I've written off most of the recent adult designs, and aliman especially. If I have a good shot at that Alien I'll jump on it, but given that I'm not in a position to pay top dollar for it (and I wouldn't be able to enjoy the toy if I did that anyway), I'm not holding my breath. That said, searching hard can pay off. I hope you find what you're looking for!
Same, I just can't justify the 1k price tag. A flight out to Tokyo would probably be cheaper ! Hopefully Mori brings some to Dcon this year, since that's probably the best chance I have for getting one. I do wish he does more international lottery, some chance is better than no chance I suppose
I advise strongly against paying flipper prices (on anything). Definitely hold out for DCON or various raffles. I'm always jealous of the local regulars who get to go buy weekly!
Same, I wish I knew about Real Head when I visited Tokyo last year. ( or Sofubi in general ) Being late in the sofubi game, everything is new to me. The process of trying to get a figure, or meeting other fellow collectors is part of the fun. Looking forward to Dcon !
If only RxH was still doing releases through Medicom... maybe one day. Still waiting for a Chaos Bearbrick
Ive resorted to checking yahoo japan, ebay, lottery sales, anything and everything that sells sofubi. ( also sales threads on here : D ) Except for the super high flipper prices on the latest release, sometimes a good deal can be had. I've given up on the idea of getting something at retail, and I have no problem paying a little extra, but charging $600 for a alien man that retailed at $60 is a bit steep. Given the same token Id be ok with lets say 200 to 300 ish for the same figure. I have better luck getting Supreme than RxH sofubi lol
I used to slowly collect 1 sculpt each, waiting for a colourway that i like and i regretted this because i missed out on so many sculpts, lol. Pricing of RXH now is really insane so i guess i would just sit back and enjoy what i have.
I have two adult sculpts. Used to have more, but putting myself through grad school meant things would have to go to pay for units. Now I have two adults. I'd like more, but I'm also happy with what I have. And I refuse to pay stupid prices for them.
There are many things that suck about not living in Japan. RxH is one of them. I recommend visiting Japanese blogs, and then having a little cry . . . .
adding these to my RxH pic collection XD those Alien heads alone on the resell market can probably pay for a couple of flights to Tokyo
I got it!! I've had other toys returned because my mailman didn't leave a tag for me and thought that's what happened again with this one. Went into PO with a tag for ANOTHER toy and when she tried to scan it, she says "this is weird - the numbers don't match..." - because it was my Atom A! It'd been sitting back there for almost a month and a half, totally unknown to me. So YAY for that sweet Post Office lady and fuck you to my deadbeat mailman, too lazy to fill out a slip (again). Totally worth the wait!!
Even though RxH goes to D-Con, their lines are insane. Possibly 60% occupied by flippers. We have to make the hard choices on who to go to during D-Con and Nate and I for the last three years it has been NOPE at RxH. We go after the shenanigans to see what's left. I do miss the days when I could just walk up to the booth and take my time but those days are gone. I'm happy for their success but I'm not about to go head to head with new money. Nate and I enjoy finding the older RxH deals. They are around if you look hard enough and are patient.
Recently I picked up a gold #6 head (not sure what the correct term here is - is there an RxH glossary i can refer to?) recently for around 175 USD, which I find a bit pricey. I'm usually comfortable with up to a 200% markup from retail price. If ebay, M-world and YJA's prices are so insane, are you guys still picking up RxH toys? To each of you, what is an "acceptable" price to purchase them? By acceptable I mean a price that does not fuel flippers while making you feel financially comfortable. I think flipping is caused by the few individuals that have the money to shell out thousands for one toy, because they don't know how to get it, or it's a special release, etc. The rest of the people become flippers by listing their price close to the sale price from above. They are able to "justify" their listing price with historical transaction records, and if they sell for much less than the initial outrageous sale price they see themselves as "chums" or "taking a loss" which is ridiculous.
To be honest with you, i stopped RXH after M pushed up the prices to those insane levels. A lot of the sofubi are all going sky high thanks to these blokes and i am also getting priced out. So the only way to continue collecting things that i love, is to just cut all other stuffs and only buy / focus on core collection or those I cannot resist. RXH is sadly, one of those that i am giving up, seeing that Mori really have not much interest to sell outside of JP.
Being a new collector myself not living in Japan, I have no choice but to resort to ebay, yahoo japan, mandrake etc etc. Since its basically impossible to get any of the new designs at retail, or even 2x retail, I have to pick the design I really want, and either bite the bullet, or just save up and hope they don't sell out. Personally Id be ok paying around the same $175 ~$250 for the adult figures. I can't see myself paying 1k for a alienmen, as much as I want one. It be nice if there was a way to buy directly from Mori overseas, as I would much rather give him the money instead of the flippers. I feel like with the whole flipping game, it'll last as long as there's people paying for them. I'm constantly seeing the same post of the rainbow dyed alien man from the Australia cafe event thats been sitting at around 2k. I suppose the rainbow dyes pieces would become a grail item for me, but damn 2k I can fly to Japan and wait outside Mori's shop lol. On a side note, I do enjoy the process of hunting down the pieces I want at a good price. Part of the sofubi collecting process !
You guys are complaining about flippers yet you're still enabling them? Stop overpaying for these figures and prices will eventually crash back towards retail. Reminds me of how the guy that ran the RxH cafe show and his gang disappeared after that event, flew overseas and blocked pretty much every Australian sofubi collector from his instagram.
You guys are complaining about flippers yet you're still enabling them? Stop overpaying for these figures and prices will eventually crash back towards retail. LOL I guess you have a point, but I had no way of getting any figures at retail. Guess all Im saying is my limit of flipper price is $xxx
I'm not sure what you mean by "gold #6 head". There is the numbering standard set by the Super7 Mook, which would be MH-XX.
I guess it'll be MH-06 then. It's got the kanji character "six" on the back of its head From what I've gathered from chatting with local collectors, it seems even a trip to Japan may not guarantee a RxH toy. I'm currently residing in China for work and Mori-san has not attended BTS, STS, or SSF, so I don't have a lotta options haha...
Just focus on other toy lines till the hype collapses, at least that's my strategy Some good pickups while everyone else chases the latest shiny object
Is this one of the adult figures? The Chaos Man Six figure has the character for 'six' on the back of its head. I thought you meant Mutant Head by 'head', but it sounds like you have something different.
Yup that's the one! Chaos Man Six! I'd attach an image but I'm having a hard time accessing my imgur account over here @_______@
