Must be oldskool member month here on skullbrain, with all these threads asking"where are they now?" Personally I like Frank, he never held back, and I love people here who could give a crap about status quo.
I can think of a few boardmembers who have seemed to disappear recently. Garreth Infinity- Did he leave for a polar bear forum? His drunk posting, entertained me. And Andy hasn't been around in a few months, no updates on Kaiju Korner either.
I love Franks western work and ultraviolance releases have solid QC as far as I am concerned, but as far as kaiju go please do not bother unless you are helping commision an awsome piece, anything I have seen him paint with the exception of his multi neon spray chaos is bleagh and if I did not grow up in the 80's I probably would not feel it
I'd love for Frank to make a comeback. I've been a longtime supporter and have utter craploads of his stuff. He's done some interesting things with a couple of smaller "platform" pieces (Lucha Libre, for example) that I've enjoyed a lot. In my current purge of my Western vinyl, very few Kozik pieces are on the chopping block. And, quite actually, it's Frank's fault that I'm such a RxH kitty-head.
Fuck quality control. It's the blatant ripping off of ACO popularity that doesn't sit well with me. Remember his Ludwig Bust? I remember chiding him about that.
I love LL too, but is he rocking a Cosby sweater? I have to say I miss Frank as well. He is never afraid to speak his mind, and that counts for a lot.
Which is which? Nah, just playing. I guess what I was getting at was that Frank seemed to be honest about wanting to make money. NagNagNag seems all about making the right "plays" to drive collectors into a frenzy over his crap. Now, by all means, getcher hustle on. NagNagNag's clearly got enough people duped to ensure his longevity. And that's cool, I guess...I mean, we ALL hustle...but it seems very disingenuous in contrast with Frank's shut-the-fuck-up style... Or is it still apples and oranges?
maybe frank just likes Clockwork Orange, I have never heard anyone gripe about any tributeways so how is this different??? and yes I remember the bust I have a neon pink one on my mantle looking rad badicle, and I only like the busts he does with minor tweeks they feel neo classical, not a fan of mouse ears myself
Yeah it was a decent 5 figures a year on customs sold to people who are also on the internet and had access to the interview. The inference that the customs were only being done for the money didn't help but at least there was no duplicity. Driving people off is a talent albeit one not appreciated by all.
Maybe this talk was only his defense mechanisms kicking in because he was just too macho to admit that he liked doing this for us boardies. (is macho still even a term?)
Frank told me once that he was a big Clockwork Orange fan. I think that he is guilty of occassionally putting his foot in his mouth, because he says what is on his mind, take it or leave it. As for money, this is a big factor for him. In most conversations, it will come up. Frank has had a difficult time in alot of his life and this has affected him. He may not be a starving artist now, but he has more than paid his dues in the past. As for him leaving this board, it is a loss for us, not so much for him. I sincerely believe he was here as a fan, not just to hawk his goods. He may seem tough as nails, but when the haters kept on him, as he used to call his critics, he simply decided he did not need the hassle. It would not surprise me if he still surfs here anonymously.
Maybe he is amassing another, another, collection of jp vinyl at cheap prices he can sell off for a profit when the market is right?
