They made 2 of them that size, at least. Turns out, that's what some of the photos I shared actually were (didn't notice any people around to indicate the actual scale)

So, for a minute there, I wondered if all the photos I had seen of the 3D-sculpted remakes were actually jumbo size. But, I just saw this digital scan of the gallery show. Looks like only 2 were done at that massive size. But, since they are obviously digitally sculpted., I suppose it's possible to do any of them in that size, right?

Honestly, that Cyclops Wiggum made me grab my box of WoS from the basement and set them up on a shelf in my office today. It's been a while since I've had 'em on display because they take up so much space - but I'm very happy to see them all again!

This image is from the hxsaigansho blog on Mar31 2016. You can see his love for this character has been very long...

or the figure has been in production for 5 years. LOL

I have come to the point where I know and understand I will never win a HxS lottery. This is super sad as a fan but I guess if this is art, and not a toy, then it is the way.

I don't think he does a lottery anymore.
Just sends out to his "most loyal" customers.
I miss the days when I would leave a tab open on his blog just in case he had a 24 hour lottery.
But I've only won two of his lotteries and one went straight into my junk mail not to be seen for a couple years.

This must be brutal, So people have like ZERO chance to get any of his stuff if they're newer fans?

No man, just play the game. Post a bunch of Nags and Ilu Ilu you don’t really have for trade for HxS, and make sure you tag Hirota. Just create the illusion you’re a big baller who values his toys over everything else.

I find it kind of strange seeing all the photos of flowers/gifts with instagram handles written on notes. Maybe I'm totally wrong but this custom really feels like - congratulations please sell me the toy.

@GoldenArmKid I don’t think you’re wrong at all. I find that to be the physical embodiment of “NEED” comments filled with fire, heart eyes and prayer hand emojis.

I'm almost positive there was a card in ONE of those bouquets with those emojis spammed on it.

@Urk I wouldn’t be surprised at all, honestly. Aside from how goofy and sad I think it is(admittedly an asshole outlook), it could be a cultural thing I simply don’t understand.

I think much of it is cultural. While I admit I roll my eyes, I am sure they do the same when they see Westerners dumping toys they "love" to the highest bidder 30 seconds after the mailman arrives.

I recently sold a gorilla ju and when it arrived the buyer sent me a picture of a white smear on the hand, like it was undisclosed damage. I knew it wasn’t a scratch because the base vinyl was blue and told him repeatedly to try wiping it off with water, and what do you know, it came off. I don’t know if he dropped something on it unknowingly or if customs examined it and got something on it, or if this was a scam to get some kind of money back. But watch it out there. I’ve been painting toys for over 10 years so I knew it was bullshit.
And then there was no response he wiped it off ok, no my bad, or sorry. He just posted it on Instagram. So yeah, rich dicks…

This is always my favorite part of the creature bazaar popshop events, or when people just put "HEADLOCK" in the chat.

I had a similar experience with one of the HxS I sold.

It eventually conspired that the buyer had bought via an intermediary who repackaged the toy in a way smaller (less protected) box, scuffing it up and leaving the header card in the original box before forwarding. Fortunately the buyer ended up being cool about it in the end, but I had the same 'ruh roh' moment when he sent through pics of the damaged toy and the insinuation my pictures were fake.

Maybe I got scammed in the same way when I sold one of my King Ju a few years back. I practically gave them more HxS because I felt so bad about it.

    ^^ Ouch!

See, stories like this make me happy I am not trying to sell my toys (not that I have anything average [that is, non-hype chasers] would want.

Funny you should mention that. There were a few floral wreaths on stands that I definitely thought were funeral arrangements. For Asians celebrating something, that's definitely a no no!

Damn! I'm surprised nobody has posted/mentioned the Crocodile God! I mean, I get it. Looking at Hirota stuff has lost a lot of its appeal knowing how unattainable it is. Still, it's a pretty fun dude:

The hinged jaw is a unique detail you don't see often on vinyls. Probably helps that the figure looks HUGE.

At first glance, it has heavy Harryhousen Kraken vibes, But apparently it's based on Prisoner Troop? (囚人部隊) a 1-shot manga drawn by Masami Watanabe published in Shonen King published in 1967:

And I think this is a drawing produced by Mr. Masami Watanabe (渡辺正美氏が) that Hirota based the figure on. Love seeing process stuff like this.

Also, I might have lost some accuracy of this info in translation. Check for yourself to see if i fudged anything

Pretty cute... very clean (so much so it looks digital). It's a perfect execution of the vintage motif he was trying to emulate, but overall fairly basic and without a personal touch that would make it evident he had any hand in the design. Would love to have one, but never for the price they'll fetch for.

I found it a bit strange when browsing instagram yesterday for the fist time in a long while when I saw several vintage Devilman figures being shared. Could have been a coincidence, and of course as both a vintage collector and Devilman fan, this was great to see - but it immediately stood out. And then I understood why.

In spite of all the hype though, I am in a place where I can still separate it at the appreciation of the toy itself. This is something that really excites and pleases me. I have long been a fan of the 'disco dancing bootlegs' (as anyone who has been on here for a while will know). They are something that used to get almost no attention but that did not change my sheer love for them in the slightest. I was thrilled with the Fig-Lab revival of the style, as I know at least there are a few other individuals out there who like them as much as I do. I always wanted to see someone take on a scaled up version of these figures (I think only a KR was ever available).

So for those reasons alone, this is making me smile. Forget where it is coming from altogether, I just like it as a fun Devilman toy. The sculpt and expression are there, the slightly bigger size is great, and in short, I'd consider myself very lucky to have one (or a bunch) of these in my house to play with. Thing is, I would likely love just as much as a cheap KO made in the tens of thousands. I am sure it is highly unlikely to happen though (will still try of course).

And I do as well feel a sense of trepidation about what this HxS (and father) connection mean to the demand on the vintage boots. I can already see people freaking out and falling over each other to chase them and 'claim' they always loved them. Look for something that was virtually ignored except among a niche of people to getting flipped for the big monies. Hey, it is what it is.

    TL;DR - it's a very cool toy and I can appreciate it.

Fingers crossed (but not getting my hopes up) for a mass market Medicom production.

Apparently the lottery for this has run! I had no idea, but such is life. Thankfully there are many dancing bootlegs to choose from (for now...) as Steve pointed out.

This is one case where I'm sure the production will be lovely, but I'm not married to any special 'HS styling' on the toy itself. Congrats if you got in!
