    Ha!

Mori (and others?) had some sort of airsoft pellets they filled clear figures with. Not sure, but those seemed fine last i saw one…

I'm no chemist, but I can't imagine the reaction between the pellets and vinyl to be so complete in what, maybe 10 years of time? Do you have an example of this happening?

EDIT: If there were a reaction, I also think we would see the pellets melting inside the figure, before the outside of the figure is affected.

After thinking about this figure more, I agree that it probably is a custom. I wonder if the hard surface may be created by extensive clear coating?

Maybe whatever was in contact with the vinyl hardened?

I have the yoiko omocha drink dispenser guys and the bb pellets are fine but the little styrofoam pellets melted and stuck on the inside of the vinyl

It starts happening basically right away. But yes - it’s more evident after a longer time. I’m sure lots of you have seen the old keshi-still-in-the-capsule look? Same idea.

oh - and maybe be monsterkolor clear coating?…

Was thinking of exactly this, the foam balls in those are very annoying. Noticed mine staining the vinyl right after opening the package.

I am pretty sure that David/@toothaction has documented where each of the Buta 'concept' characters were pulled from, previously in one of the Buta threads if I am remembering correctly. But basically, yes, Ohashi-san took each of these from unmade/unrealised or obscure/brief references in the show, which highlighted how deep a fan he is of the franchise (and I think was a dream for him to create these, as someone who spent many years building model kits).

I thought there was a post about this too, but I couldn't find it today. Some of the info was from Buta's blog, and unfortunately the posts have been removed since then.

As far as I have seen, Buta made 4 Gundam mecha figures so far:

Gunboy - Based on an early, unused design for the Gundam by Kunio Ookawara.
YMS-08A - An MSV design, sort of a prototype for the Gouf.
Prototype MS 1 (Zaku II colors) - Based on a sequence from the original anime showing other Zeon designs. This one was also released in red, presumably as a reference to Char's Zaku II. See @Roger 's post above.
Prototype MS 2 (Z'Gok colors) - Same as above. The colors were taken from the vintage Clover vinyl of the Z'Gok, rather than the animation colors. Always thought this was a nice touch.

I think there were only 5 releases in total. Anyone remember others?

Ha! You had me scared for a moment! I shook the little guy and the pellets are still loose! Thank you Jon and Daniel, for the clear coat info! That's why it has that hard plastic feel. That subtle indigo blue wash is really beautiful. Do you think Mr. O did the custom painting? Possibly Gargamel?

I didn't think so, it doesn't look like their painting style. A mystery! The hard coat treatment makes it seem like a candy container. Should I take the pellets out then?

Can anyone explain why Buta has never sculpted a Dada or a devilman figure? The devilman is just kind of a pie in the sky dream, but the Dada seems like an obvious miss?

I think I remember seeing Dada on a Buta header card, so perhaps he'll eventually get around to it? I'm still waiting for a Buta Tiger 7!

Hello Buta buddies. This may be something or it may be nothing.

Recently, I obtained a Gomira (the purple, semi-translucent version) and noticed something off. It's missing its teeth. No painted teeth to be found. I know that, typically, these standard size figures come with their teeth nice and shiny. Immediately I thought maybe it was a fake, but as far as I know, there aren't any fake Butas. Doing a little digging, the only other image of this type of toothless Gomira I can find is being shown in this Mandarake article from 2009. Maybe they're one and the same. Maybe there were a bunch made like this.*

So, I bring the question to you. Do figures sometimes come missing paint application? Is that typical? It's still very charming, teeth or no.

*(Edit 1: upon further inspection, I believe this is the one from the 2009 Mandarake photo. The eyes especially give it away.) (Edit 2: It seems like the figure never sold, which seems totally plausible given the year. Seven years later, it went up for auction on Mandarake and didn't sell either).

Strange! I can't imagine the artist not painting the teeth here, especially if he usually has..

Buta often doesn’t paint teeth. Noneof the jamiras have painted teeth (sadly)

good chance he just missed them on this one. I've almost left out details on my own stuff and realized at the last minute.
Really just depends on the figure and the paint app if he'll do the teeth.

It's funny when he doesn't, because they tend to look ravenous and blood soaked.

As far as I can tell... Shirage, Jamira and Garamon do not have their teeth painted, ever. Neither do smaller figures like Greenman Ape and Puckey. Chiba Q is the only figure between standard and small that received variable teeth/no teeth painted.

I know this is the information you've been thirsting for, people.

HA! Blood thirsty indeed. I came close to painting some of my dudes’ teeth myself, but opted not to in the end. Sacrilegious thoughts happen to the best of us at times.

Not trying to be a dick, but page 1 of this thread shows a ton of sculpts with painted teeth. Buta’s runs aren’t small and this one probably just slipped through the cracks.
