A new maker apparently from china arrives on the scene and it is very promising. His first toy "SENJIN MASK 1st" (25 pieces) has just been sold by lottery. I find the sculpt and the painting really successful. View this post on Instagram
Man, something about the mirrored 3-D sculpting just bugs me. I’m not bothered as much by the body or head but it’s because both hands, the fingers are in the exact same position in this unnatural finger curl. I wish they would have made one hand a fist or even just changed the finger positioning on one.
Are the aurora style inners just some sort of crinkled tissue paper or is it something specific / special to sofubi? I really like this overall look.
These have got pretty damn cool in the last year--I very much enjoyed the designs but couldn't make space for a standard size sofvi. Now there's a mini series, recently complete with wrestling ring! Only two releases in the smaller scale so far, and quite pricey I think. But nice to have 1-2 of. Removable masks, as with the large size. Size is reported at about 5" tall, but I will post and compare when mine lands. The tiger mask especially stands out to me, as it's quite different in style to the larger releases, which all have large bug eyes and horns. I believe that released in August. Most recent release is the "King of Oni" mini with wrestling ring, below.
I am on the hunt for the Tiger guy, but I did win the lotto for the ring and devil dude! As a lover of wrestling growing up, I adore these. They sent me down a dangerous Tiger Mask rabbit hole too, h!
