I'm only one episode in, but the first one was fun, although it ends abruptly... If you like GTD, you'll like the first one at least. Previews for the others look great. If anything there should be some cool practical and special effects.
I'm now 4 episodes into GDT Cabinet of curiosities. Still really fun / good so far, and I particularly liked the 4th one. Got a couple to go, but this would be a solid yearly installment to look forward to if the quality keeps up.
Last of Us (2023) HBO property based on the video game (that I haven't played) First 30 minutes or so had me, but then I lost interest for some reason. Maybe I'm too Walking Deaded out, just seemed like more cosplay to me. I'm sure folks probably love it, 9.4 on IMDB. Guess I'm more of a Succession or White Lotus type.
In terms of horror, 30 coins on hbo was pretty good. Though episode 1 was definitely the best and had a nice creep factor and some monsterism the rest of the series failed to replicate though there were a few moments. Pretty entertaining none the less and played just as much a telemundo soap as demon plagued horror series. The finale did fall flat and had some downright bad visual effects. But hopefully season 2 comes back as strongly as season 1 began. I haven’t seen much posted about this show but assume because it’s Spanish with English subtitles the general English speaking population probably doesn’t give it a chance.
loved the episode from the Mandy guy. Was so visually awesome and the ending was nuts. Plus basements in basements is a favorite of mine. I've been obsessed w/ Terrifier 1&2 since I watched them a couple months ago and rewatched both soon after seeing them. I actually think clowns are super lame, but damn Art is fuckin cool. The vibes he gives off just rules. I find myself saying "ughh wtf!" and feeling so much tension the whole movie. Some of the gore is absolutely too disgusting (mainly pt.2 bedroom scene) but it's only a small portion of the movie and its all practical effects which you can't beat. The way Art acts while murdering people sometimes is just funny and super scary at the same time. He's fucked up as hell!! Can't recommend pt.1 enough... 2 is good but a little long and the weird TV show stuff is out of place IMO.
Anyone else watching the recent Netflix sports drama 'Sanctuary' involving Sumo wrestling? A tough, desperate kid becomes a sumo wrestler, but with his cocky attitude he upsets an industry steeped in tradition ... The lead actor is very entertaining, playing a thug with a heart of gold. There's lots of great characters in it, and its often funny. I'm really digging it.
Yeah, its a good advert for Sumo. I think it will encourage non-Japanese people to check out the sport. I've been learning a few details here and there about the sport watching the show, thats for sure.
yeah so true. After watching the first episode I got a couple of mates to give it a go and one of them said as soon as he watched he first one he immediately started looking up info the rules and finding out more about sumo and the various rituals involved.
I tried Succession a couple of years ago, left a bad taste in my mouth so I quit after a couple of episodes. Then I saw a couple of episodes from Season 4 on a vacation and it rekindled my interest, so I renewed Max and continued where I left off. Right now I am getting to the end of Season 2 and holy shit, that rap that Kendall performs...
The rap was a classic! I watched the S4 finale yesterday and wasn’t disappointed (saying nothing else to avoid spoilers)
Another big thumbs up for Sanctuary, was well worth resubbing for. Best TV for years, great acting, action and pacing. Bring on season 2.
Little Richard: I Am Everything Great doc, really worth your time. I have some quibbles with the production, but the content, scope and perspective make them not matter much. We watched with our 11-year old, and I'm glad we did, but I'd give a heads-up to other parents that the doc has a lot of frank acknowledgment of the sex in LR's life and songs (including talk of orgies and, of course, about "Tutti Frutti" being about butt sex). Also, in covering the police brutality Richard was subjected to on occasion and placing it in context of the time, they touch on Emmett Till, and Till's famous death photo is (kind of abruptly) shown onscreen. Had to stop there and collect ourselves/discuss with the kid; personally, I fall to pieces every time I see that photo/consider his mom's incredible decision to have it run in the paper. Anyway, great, necessary, illuminating doc on the man. The quasar!
I’m about half way through the Skull Island animated series and it’s been total garbage so far. On the flip side I’ve just finished Kotaro lives along and thought it was brilliant. At the start I though this could be lighthearted fun but man it puts you through the emotional ringer.
A few days ago I finished watching the anime Berserk (1997) with my family and it stumped me, if you haven't seen it I highly recommend it, there are only 25 chapters.
There is also a newer series and 3 movies, though I think they cover the same ground as the original, maybe go a little farther. Honestly I wish I stopped watching when Guts left the band of the hawk and pretended nothing happened after that. the movies used to be on Netflix maybe they still are. I know all the newer stuff is on crunchyroll. Seems like Berserk is having a bit of a resurgence as gym culture and iron culture grow in the US. The creator unfortunately died a few years ago so I’m not sure if the story will ever be finished.
As far as I know the creator had not finished the story and apparently a friend of his would be in charge of finishing it, which I personally would not like because I think it would not have the same essence. The manga it covers a bit more and explains what happens to Guts after Griffith's transformation, I guess I'll have to read the manga now. Thank you very much for the information about the movie, I'm going to look for it in Cruncyroll. P.S. And I do think that most people would have preferred to see it until Guts leaves the band of the hawk and be left with the idea that that's how it all ended.
ARROW is a new (to me) streaming service. Supposedly dedicated to cult flicks. 14 d trial, CAD$4.99 / Mo, CAD$49.99 / Yr. I have not signed up for it yet, but planning to. It seems Arrow is a Vimeo OTT Service. Whatever that is. Enjoy if this is new to you too. They do have a a Kaiju Destruction! section (only 20 titles): including a Gamera series
I am a virgo on prime is really good. In one of the characters houses they have some sofubi. I saw a chockhazard blank on the shelf. Always cool to see sofubi on tv
Takeshi's Castle (2023) is a thing on prime. My preference would be MXC with cheesy puns and all that. But u b u..
It looks like MXC is watchable with ads on Amazon in the US. Looks like Shin Kamen Rider is on US Prime, too.
