YEAHHHHH!!!!! PLEASE MAKE THEM BIG AND A MEGA POSTER!! Ok relax... "What to expect when you are expecting?" means a totally different thing on this forum
i expect the mini to be killed off. 5 years of minis were released in 6 months... the mini is dead to me (although I didn't get very many of them, I have a few).
There were a buttload of the minis, but they seem to be doing well. I can't really get excited about them anymore either. There still a bunch that I would like to have, but I can't bring myself to pull the trigger. They're really cool though.
I started with RxH about a year ago, so obviously I have a different perspective than longtime fans. I don't have any problem with a busy release schedule, because I'm only going to buy what I think are the best releases. As far as 2008 vs. older releases, I think it was a really good year overall, although there was a lot of what I'd call filler...only because it doesn't appeal to me. As long as it floats someone else's boat and Mori can sell it, that's just fine with me. Sometimes I'm really surprised by what is & isn't popular. I generally prefer things like colorful freehand sprays, bright vinyl, and unpredictable applications--over masks, unpainted, and tribute releases. I think Real Head is at it's strongest when it has a very bold, pop-art vibe that incorporates modern & traditional influences. My favorite releases this year included the pink bubble Akro, the (sadly neglected) yellow Jinger, the pinkeye & ice Borgs, rainbow Chaos, and several minis. In 2009 I'd like to see more of everything in bold (even if I'm not digging the 2 new mini sculpts), more abstract & "faceless" sculpts, and a much stronger dollar. RHND!
Exactly. I realize that Mori has a store to support and all so he has to release alot of product and give customers options. It's just that the relentless colourways can be overwhelming at times and kinda scattershot in my view. Other companies do this as well.
High points of 2008: - Completed Bruised Set - 2 Dog sets, both killer - Hone Borg, particularly the milky white/blue one - GID/Metallic Paint Chaos Mutant - Return of the Bubble Figures - Minis Low points of 2008: - Too many masks - Rapid fire releases - No more festivals or shows - Minis What I'm looking forward to in 2009: Nothing in particular. I just hope Mori does what he wants and if I like what he makes, I'll buy it. If he makes stuff I don't like, oh well, there's a lot of older ones I'd still like to hunt down. My big hope: GUTS!
