This one should bring a variety of answers... YodaQ! This is a drip - super cute but with that weirdo vibe, also got that playability factor by popping off the feet and turning the toy into a hand puppet. View this post on Instagram
The original penny toy had charm for miles, but: this fellow is exaggerated to the cutesy a few feet too far for me; his hype beast hair reminds me too much of any number of thousand-dollar-blanks; and my initial thought that his platform smoothness was bait for the worst of ruiners was borne out with under a minute of Goggledge... Give me a Zollmen Mego or just about anybody's version of Baruden Seijin any day, but this toy is 165% not for me. Skip! The puppet conversion idea does sound kinda fun, though.
I've always liked ObaQ and the strange egg shaped body with Rat Fink type feet on this toy appeal to me. The hair adds to the vintage look, and those glitter versions look even better than previous releases. I wouldn't rush out and buy one, but I'm saying DRIP.
Isn’t this that toy that they did in a racist blackface colorway? Definitely a skip, two thumbs down.
Big fat Skip for me. Nothing about it appeals to me, and I love my weirdoh/fink shit. The shapes (body, arms, feet) are way too bland. Not a fan of toys with “hair.” The face is unimaginative, imo.
Cool @hellopike you've shown us all that you aren't racist, good to know you're one of the good guys. Although in looking at this toy I don't hold onto thoughts of a poorly conceived colourway from months ago - I'm just looking at the sculpt, the character, the influences behind the toy etc Should a toy as an object be judged by a single colourway or a shitty custom? Maybe going forward the displayed colourway is part of the criteria that's being discussed - so in this case it's the glitter colourway with hair.
It’s still shitty. Glitter and hair certainly don’t add to it, that’s for sure. And don’t try to downplay racism man, all the snark in the world doesn’t make that shit ok.
Wasn't downplaying it - so don't stick that label on me. Just saying you are the shining example of decent human beings everywhere by bringing up that colourway for no other reason than to make yourself look good by condemning it. And then you try and label me as not caring about it / downplaying it. All you are doing is exploiting racism to make yourself look like a better person - which is pretty damn shitty. Anyway - back the toys!!! Who's got a Drip/Flip/Skip to post? I can't be the only member putting things up for discussion here
Futura x Star Wars x Funko View this post on Instagram Some people are going as far as saying this release is 'amazing'.. what the hell are they smoking? This looks like the most lazy phoned-in sell-out shit I've seen in a long while... this is a big SKIP. Funko aside, if these layouts were on regular Boba Fett figures and caps/backpacks they would still be shit. Will be interesting to hear people's thoughts - Star Wars (of course) & Futura both have some fans on this board I'm sure..
I'm glad I visited this thread today. I didn't know racism was bad, so I certainly learnt something. There's nothing like a nerdy thread about toys to inform you of the important issues
Not to make this the official MX1 discussion thread, but I think this is the best version so far. Surprise drip from me.
I'm generally a fan of Futura's work but this looks extremely phoned in and overtly a cash grab. It reminds me of those artist themed bearbricks but with surprisingly less effort.
DRIPPITY DRIPPING DRIPPER DRIP. The vibrancy and playfulness of the mixed parts really balances out the militant and serious vibe of the figure. Cool shit.
Skip for me. Mixed parts toys can be beautiful, but I just personally would prefer one with sprays. I think there are two good rules of thumb for mixed parts toys. 1.) It needs to be four or five colors. 2.) The same color should not touch itself at any point on the toy. This figure meets rule 2, but not rule 1, so I think it could have looked better, even without paint.
