Despite some (or rather few) good ideas I did not like the movie. At all.
I could not connect to any of the characters which was partly bad acting, partly bad editing but mostly bad storytelling/directing. I never felt like these were real people (let alone likable characters) - I could not empathize with any of them. The story was a mess - I still do not know what actually happened nor what the motivation of any of the involved parties was. Also, there were a lot of things that just did not make any sense.
Also - why did it have to take place in the sixties when it is not required for the plot? You could have spent that money on something that actually helps to tell a story. Like, a story.

I am still wondering why so many reviews are good. What am I missing?

I've officially given up on Rob Zombie. I've been saying since House and Rejects that he had a classic in him, but each subsequent release has made me doubt that more and more. After watching 31 last night I'm done. What a pointless waste of time. Horribly scripted, horribly acted. It didn't even look good, at least his other movies had that going for them. Zero plot, zero characters to get invested in and root for. A "horror" "movie" for Spencer's mall rat metal kids. Avoid at all costs.

Finally saw Last Shift over the weekend. It definitely had some great creepy moments throughout.
My wife found a decent plot hole (I think) that doesn't ruin the movie, but does kill one of the scares though.

The whole indecent where the main character's father was killed was about a year before the movie. That being said, shouldn't she have recognized the police officer ghost (Price?) when he first checks in on her? He died with her father in that police raid. There had to be some memorial or something for all of the officers. Shouldn't she know him?

This only ruins that jump scare when he finally leaves and you see the gaping wound in the back of his head. Pretty cool though, but that main character should've been more leery.

I'm really enjoying it too. For those of you that haven't checked it out yet, don't let the fact that it's on the Syfy channel keep you from tuning in. It's the best original programming from Syfy in years and one of the most interesting shows on the tube right now, of any channel.

Was just coming here to post about this! It is creepy as fuck! I mean the mood of this show is very nearly pitch perfect. The puppets, the tooth kid, pretty much everything works. So many miles beyond American Horror Story in good, scary fun.

I know nothing about the Creepy Pasta story it's based on, but if there are people out there capable of horror like this then I still have hope for this world!

The end of this week's episode actually gave me chills. Not something I experience very often anymore.

Ok, thanks to everyone who posted about Channel Zero. I went home and watched the first two episodes and was blown away. Everything you've already said is dead on! Can't wait to watch a couple more tonight. Highly recommended!

Coupla new movies have shown up on Netflix that Id' been waiting to see, Sun Choke and Carnage Park. Watched Sun Choke today, and I liked it. I could see myself having not liked it just as easily, on any given day, but (today) found myself intrigued throughout. The main reason may have been the trio of actresses that played the leads. Barbara Crampton has certainly honed her acting chops since the 80s, and the younger leads were equally good. Not a lot happens, and it's probably a bit "arty" for some, but again, it kept my attention. Gonna watch Carnage Park tomorrow.
Finally watched Krampus a week or so ago, and it was pretty fun. Much more violent than I anticipated, and the humor was mixed in nicely.

EDIT: Carnage Park is a dud. That's strike two for this director.

Some great stuff has been added to Shudder, like Phantasm and Society.

The Autopsy of Jane Doe was spooky fun! It isn't very deep, but I squirmed. More autopsy movies please!

The old-timey morgue was a really atmospheric and cool set. I expect there will be an entertaining sequel or two.

'I am the pretty thing that lives in this house' was pretty great, in my opinion. Slow burn and it looked nice. Directed by Anthony Perkins' son, and it's on Netflix for those curious

I was wondering if it was any good. I'm kinda smitten with that actress, but haven't watched her in too many things.

The Monster was really good. Great atmosphere and superb acting by the Kid and the Mom too. Starts pretty slow and builds up perfectly. Kind of a throwback film I'd say. Practical effects mostly and a pretty heartbreaking backstory to the relationship. Rare that I care about what happens to the people in a horror film but damn that kid was tugging on the heartstrings. Good watch for sure.

Just watched this over the weekend. That was batshit crazy! Super A+!
I am totally Team "Kung Fu" after this. She was an awesome character.

I'm not sure in hindsight, but I think each girl had their own theme song or it felt like it.

The Eyes Of My Mother is the creepiest movie I have seen in years. So beautifully filmed and just haunting but it manages to feel small and intimate at the same time. It was gorgeous and so wrong all at once. Feels like it was filmed decades ago instead of this year. Watch it if you get a chance.
