Both my mini and ゴデス4期 are still in Japan. The fourth version has been sitting for just over a month now. Hoping somethin’ turns around and it doesn’t get sent back to Lenny - San!
my green minigodesu was finally delivered yesterday which is weird because i didnt see anything about them allowing packages to the US yet.
It seems that anything that was already sitting in a handling office in Japan before the suspensions were put in place finally made its way onto an airplane.
By far my favorite Godesu to date, in homage to the great Hawaiian paint Gomora. Having the addition of the tower omake was a very welcome change for the release from the standard Godesu ball. Spoiler “Your makeup is terrible...”
This new guy is pretty cool, but I prefer the texture in the Godesu. I feel like this one is a little plain, but maybe in hand it'll come to life?
The Godesu is an amalgamation of multiple, classic kaiju influences put into one, incredible design. It’s like the Voltron of kaiju. With this Gigara I feel like Spectrum Lab went fully original and didn’t necessarily have any immediate influence or aesthetic in mind, other than “this is just kaiju”. He kept a nice consistency in the hands and feet, but this overall has a much more Yonezawa/Miura Toy feel for me. The fin running down the spine also tells me ferocity; attacking. Like Spinosaurus.
I'm with you but would add that I see a lot of Miura Space Kaiju #2 (Tetran) and #3 (name?) in there, enough that I wouldn't be surprised if they were direct influences. At least the head feels like a fusion of those two to me. The body stands out for its regular, angular shapes which are of course far from the straight triangles of the Tetran, but I figure it's rare enough to see those hard lines on a kaiju body that the nod is there. The hands put me so much in mind of Gargamel's new Tetran that I have to wonder. Quite possibly many other influences that I'm missing of course. Pretty sure I've seen those exact angular belly fins before, but I don't remember well. Last thing I'd highlight is the wrinkling on the arms and legs--to me they nod a little to the triangular motif, but I think that's a reach less ambiguously, they give me that "man in a suit" vibe I got from Godesu, but even stronger. Anyway great toy, fingers crossed, etc etc.
@zindabad Number 3 is just referenced as Space Kaiju/Monster everywhere I’ve seen. I do sense a very loose tad of Tetran in the face, specifically the tusks, now that you mentioned it, though I’m more inclined to say Daikyo’s Ceratosaurus. Maybe even a bit of Space Kaiju 3 in the eyes. But the hands only remind me of the Godesu, as do the feet. The back is reminiscent of Yonezawa’s Dabura to my eyes, just not the distinct fin part(which I also find to be Ceratosaurus - esque). And the belly immediately brings Red King to mind. The more I look at it the more I’m also pickin’ up on lots I didn’t notice right away, which I’m sure I’ll do even more if I have the chance to hold it. Lots more pachi elements here than Toho/Tsuburaya.
