best guess is Ikarus, if you open up the green arrow graffitti book they are side by side with same vinyl base color
Of all the crazy ass, random, eccentric, interesting paints on the Bemon Kougai, this is the first one that I’m sort of scratching my head over. I don’t hate it, but I can’t necessarily say I like it either. Regardless, always good to see Bemon make a return.
You and @chimmychazz said the same thing, and I think if you look at the back it’s spot on. It’s tough to tell from the frontal picture that it’s split directly down the middle.
Thank you so much for the history, photos, and a treasure trove of details . I'm not a BeMon collector (although I wouldn't say no, if Mr H handed me a BeMon), but I really enjoyed the extensive compilation and seeing all of the different versions as they evolved. Hats off to you for a great job! I have a new appreciation and respect for the artist and collaborators and how hard they worked (it's not just a "hype toy", but it did become so ). Those paint jobs are fantastic. From the few descriptions of Mr. Hondosan, he sounds like a really interesting guy). Thank you!
That header card is absolutely adorable, with all the playfulness of a kid drawing with a big box of Crayons (remember those?) at school. This would be a great toy in anyone's collection, such a hysterically funny and horrific sight (the BBQ) in toy history
Pogue has nothing to do with it. First time admitting this publicly but It was me and Joe Bunny. I just happened to search "Lord Bemon" out of curiosity and this popped up. Since we were working for Super7 at the time we couldn't be overt. I made that header card with crayons using my left hand. Glad to see Lord Bemon lives on in some form.
Also we burned the Boba in Golden Gate park.I have all the outtakes on some hard drive. The Boba did not burn easily, it was certainly high quality sofubi. Here's some more vintage (Lord) Bemon. Bemon 1/1 with Lamour Supreme plexi painting. I do not own these beasts anymore.
I dig it. What i like about Bemon releases is that each one is enough to give me a full sense of the vibe. i'm not sure i'm saying that right--but basically, i could be happy with just one. More would be fun. One feels complete (to me).
That there is one fine Kougai. He’s living his best aloha with me in Hawaii right now. So good to see you posting here Alex, I hope all is well!
My man, hoping i'd see you here. Thank you! It's nice to see so many familiar faces/names on here. It was a difficult decision letting it go but glad he's doing well.
Wish you would've invited us to the BBQ! Yes, my jaw also dropped at reading this! Nice to see you posting again Alex, LOVE the header card . p.s. you sold me my very first sofubi toy at the old S7 store -- US Toys caramel-colored Bemular (which I still have and treasure). I did ask a lot of dumb questions (having previously only collected Uglydolls), but you were very patient and super nice. Instant addiction.
Pogue was not in the office enough to do something like that. However we did convince him to donate the Goga for the Lord Bemon piece. The 2008 S7 crew had so much fun at the time. despite the financial crisis really changing collecting at fhe time.
This post keeps disappearing. I remember it well. Those early says for me were so much fun. I got to just info dump about everything i loved. I still love US Toys and am after the Booska rating ramen in the semi-standard size.
I was fortunate enough to own two Kougai Bemons during my heavy collecting days- safe to say I now regret getting rid of any of them. Really unfortunate that they're now pretty much unobtainable unless you've got more than $1k laying around- really puts the old prices into a new light. Turns out $500 - $800 wasn't all that bad.
