overall skill and playing. I think it would have been interesting see the team bolstered by size with someone like Lucic, but not surprised they went with the same typical players. I cannot believe Stevie Y gave St. Louis the cold shoulder yet again though, especially being GM of the Lightning. Oh well, very excited for the games to start! They had better get some practice in together before the Olympics (for once); it makes so much of a difference and has clearly been lacking in the past.

Even though I thought the 2010 Olympic hockey tournament was exciting to watch, especially that US vs Norway game, I'm not really down for the complete interruption of the NHL season. Pisses me off that we have a two week lull. Messes up the whole trade deadline etc etc. I really wish it was just AHL or Juniors playing. These are professional athletes and should not be playing, who cares if they are the best. I'm definitely not patriotic at all so I could care less. I'm just looking forward to the Bruins west coast trip starting tonight vs the Ducks, then LA ,then SJ. I hope they kick the living bejesus out of Chicago in 12 days. I had that date marked on my calendar since the schedule came out.

Here's a nice gif of Hjalmarsson shitting his pants as Lucic forechecks:

Stevie Y probably is resting ol' St Louis for the playoff push. He's a smart GM ;)

Well, I can understand what you are saying, and I completely agree as to amateur aspect of it, but I do love to see the best players of anything face off against each other. If anyone is to blame for this though it is the US and the Dream Team - just sayin'. Haha, that is a great image though.

I am still shifting in my seat over this team. There is no question Canada has a depth of players, and some will always be left out - we could easily field a B and C team that would have a good shot in the tournament I am sure - but some of the obvious omissions (in addition to the guys I mentioned, Seabrook, Staal, Thornton) would be such better pics over some of the guys they left on (e.g. Nash(?!), Hamhuis, Carter, Vlasic). It is nothing against these guys, they're great hockey players, I really just think we are missing the boat by not going for every possible best player on the squad we can. The States, and maybe some other countries aren't all that bothered by it, but it is point of national pride for us. The same old formula they are using has not been working - we did just squeak into that gold in Vancouver, as much as I am proud of our guys. And before that, well I am sure you can all remember. This is certainly not the glory team of past olympics, and especially as the competition is that much fiercer this year. Make no mistake Team Canada, you should not take this for granted, there is going to be some stiff teams out there. I hope they can find their mojo and get into it. Showing up is just not enough, when there are other young talented squads hungry for the medals.

A few days ago, I realized just how awful the new Sabres jersey is...

Wow, that is a terrible jersey, and coming from a league that has sure known some real stinkers, that is saying something. The two colours are awful like that, and I also really hate the neck. That Buffalo jersey also reminds me of something else that is irking me a lot lately. I saw this one in a game the other night, and honestly, took me a minute to recognise who was even playing. It is not the worst I have seen, but it really peeves me when teams, especially professional teams, have to write their name on their jersey. As part of the team logo, I can forgive it, but elsewise it comes off as amateur and generally just looks atrocious. Come on, you should know which team it is by their logo alone, and at least as fans I don't see the point behind it. But more and more NHL 'logos' are going this route. Idiotic. And seriously, it is not like there is a dearth of talented designers out there; hell, people on this board could do way better work. Ohhhhh, that is Buffalo. Good thing it is written there in block text above the logo, else I might have been very confused whom I was watching. I bet management is a big fan of comic sans too.

All professional sports teams should be forced to revert to jerseys from the 70's and 80's. Classic is always the best way to go. Improvement is rarely achieved. It's all this stupid merchandising that ruins jerseys in the name of $$$. Those Buffalo jerseys are fucking awful, but at least they reverted back to their original logo instead of that awful banana slug or big bison head.

Here's my wish for the NHL:

    1) Ducks go with their third jersey permanently That orange works with black.
    2) Dallas needs to change their jersey again to look exactly like the Northstar's uniform but with a D instead of N. Bring back the all green! They made a step in the right direction getting rid of those fucking awful 'Dallas' jerseys.
    3) Calgary reverts back to the classic all red with white C logo.
    4) Kings lose that crap new logo's and revert back to all purple or all yellow uniforms from the 70's. Gretzky era black jersey can be the third jersey.
    5) Winnipeg Jets lose the new uniforms and just go back to the old 80's/90's Jets uniforms!
    6) Buffalo keeps the regular uniforms but go lighter on the blue like it was in the 80's/90's.
    7) Penguins go back to the 80's uniforms with more yellow. Fuck that gold shit.
8 ) Same with the Capitals. Go back to the Hunter uniform days.
    9) Finally Boston needs to bring back the real scary bear shoulder patch from the 70's -90's. Not the really old cub like bear. Other than that their uniforms are perfection!

