Buyee seems to be sorting things out, still. Just shipped a package, I was presented with a 10,000 yen EMS option and a generic "Buyee Air" option of 4500. I chose the generic, it ends up shipping via EMS for 7500. It's a lot of stuff I got cheap, though, so I'm not really upset.
I'm recommending that anyone using Buyee go for the "Buyee Air Delivery" option. This time I had a single package to forward. EMS was quoted as 2,400 and Buyee Air Delivery was quoted as 2,181. I chose Buyee Air Delivery and it was delivered via EMS for 2,181.
I miss buying from Mandarake. Almost 2 years now and still the only option for Canada is DHL which i just won't use based on their duties-gouging in Canada. Thinking i might EMS to US and then forward from there to Canada. How much are folks finding EMS costs for small to medium size packages these days? (assume 2-4 standard size figures in a box)
Flat rates with size specifics: 2 pounds from Michigan to a random postal code in Montreal: If you want to play around with specifics here's their cost calculations page. Feel free to use my zip, 48220.
So I seem to have a package stuck in ems hell right now, presumably waiting for a plane to the states, or waiting for enough packages to justify a plane to the states. It’s been about 6 days “waiting for dispatch from origin” or whatever the phrase is. I’m Not complaining, this is the first delay I’ve experienced with ems since it started back up again; but I do think going forward with my purchases I’ll be going with dhl for the quicker turnaround for a few extra dollars.
I had a similar delay on my last package that went EMS. Also showed up pretty mangled (although the contents were OK due to lots of bubble wrap). DHL is pretty much my favorite for shipping from Japan. I've had a couple FedEx and the tracking was pretty spotty on those.
yeah. It’s looking like dhl is my go to from now on if available. As for FedEx…. I’d rather not. Every experience I’ve had with FedEx in the last few years has been terrible. Items traveling within my home state going out of state or shuttling between FedEx locations moving in the opposite direction geographically speaking. And with each day that passes without delivery they just change the delivery date to the next day like it’s no thing. Eh.
I have been using EMS from Japan to the US selectively since things opened up again but it has been taking at least a week longer than it used to. US import customs are also slower now with EMS. That said, it works and the package shows up in my experience. I have been saving some money versus DHL on larger boxes.
Well here I go chirping about DHL, then the very next day I pick EMS to save 20 bucks. I'll stop talking shit out my ass.
Of no consequence to most, but hearing rumours of Japan stopping shipping to Europe/UK as flights having to avoid Russian airspace makes it logistically unfeasible.
yeah I think something's up with it already, been waiting for 'Dispatch from outward office of exchange' from Tokyo Int for 4 days now.Things had been very efficient recently.
This has also happened, could be having some effect: https://www.theguardian.com/world/2...n-two-releasing-superstitions-and-toxic-gases
“It’s fucked,” said one European forwarder. “And prices are only going one way." quote is from this article; https://theloadstar.com/air-capacity-plummets-as-japans-carriers-mull-halting-operations-to-europe/
All air post to UK and some of Europe suspended as of today. https://www.post.japanpost.jp/int/information/2022/0308_01_en.html
Just got this from an attempted order at Mandarake too, as it seems all outgoing packages are now only available via DHL (though confusing to me what difference this would make). Although shipping suspensions are listed on the main site now, the UK is not currently under those listed. Hoping this might be a temporary error/be amended soon. Definitely don't like the idea of a complete disruption in services from Japan.
My manda order from 3/3/22 ,was stuck at Tokyo int. until today when it was 'returned to sender' Mandarake are gonna be doing lots of refunds , DHL have their own planes but are crazy pricey these days.
Yep, this sucks. I now have received the option of a cancellation on something that was paid for an should have already been shipped, but obviously got hung up by the short notice of this change. And seeing as I only buy piddly, unhyped toys nobody cares about, it is hardly worth paying more than the cost of things to go with the DHL option. Unfortunate first world problems, of course; this is all so relative. Weird that - never mind for silly toy shipping - airlines just don't have alternative/more logical routes in any case.
Well, that's crap. Also... From June 1st EMS prices are getting hiked up significantly. current prices: https://www.post.japanpost.jp/int/charge/list/ems_all_en.html prices from June https://www.post.japanpost.jp/int/2022fee_change/index_en.html
It feels like my days of getting five Bullmark minis shipped to me for 1,500 yen from Mandarake are ending.
Yup, same here.. just ordered a pack of Bullmark mini’s and shipping was 2,400¥ at Grandchaos. RIP 1,500¥ shipping, it sure was nice.
I just received notice that a box that shipped a week ago has now been returned to the shop. And they are not willing to hold it. This is so frustrating. It is not even an option to choose the upgraded DHL, I completely lose the amount I already paid for the first shipping.
