I have a pretty nice life. I get to do pretty much whatever I want, whenever I want. In a perfect world I would get tattooed once every other week. I got this Kappa based on @michael 's artwork last month. He just kinda crash lands in the back of my knee ditch. I liked it so much I decided to go out and immediately get another tattoo based on Michael's work. The end result is this Slimebat. I'm super happy with both. Spoiler Also, here is a pic of my gross mouth cuz life is serious and stuff.
these tattoo themes are some of my favorite! the balance between “serious” tattoos and tattoos that just make you feel good is one that i hope everyone finds in there tattoo collecting career. ive been tattooing for about 11yrs now and although i consider myself a novice in my craft i always try to tell people to lighten up a little bit. the past few years around dcon time i have the absolute pleasure of tattooing con attendees and they sometimes have me do toy related tattoos and thats just the coolest thing ever!
I forgot to post this. My friend Horizaru who I put that Baltan on visited in October and I got my Baltan tattoo from him in trade... Baltan Seijin Laugh by Doug Hardy, on Flickr
I know this is out of left field... but anyone got Tattoo's from Guf? I'm thinking about stuff with him
I got this one today, not as cool as ribboncontroller's but still! Also got these two a little over a year ago. Spoiler: tats
Not at all toy related, but still a fun one for me. My Tio was, and still is, obsessed with Betty Boop. Snow White and Hell’s Bells were my favorites that he’d watch whenever I stayed over, but Koko the Clown/Ghost has always been my favorite. Not to mention the Calloway version of St. James Infirmary Blues being top notch. First tattoo in five years, since the Converge tattoo I got on my 27th birthday.
Yeah - Nami is great! I'm planning on getting a peony on my other calf from him next time I go to Japan.
Done by our own @MoonspellxRites, and obviously in homage to the great @JoeMan. Long winded, overly sentimental explanation in the spoiler: Spoiler My Dad and me always had an average father/son relationship, close, but nothin’ extremely bonding. Ever since I got into collecting he’s always poked fun at it, jokingly of course, but never really said much else. That is until I showed him works from Splurrt. My Dad embraced all the cool, gross, goofy shit my Mom hated that I liked; Madballs, Tales From the Crypt, My Pet Monster, Garbage Pail Kids, etc., but also introduced me to staples in my life, such as Batman, Harrayhausen movies, Godzilla, Ultraman. He was really stoked to show me the Cyclops from Seventh Voyage of Sinbad, and that’s one of my favorite moments he and I shared. So when Joe sculpted and released the Cinema Monster, inspired by the Cyclops, it instantly resonated with me. Not just because it’s masterfully sculpted and effectively/pleasingly painted, but because it hits *just* the right spot of nostalgia for me also. I showed my Dad a bunch of Joe’s toys and what they’re inspired by, particularly the Cinema Monster, and he slowly started to pick ones he liked, or ones that made him laugh. Gradually he started asking me about my work with Lulubell, why I collect, if I got anything new. During my first trip to Japan in 2015 he told me he was proud of me for the first time in my life, and it was because he knew I’d found something I’m passionate about and love, and he was happy for me. Since then, we’ve grown so much closer than we already were, and I feel like a huge part of that is due to the connection we both established through what we enjoy about Splurrt/Secretoy. I feel like Joe’s toys inadvertently bridged an emotional gap between my Dad and me, and we’ve only grown closer in multiple aspects since. Once again, I know collecting might seem stupid, childish, whatever. But sometimes it can be something bigger for some of us, and in this case, it’s way bigger for me. So thank you, Joe, for just bein’ you and creating what you love, that I happen to love, that has become something more for me than just toys on a shelf. I will be undoubtedly, now and forever, take the Secretoy to the grave.
I love your new tattoo @xSuicide Squadx It turned out amazing. @MoonspellxRites did a couple of tattoos for me last November and they turned out great. Thank you for sharing your story as well. I had a very strained relationship with my father up until my mid twenties. We never saw eye to eye on anything except for a few movies. The one thing we did both appreciate was art. He was an amazing portrait artist. When I started collecting art toys and sofubi he really embraced my new hobby. He loved seeing the new pictures of my latest score or when I would visit I would bring a piece or two. It really is amazing what art can do. I am happy you got to bridge that gap with your father. Cherish it! I unfortunately lost my father last year to ALS and everytime I get something new I wish I could share it with him. It's really awesome of you to open up to us and share your story. Here are my $wagger$.
@aarnfnchr That’s so awesome, dude. I definitely feel like collecting does so much for so many people, even if they don’t express it, and that’s become such a hugely favorite part of it for me. I do express my condolences for your loss, and while it’s saddening that you can no longer physically share new scores with him, you certainly can celebrate new scores with the memories of past sharings. That’s somethin’ to carry forever! Lovin’ those Ollie/Berserker tattoos, as well. What a great balance to have per arm. I’m definitely goin’ back to Manny for some PK and Secret Base lovin’ on the skin at some point!
By our own residential toytooer, @MoonspellxRites. Couldn’t possibly be any happier with the experience and the final tattoos.
