That makes me sad as I really enjoy all 3 of those shows (Mad Men, Breaking Bad, and the Walking Dead). I really wouldn't know what it costs to make any tv shows, but I know that there aren't that many QUALITY shows like these out there. It will be a shame if the other 2 have to fold due to Mad Men's budget.
meh... for Walking Dead, they should just recruit all those Zombie cosplayers in each city. they look just as good. most of the 1st season was outdoors or warehouses anyways. how much could all that cost?
I think the pace is fine and think it will play out in the end. I prefer a slower paced story though so that is just me. I do agree about Jesse's house, loud music, 24 hour partying, drug addicts leaving with stolen goods, it would have been raided. Maybe that is what Jesse is hoping for and a possibility for upcoming epps. What I'm finding interesting is the use of color. There is something going on with the color purple. It's being heavily used when we see both Walt and Marie. Not only for clothes but for backgrounds. Skyler also finds the doll eye and now we get the cameras. To me it seems like they are doing this slow pace deliberately to make you see the surroundings. So far I like this season and I'm willing to bet by the end it's going to be insane. All in all though season 2 had been my favorite.
15 minutes in I said to myself: "Did me and Rich watch the same episode?" That whole gambling speech was killing me. But I must say it definitely (and finally) turned into the BB I know and love.
I loved how intently Skyler stuck to their script at dinner (including tears!) while watching Walt phone it in. Then you get to see how naturally Walt pulls off improv acting in front of Hank as they go through Gale's notebook. Cranston continues to amaze me with the dynamics of this character.
very vintage type episode yeah. a lot of family interactions and confessions reminding me of s1/s2. then the stuff in the second half with jesse was pretty incredible. wonder why they're opting not to kill him for the time being.
Yeah I agree I don't care much for the dialogue between Skylar and Walt. The whole carwash thing bores me also. Here Skylar thinks she is doing some gangster shit, while Walt is really doing some gangster shit. You can see that all over his face, and the conversation with Sal put all that out there. It doesn't help that I hate her character, just give up the I FART A LOT act already it so damn old. But yeah, the shit is hitting the fan and the tension is building. I still think this season is gonna get really crazy. Everything is coming to a head with Walt at the tip of every one of them.
Yeah I don't like the whole Bonnie and Clyde underline with Skylar & Walt. Skylar has done nothing but annoy me for 3 seasons to the point I'd like some bad to happen to her. Walt just seems annoyed with her and the writers really have to stretch to actually write her into episodes it seems. Can't wait for next week now. SPOILER: Nothing like drives out into the desert where anything can happen.
Haha I have been hoping for the same thing. They just need her for walt Jr. If we have learned anything from seasons past the desert will prove interesting.
The gambling speech was long and boring and terrible but I think it was supposed to be frustrating to watch...makes the viewer understand how frustrated Walt feels having to deal with Skylar being so involved in what was his business. Having to deal with her is now turning into a whole separate pain in his ass. You know it, dude.
SPOILER ALERT.... do you really think they will kill Jesse off? No. I doubt it. Unless they are pulling a Ned Stark. which would surprise me........again. but how to get Jesse back in line? more cautious? he doesn't seem to care if he lives or dies at this point. Guesses: his old gf and kid are in the desert blindfolded and they threaten to kill them.
I'm thinking now that Mike is off with Jesse Walt may go straight for Gus. Without Mike Gus is leaving himself open. I also don't see Jesse being offed if anything I don't see Mike making it back.
Really!? Mike's a stone-cold badass...never crossed my mind that he might not make it back. Unless...the opening scene of the last episode was just to get us thinking that he's too tough to die so it would be more surprising when they kill him... Man, this show rules...can't wait for next week.
oh man.... I would much rather them kill off Jesse than Mike. but Walt doesn't know where Gus is so I don't think he can go after him anyways.
Tuco was a bad mofo and look what happened to him And this weeks preview showed Walt causing a rukus at the fast food joint. Not to mention we saw him approach the house in epp 2 when Mike called and told him to go home. AND I'm comvinced there is something about the purple. On Hanks blog he went into a rant about it. Love this show !!
