There’s also the post credit scene to KotM where Jonah is shown King Ghidorah’s head and says he’ll “take it,” leading me to wonder if Mecha King Ghidorah will somehow show up or be referenced?

The best big monster movie ever.

    By a fucking mile.

I thought the new Kong film was alright. The last Godzilla film was just okay too. Neither were great in my opinion. This film was a true epic. Yes there are plot holes and some nonsensical shit and stupid human stuff to get through but holy fuck the fight scenes were amazing. None of the bullshit smoke and fog and quick cutaway garbage to hide the action at all. Great lighting at night and ever better looking full on daytime battles. The best effects I have ever seen on screen. Godzilla was a true monster! They made him look so mean and the textures were amazing. Kong was beautiful as well and conveyed emotion in his face wonderfully. It was certainly more of a Kong movie than a Godzilla movie though. None of the stupid trailer soundtrack popped up in the movie. The fights had a clear winner as well which I thought they would shy away from. It was great. I am gonna watch it again next weekend for sure.

Saw it yesterday at the movies ! First time going in a theater in over a year, like most of us.
Monsters are great, fight scenes are amazing, I liked the end and the message of the movie (or the one I created in my own head, hard to tell).
Humans shenanigans is pretty weak overall and I didn’t cared for most of them, and the music, while nowhere as terrible as the trailer, still didn’t do it for me.
Overall happy I went out to see it and I will probably not to that again any time soon. It’s just weird to be sitting in a closed space with strangers not wearing masks (people eat popcorns).

I had fun with this new one. They knew what the wanted to make and they made it. If I was 10 it would have been my favourite movie ever and that is enough for me.

@Waterbear I absolutely LOVED all the fighting and monster smashing. It was intense, fast, but very clear as to each strike that hit, and extremely well done.

    However,
aside from Irene Andrews and Jia, the entire human cast of characters was absolute dog shit. Josh and Bernie were aggravating as all get out. Madison has been a consistent character throughout all three movies, but all three of the aforementioned served absolutely no purpose to this movie, sans the forced disruption of the last fight. Anything that was intended to be comedic in this movie was so forced, it just was just annoying. I feel like the writers and/or director saw all the criticisms for how bad and dumb all the human storylines and interactions are from fans and said “Fuck it. Make this one awful and amplify the fighting tenfold.”

Mecha G needs to ease up on the diet! Dude was looking a little too trim.

Fight scenes were dynamic and well-paced, the fur on Kong was insane, and as expected - the humans were trash. Agree 100% @xSuicide Squadx, every one-liner could not have fallen flatter.

Either going to watch tonight, or force myself to hold out for next weekend and have my first viewing be at the drive-in with my daughter... or watch tonight and then again next weekend at the drive-in. (Was thinking about the drive-in tonight, they're open and screening it, but it's going to be 32 degrees at showtime.)

(As an aside, if you've accessed HBO Max to watch GvK, check out Painting With John while you're in there.;))

I watched it twice now and really enjoyed it.Someone somewhere involved owes Hideaki Anno a drink or two.It also left me wanting to see a Takashi Miike 'zilla movie...

Not much to add to what has already been said on this thread already:

Fight scenes made it worth watching, story line was below average and predictable. Given a large portion of the target demographic are kids, the fact the story was uninspired is of no surprise. However, plenty of films have proven you don’t need to dumb down the story for a young audience and you can create a duality in narrative that appeals to adults and kids alike. Consider animated films like Wall-E: minimal dialogue, narrative that works on various levels and a strong story driven without the need for a large cast of characters. Smart films can be made, you just need talented people involved.

As @xSuicide Squadx said, the majority of the actors were both annoying and, for those in the U.K., it felt like they were acting in a pantomime (I’m the Villain! I am the comic relief, etc etc). This alone was what made me start wondering whether they could have taken the Wall-E approach and let the non speaking characters (Goji and Kong) carry most of the narrative and story; it would have taken finesse but I think it could be done.

@Kerk1 nailed one of my biggest issues, MG... far too slim, what was with that waist?! I wish a little more respect had been paid to the original reference; it felt like a missed opportunity.

He may have had some firepower but his lemon shaped upper body and head detail let him down imho.

Not an original observation, but if Kong is 393 feet tall, shouldn't he have a 393 inch long dick? Did I miss the scenes with Mr. Floppy, or did they just edit his scenes very carefully?

It's PG-13, they're not going to show us King Kong's ding dong.

I had a great time with this. It was the right kind of dumb, as a friend put it. I could had done without the Three Podcasteers. The movie is certainly at its best when Kong and the Tron vehicles are exploring Inner Earth.
