The music for the trailer almost ruined it for me, but I am super excited for this. I feel like the “Godzilla’s hurting people, and we don’t know why” line paints it nicely for Mecha G to be the true antagonist. I’ve also seen a couple screen caps where it looks pretty clear MG’s tucked into the trailer. My biggest gripe with the first two Godzilla’s is that it gets made way, way, WAY too much about the humans in the movie, and the monsters are just background noise. Even in King of the Monsters the human “agenda” overtook the storyline in a way that made Godzilla and the subsequent monsters to follow second class to the overall story. Kinda sounds like that’ll be the case here again, with the kid that’s connected to Kong. But that’s me nitpicking. All in all, it looks bad ass, “Kong bows to no one” gave me chills, Godzilla getting his shit rocked by a right hook was awesome, and the atomic breath looks more prevalent and of use.
absolutely hated the music LOL but i think godzilla 2 was way more monster mayhem heavy and that was good enough for me! the first scene with mecha-g's head through the smoke and the battery charging screen were really obvious so hopefully the second trailer shows more and maybe shines some more light on Mega-Godzilla and Apex cybernetics!
Same feeling about the music. There are so many talented people doing music for movies this day... what was that all about? Anyways... super excited about the movie. I hope it will be more about the monsters and less about the humans this time.
Yeah, King of the Monsters was far, far more battle/fight heavy, and I loved that. I could’ve totally gone without the whole “the world never belonged to us/we need to release the ‘titans’ to kill half of humanity if we want a fighting chance” narrative, as well as the bickering parents over the kid thing, but I guess they gotta run with something. The “maximum charge” in the background was a pretty big giveaway, so I’m sure they’ll get more surprises to the fans’ eyes by the next trailer. And even if not I’m totally okay with 100% surprises when it drops! In Arizona you can rent out a whole ass theater for less than $200, so I’m thinkin’ of doin’ that myself for a handful of friends and we can watch all together, distanced.
Just watched... I was like, what sucktacular music were they talking about? Then Goji rises up from the water at about 1:20 and it's HERE WE GO AW YEEEAH!! JFC... absolutely ridiculous, and simply fuckin' disrespectful to the monsters. Whoever made this music choice: you are out of touch. Here's hoping it's just for the trailer... otherwise, have to say this looks killer.
I doubt there will be another big trailer, the movie comes out on March 21, only two months from now. It will be on HBO Max to watch for 31 days afterwards. Did this movie's release screw up Playmates' toy releases? I don't see that SPOILER figure in the lineup on Wikizilla: https://wikizilla.org/wiki/Playmates#Godzilla_vs._Kong_.282020-.29
hmm maybe there will be a new wave of releases? i also dont see the other godzilla from the leaked line up
I wish Kong was 3 times smaller than he is for some reason... I saw the toys at Walmart the other day. I wish they were vinyl. I will be watching this with my nephews and probably enjoy it.
I was particularly put off by Kong Island, I spent maybe 85% of my time with it wanting to leave the theatre, but some folk I respect seemed to enjoy it very much. Anyone care to share some thoughts, for or against, to either make me feel better about my reaction or actually consider a second look? Spent 99% of my time wanting to take a nap during King of the Monsters, and the next several hours trying to rid myself of the headache I had by the end of the screening. Very much not for me, as immersive gaming experience aren't words that ever resonated with me. Head tangent, shared: Happy New Year, everyone!
The trailers music isn't necessarily up to my taste, but it looks like it'll just be an action packed Godzilla movie, with many cool shots and some great effects. In regards to any prior movies, I think the 2014 Godzilla is pretty dull, plot isn't necessarily great, and few "cool" moments are few & far between, but Kong is definitely my favorite of the bunch thus far. I just think there are some fantastic shots, and the ones reminiscent of Vietnam style war movies are amazing, albeit the characters aren't absolutely the best, and then King of the Monsters has some great shots as well, but the human element is a little lacking.
I enjoyed Kong: Skull Island because I went into it dreading yet another remake of the original movie. Instead it mixed things up: Kong appears within the first 15 minutes, they don't whisk him off to Manhattan (a strange place but much less interesting than Skull Island). I could have done without Tom Hiddleston and Brie Larson but overall I had fun. Also, the director had a good sense of humor about some nitpicks folks had: I'm definitely going to rewatch Skull Island and Godzilla 2014 in the lead-up to this movie, but I can't bring myself to watch King of the Monsters again. I felt like I had been duped into watching an Asylum film in a theater. Laser Lizard vs. Triple Dragon.
Guess who's coming to visit!!!! Also very excited to see this. I think from the first film every one has been better. Kong Skull Island is hands down the best of them. I really enjoy a human adventure film wrapped around a big monster smash much more then a human drama wrapped around a monster smash...
Interview with Playmates about the toys: https://www.tohokingdom.com/blog/interview-john-stelzner-playmates-toys/
Two movie-going experiences I legitimately fell asleep during: as a kid at the drive-in, for the John Derek'sTarzan and Caveman double feature, and King of the Monsters, at an afternoon showing. The first time was probably due to eye fatigue (I didn't understand near-sightedness was setting in), the latter was probably that ORCA chicken sound effect on loop.
Ended up being pleasantly surprised and thoroughly enjoyed Skull Island, never took itself too seriously and delivered across the board for me. The last 2 American Godzillas.. pretty meh in terms of story and character design but thats pretty much what I expect from the Western versions at this point. I'm not familiar with the director for this one but I wish we'd get some more dynamic and cerebral storytelling in these like we did in Shin. I feel like at this point, we'll see any movie with Godzilla in it so why not hop off the Michael Bay bandwagon and take more risks with the franchise? I don't think I'll ever get tired of seeing these behemoths duke it out across the globe so I'm definitely excited for what's in store for us with Godzilla vs Kong! Definitely expecting the same corny, melodramatic human bullshit though
Looks like the super X flying over Kong’s shoulder in the trailer- probably gonna be the Godzilla skin suit Mecha G attacking humans and ships and shit.
This Because profits Big meh for me, but unfortunately an obligatory watch just the same. Not in a rush to go confirm all my fears though. Music is total garbage, even worse than that horrible garbage cover of the BOC classic in KOTM. Fuck modern Hollywood sci fy Bah humbug
I want one Kong or Godzilla movie with no fucking people in it. No stupid human drama. No love story. Just giant things being giant things. Zero dialog. All action. Like Gon.
I always said that the original King Kong vs Godzilla was of pretty poor quality (even if Honda says it was meant to be humorous) so it wasn't some sacred cow that left me terrified of a modern take. I have for the most part enjoyed every release in the Legendary monsterverse but I'll be damned if that trailer did not leave me feeling like this could be awful. Sorry but Godzilla looks like he is getting his ass kicked in every scene, Kong is way too big and I'm not liking the Mecha-G design if those Playmate toys are anything to go off. I'm there for release date naturally but I hope they don't do the big G too dirty...A last minute Mechakong reveal could elevate the whole affair! Come on Wingard fuck are you doing? Anyway the whole affair reminds me of this take on Batman V Superman's ridiculous "Martha" scene:
