Wanted to share a new artist that released several pachi kaiju a couple of months ago. The work here is certainly referential but also feels pretty fresh. Aside from the work itself, of note is their sales method. They're completely transparent, selling mail-order on a site called Booth, while archiving sales periods, full run numbers, and even the base vinyl number codes. They claim that if a particular toy in a particular color sells out, they'll make it again if they get 30 or more requests. All at great prices, too. Kankan-Kaiju King Gagodora Gerasuzun This seems to be inspired by Miura's "Wrinkle Kaiju" and the anonymous "Six-Horned Kaiju" from the 70's. v1 v2 Kyouaku-Kaiju Vanillin Seems to be directly influenced in both look and name by Bullmark’s Vanilla. v1 v2 v3 Alternate sculpt v1 Gankyou-Kaiju Oxtoberockgole Pageres Say that three times fast. Directly influenced in both look and name on Bullmark’s Oxter, with a hint of Mogunezun and Seabozu. v1 Mui-Kaiju Namna Here is a video of a collector fondling this toy for 5 minutes. I completely agree with his sentiments. Loosely influenced by Bullmark's 2020 Astron reissue. v1 v2 Shoudou-Kaiju Geodra Directly influenced in both look and name on Bullmark’s Diamond Kaiju. v1 Genkou-Kaiju Kiladoras Influenced in both look and name by Bullmark's Kyla and Giradoras. v1 Oogui-Kaiju Goramon (with Gelato) It's a Gorilla. It's a Garamon. It's a Goramon. v1 Teinen-Kaiju Doropushigagan (with Sawarovski) Influenced directly by Hedoran. v1 Teinen-Kaiju Doropushingaga (with Sawarovski) Influenced directly by Hedoran. v1 Teinen-Kaiju Doropushiganga (with Sawarovski) Influenced directly by Hedoran. v1
Thanks for posting the information on this company. I like the style of some of their recent figures, which has a rougher look, sort of like the Popy Kingsaurus toys. I think the figure at the top (King Gagodora Gerasuzun) definitely pulls from the patchi kaiju known as the 'Six-Horned Kaiju' by an unknown maker, as well.
No problem. There are many new interesting and exciting pieces being made at a faster pace than ever before, yet discussion has seemed to have slowed in comparison. Do you have a visual reference for the “Six-Horned Kaiju”? Can’t seem to find one. Miura’s Wrinkle Kaiju has been talked about on here before, especially in the context of more modern remakes from Hukkokudo and Gargamel. Here’s the OG for reference. That slice down the chest is unmistakable:
I finally found a photo on flickr. I think the owner is a member here, and I'm sorry, but I can't remember your user name.
I notice this company and try to purchase a toy but didn't work somehow it said that it would be a link to buyee...aside from that I thought they were great pachi looking toys.
If you send Buyee the link directly, they might be able to purchase for you. Before looking on the secondary market, the artist has mentioned a restock coming shortly.
Sorry, missed something that must be obvious to vintage collectors; Vanillin is definitely based in name, sculpt and color on Bullmark’s Vanilla. (Image taken by @Shiverbones, used here without permission).
Thank you for continuing with me on my journey of vintage self-discovery. My new find is that Oxtoberockgole Pageres (phew) is most definitely based on Bullmark’s Oxter. More images here.
That's a really good catch. Hmm, I wonder if all of their kaiju and names are mash-ups of vintage toys. For Oxtober, the spines remind me of Bullmark Mogunezun. I think someone mentioned the head is Seabozu. I can't put my finger on it, but the body texture looks like something I have seen before too.
Yeah, I think I’m starting to understand why the company is called Echo Shokai. It’s fun to spot the references. Great additions to Oxtober, I see both! There was a new release yesterday where second versions and new figures were added. I’ve spotted references to Bullmark’s Kyla and Diamond Kaiju. See above. Oddly King Gagodora Gerasuzun is the only one not directly influenced by Bullmark in some way.
For posterity, visual references from the latest release. Bullmark's Diamond Kaiju for Geodra. Bulmark's Kyla (right) for Kiladoras.
Thank you! It sure looks like it and explains the other half of the name. I was wondering where the color way came from. Another Bullmark.
The newest Hedoran-inspired guy (just added above) is my favorite by far. I'll be looking out for him.
It wouldn't let me add the restock to my buyee cart! Anyone else have this issue? Definitely going to grab the trio when/if I can.
@BrickBat The Buyee option is broken. Create a Booth account and then use Buyee's parent company, Tenso. It's basically the same service but you get a physical address to use.
