Not much, I believe. One clear purple Goga and one clear pink Drunk Boy were released recently via Medicom as Angel Abbey exclusives for some recent show. I don’t think AA is doing much himself these days due to illness. I was, and still am, a fan of the Medicom preorders in theory, and there were some really nice releases. There are still some I’m looking for. But they released too many toys too quickly, peppered with some lousy colorways here and there..effectively killing most people’s enthusiasm for the line. Not mine though . I need that new Goga sculpt, I slept on it and regret it. Did the mini Drunk Boys ever get made? A few releases towards the end I missed, and I’m still kicking myself.
Interesting. If he keeps an obvious kinship to the Goga this could be awesome. Or terrible, now that I think about it.
Yes, the middle sized drunk boy has been shipped in Japan. I think this is one of the best time to collect AA now. Not super readily available because cheerleaders & trophy hunters are not bothered about made-to-orders, which ironically make some of the later runs pretty rare. But prices are still reasonable when u find one.
I really like the new Goga and wish I grabbed one. But that 300 price tag was just a bit much on the images of the sample mock up. Can’t say I care for that digital sculpt. I hope he doesn’t lose his spirit in Z-brush.
As much as I like Anraku original creations, this Godzilla hits the character right on the nose with charm.
I agree with @JoeMan, that new sculpt is really at odds with what we’ve come to know and love about Anraku’s sculpting style. Lots of texture, sure, but too many disparate elements for my taste. I agree with @chimply.kaiju regarding the goji sculpt though- it’s great! It has the chunkiness and irreverence of the Bear Model gojis, which I can definitely appreciate. Edit-I’m also reminded of the Sofvi Life Pretty Godzilla toy, another one of my favorites.
I know this is a bit par for the course but I'm really enjoying the textured ceramic sort of vibe on the Godzilla sculpt.
I'm guessing it will be offered through Medicom (hopefully) or the more difficult situation where it's an event exclusive... in that case, don't hold your breath!!
Info from SyFY: The Nose-Scratch of Victory In 1966's Godzilla vs. the Sea Monster, directed by Jun Fukuda, Godzilla briefly engages in battle with a giant condor, swatting at the overgrown bird with his arms before ultimately dispatching it with a point-blank blast of his atomic breath. The charred condor subsequently plunges onto the rocky shoreline and then to its death in the sea. However, the really interesting moment occurs a few seconds afterward. Instead of rearing his head back and roaring in triumph as is usual for him, the King of the Monsters casually scratches the side of his nose with his index finger. This little nuance might come across as inexplicable and random to most western audiences, but average Japanese moviegoers in 1966 would've recognized this as a direct homage to popular actor and singer Yuzo Kayama, whose performance antics often included rubbing his index finger against the side of his nose. A fun footnote: Yuzo Kayama is the son of actor Ken Uehara, who had noteworthy roles in three of Honda's most acclaimed sci-fi movies: Mothra (1961), Gorath (1962), and Atragon (1963).
I think this was the only colorway but it was released in an open edition for a limited time - so everyone who ordered within a given time frame got one. Though as have already been suggested it was made available to Japan residents only, who could snag one between Sunday, December 24, 2017 0:00 to Wednesday, January 31, 2018 23:59 Should be a few out there though! Saw this on FB, not sure if the poster is a member here (don't mean to steal your thunder with this fantastic shot!) but had to share. Looks like there are some significant differences from the proto posted but above but this still came out fantastic. Checks all the Goji boxes for me: ✔ Chunk ✔ Charm ✔ Chompers Will definitely be on the lookout for this fella.