My favorite scene this week though was the conversation between Hank and Walt after dinner in the bedroom. The way Hank looked at Walt after the quote and the Fremch Connection speech ... Amazing
Thanks for the tip. I love that sort of thing but haven't been paying attention to the use of colors. Guess it's time to start. I read somewhere (maybe at the official site) that the producers think of Mike as a guy who sees a bit of himself in Walt. Not sure what that means, but maybe Walt reminds Mike of his younger self when he was first getting into the game and losing his soul. I can't say that I would have had that impression if I hadn't read it, but I keep thinking about it. Mike made clear that Walt can't interfere with his loyalty to Gus, but I wonder ... Despite what happened at the bar, maybe Walt planted a seed in Mike's mind? I agree w/everyone about Jesse. The audience is ostensibly led to believe that Jesse's going to be killed and buried in the desert, but come on ... that'd be too big of a discard at this point, and we probably wouldn't have been given such an obvious (mis)cue if it were actually going to happen. Maybe down the line, but the show's narrative isn't ready to just toss him just yet. Loved the gallows humor in the opening sequence with Mike's ear. EDIT: Just read the most recent entry at Hank's blog. While complaining about Marie's lack of cooking skills, he says: "I'm not entirely sure why we bought a house with a kitchen. Oh right, so she could fully stock it with the best in the Martha Stewart all-purple collection. Because it's about the perfect matching pots and pans, not the actual, you know, food being prepared within them." This might be over-analyzing, but to me that pretty much speaks to clean appearances vs. dirty realities. I don't know if that's what the purple refers to in general in the show, but it's definitely one of the show's dominant themes. Purple is traditionally a "royal" color, a signifier of class, but it's also a color associated with bohemian indulgence. OK enough over-analysis for now...
I definitely think a seed was planted with Mike. If you notice when he goes to talk with Gus it opens with him focused on the exacto knife in the pen cup. Mike also knows his time could be up and he must be tired of bringing the underpaid muscle that is expendable. I could talk about this show all day Definitely keep an eye on Hanks blog though. And read the newest entry.
Just read it. Whoever is writing that thing is awesome. That was one of the funniest rants I've seen on the 'net in a long time. I'd forgotten about this part of the episode: "Looks like while I was off getting shot and dealing with the repercussions of said shittiness, the drug kingpin I was hunting was setting the world on fire with his awesome karaoke skills. Guess someone didn't like his (actually pretty good) singing and took him out." Hahahaha ... Gale's "Major Tom" karaoke was hilarious (and sort of sadly pathetic.)
Great episode tonight. Gus has got some yoda level managerial skills. Also Breaking Bad has been renewed for 16 final episodes that will be shot consecutively and aired over two more seasons. Happy they struck a deal. Sad to see it ending... http://www.deadline.com/2011/08/done-am ... ore-157448
very interesting. Jesse becomes Mike's sidekick now? hmmmm. love to see Jesse turn into an assassin ala that season of Wired.
Divide and conquer ! Walt getting back with his wife, after setting up the car wash will probably set them up as a team now. And Jessie getting respect (supposedly) from the hitman will make him feel like he can move on to a better position away from Walt. Man I definitely thought someone was going to get it in the desert though. I know a lot of you don't like Jesse but his character development has been amazing. But man fucking walt and his pride ! If he just kept his mouth shut WTF. You could even see Skyler looking at him like what are you doing.
I like Jesse, I just don't like when Jesse reverts to self pity/loathing and acts like a little teenage douchebag/careless idiot. He's beyond that now, so it was good to see him feel a sense of self worth even if it was manipulated by Gus. The thing with Walt and his pride. Not sure if it was entirely just that. I think he felt powerless in the Jesse situation and maybe is trying to get Hank back on the case to try an take Gus/Mike down? Could be way off but you never know how the writers will play things out on this show. Which is what makes it so good.