I see nothing wrong with any of those wishes. If only the teams also had that kind of sense though. Sad part is, I think we reflect the majority of fan opinions. I don't think anyone wants to see modern takes or stylised versions of team logos, especially for teams that have been around for decades - stick with the history. Trying to chase a "new fan base" which doesn't even exist is like a dog chasing its tail. And anyone who is new to the game or a team, if they are a real fan, will appreciate it for the history, and get used to an older logo just as much as a new one.

Lucky that all the Sharks jerseys have been decent so far. Some of those jerseys that came out in the 90's makes the old Canucks "V" jersey look great. I feel bad for the minor leagues cause they will sometimes wear some of the worst jerseys ever. Don't search for any...just trust me. They will hurt.

How about that brawl in Vancouver? Did everyone see the feed of him in the hallway going after the Calgary coach? Fucking Tortorella needs meds I swear. I'm all for fighting in hockey but he's such a whiny little girl.

Oh man, say what you want about Brad Marchand he just undressed the entire Kings team with a shorthanded goal. Seriously 4 guys and a goalie standing there looking pretty dumbfounded! Check the highlight. Geez he can stick handle!

    Looks like pick-up hockey
I just saw some of that footage of Torts in the hallway. While I do think he's a bit...ummm...unbalanced, his decision to go with his brawlers at the start was the right thing to do. He should have left it at that but being the guy that he is, he just made it more entertaining for the rest of us. Everyone will remember that night for that reason. Only Sharks and Lightning fans will remember that it was the night that 2 natural hat-tricks were scored in the same game...and Lightning fans will remember it as the day St. Louis got 4 goals and still lost :D. Pavs is on a roll!

Can John Scott do this? Pundits (and frankly whiny journalists who are pussies and have never been in a fight in their life- I'm looking at anyone who writes for Yahoo NHL) who want fighting out of hockey were quick to call Thornton a thug, but really can most enforcers in the NHL do this? Nope:

Ehhhhh and we have Habs vs Bruins tomorrow night! I'm in class till 7:15 I might duck out early, Chem 2 be damned!

what the hell...sharks 0 - oilers 2 and Scrivens stops 59 shots. all the people reporting on the game kept saying how Pavs had 0 shots on goal. let's talk about how everyone else had a shot on goal and none of it went in...

How awesome is NHL coverage in the West Coast? It isn't. The one day NBCSN doesn't show hockey is the day the Habs and Bruins are playing. I really don't ask for a lot in my hockey coverage but c'mon...

Great game if you're a Habs fan, I guess my team only shows up for normal games- but never for the big game (i.e. Chicago, Montreal) and Rask has become a fucking sive. Come on B's the Habs are a bunch of wussies, make them pay physically for even possessing the puck for a millisecond!

There's a few Sharks fans that are starting to see this correlation between Havlat playing and the team losing. Hey Sharks, thanks for making the 2 teams at the bottom of the conference look like championship teams. This is also the time of the year when the Sharks are really sucking, and no one can figure out why.

Wish I could have seen the game too. Online barely works for me, and I have to agree, trying to watch games on the west is simply atrocious. I have so many beefs with the non-coverage we have to deal with, and especially in Canada, I am really disappointed. I can only imagine what is coming next season with the Rogers package. TSN is locking up all of their coverage into regional only, which means good luck catching any hockey game if you aren't paying for a premium package and don't happen to live in the immediate area of your favourite team. Talk about mismanaging a league and not doing the right things to actually grow the fanbase. A pity there are no other professional sports leagues the NHL could use as a model....oh wait....

Great. Now his completely bonehead and unnecessary play has cost us the extra point. Probably could have even earned Price a shutout if it hadn't dragged on in this fashion. He is lucky they even got redeemed to earn the overtime. Everyone makes mistakes, but it is too often and too needless with PK's play.
