Re: Stoner/Doom Do you know of any place streaming some of their music? After a bit of searching I finally found this: http://pesanta.bigcartel.com/product/he ... mited-dolp But I generally don't buy music without first knowing what I'm getting. And I'm not finding a whole lot of info. Though it appears they may be from Salem, OR? (Searching "Hell II" didn't narrow down the search much! ) Edit: Nevermind - I'm finally finding some songs.
Re: Stoner/Doom can we get some links? I'm having a very hard time finding anything with that name. edit: found some! here's one... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O50dEnqZ-RI why the fuck am I just finding out about this band??! thanks for the tip the doom scene must be soo great in portland. atleast after like 8 years of not seeing them again, I get to see YOB for the second time in one year after the show in NY this month
Re: Stoner/Doom This one definitely took a bit more advanced searching than usual, huh? Can't believe I haven't heard of these guys, as they're right in my backyard! And I went to school in Salem - granted it was well before they put out their first album.
Re: Stoner/Doom found the Hell II cassette and vinyl here too. http://www.eternalwarfare.org/?page=shop I dont collect or listen to vinyl but I'm about to buy it for the digital download. unless someone knows where to download it maybe??
Re: Stoner/Doom At the risk of sounding like a vinyl snob, (too late) I gotta say that all this loud sludgy stuff sounds better on vinyl - something to do with the low end or something. Earth or Sunn 0)) on CD/mp3 just does not compare with blasting it on vinyl.
Re: Stoner/Doom ^^believe me dude, I'd love to be listening to this stuff on vinyl. but can a nice setup be achieved at a reasonable price? I dont need another expensive vinyl addiction
Re: Stoner/Doom I just bought a new turntable (to replace the Technics I've had since 1984!) and cartridge for about 300 bucks. still using my at-least 10 year old receiver and garage sale speakers. You don't have to spend crazy audiophile money to have a decent setup.
Re: Stoner/Doom Especially for listening to this sort of music you don't need an audiophile set-up - garage sale equipment would do it just fine. In regards to the sound quality, typically I'd agree with you COOP. But I really dislike Southern Lord's pressings. They sound crummy, and not in a good way. They produce a lot of unnecessary woofer motion. It just seems like they purposefully degrade the original source recording prior to creating the record molds. I'll still occasionally buy their releases just because I'm a sucker for their beautiful packaging, and I do listen to the LPs from time to time, but I'm always a bit disappointed in them.
Re: Stoner/Doom from what i can tell yes. i got a package today but it was just the sleep hoodie i ordered. I agree I have my dads old hand me down from the early 80's jvc amp and speakers hooked up.. 4 12's its loud. perfect for doom or shaking pictures off the walls. i like the smell of the amp when its been on for an hour
Re: Stoner/Doom I agree heavy/sludgy music is best on vinyl. It gives it that sizzle and punch that can't be reproduced with any amount of technology. secondhand shops (goodwill, salvation army) are a great place to find 60-70's stereo equipment for cheap. It's a gamble on the working condition, but the payoff for $5-$10 is worth it.
Re: Stoner/Doom Glad you guys dig HELL! I, too, noticed how difficult it was to search them, haha. I'm not even sure how I found out about them, probably some label's mail order site -- The afore-linked Eternal Warfare and Pesanta both put out and distros tons of great releases. Vinyl > all.
Re: Stoner/Doom Wow.. so glad this band was mentioned, because it would be sad if I went through life without loving HELL. Sold out in my size.. WHYYYYYYYYY http://pesanta.bigcartel.com/product/hell-tour-shirts
Re: Stoner/Doom It's the best venue I've been to in a long time. Nice and big with good sound. There's also a full bar in the front with lots of good beer for skipping bands you don't want to see.
Re: Stoner/Doom New diSEMBOWELMENT project! (Inverloch was a track out of Trial of the bow's Ornamentation ep. one of my favorite project ever) Dusk / Subside is beyond all expectations.
Re: Stoner/Doom Did anyone else order the Sleep Dopesmoker vinyl, cd, shirt, poster deal from southern lord? I got the cd in the mail but not the shirt or the poster. I know the vinyl will ship in June. Seems kinda weird way to ship the orders I would have guessed it would come as one package. I did order a hoodie and that came a week after I ordered it and a week later I got the cd with a melvins promo cd as well. I wonder if both the cd's they sent where like when you get random stuff for ordering something(the hoodie). I dunno anyone else get their stuff yet? I emailed them a week ago and have not heard anything.
Re: Stoner/Doom I just checked these guys out this morning. Pretty good so far. http://icedragon.bandcamp.com/album/tome-of-the-future-ancients
Re: Stoner/Doom Noticed this in a Southernlord email **High On Fire-The Art of Self Defense" (reissue-remaster w/ bonus tracks!) I fucking love this album, 10,000 Years is one of my most played songs. I have the Tee Pee release but i'll no doubt be double dipping when this hits
Re: Stoner/Doom Anyone have a copy of the demo that came out before the Man's Ruin release? I got the demo at one of the early shows and I lost my copy. So sad.
Re: Stoner/Doom http://thesludgelord.blogspot.com/ havent seen this site mentioned here but it's my favorite site now. with links to bandcamps and whatever other sites the bands have this site is a really great reference and a must have favorites link for any doom head.
Re: Stoner/Doom so wednesdays show at bellhouse was fuckin amazing. Cough was so sick live (first time I saw them live) heavy as shit and the vocals were even better than on their albums! YOB played a 7 song set my chest could hardly take anymore weight by the end. They played a wide range of songs from a few albums and werent afraid to play a couple 20 minute tracks. the bellhouse is one of the best venues I've been to. great beer, lots of space, great sound.
Re: Stoner/Doom YOB and Cough together sounds like a very nice show! I saw Cough at the Skate Park of Tampa. They hold shows behind it in a space called Transitions Art Gallery. I was right in front without any ear protection (like an idiot, as per usual) and I was feeling the effects of that decision for at least three days. I had to skip out on seeing them the first time they came through because I was sick (oh, the irony). While on YOB -- Anyone like Middian? No mention of them in this thread, but that shit is phenomenal.
Re: Stoner/Doom Exclusive new Windhand song for a Rue Morgue magazine compilation. Stellar stuff, just like their album. <a class=\"postlink\" href=\"http://www.rue-morgue.com/extras/hymns-from-the-house-of-horror\" onclick=\"window.open(this.href);return false;\">http://www.rue-morgue.com/extras/hymns- ... -of-horror</a>
