Yeah, generally when it’s an 8” figure or smaller the DHL shipping is about ¥1,600. I just had a big ass box from Buyee shipped to me via DHL that was $87 and change, which was a lot lower than I expected given the size of the box. I don’t have exact dimensions on me but I think it was about 14” tall and 16” wide. And the weight was about seven pounds.
^ Thats not bad at all! Not too much more than EMS. Ive got a ton of stuff ive been holding since like february, was thinking of asking them do do DHL.
I’m in the same boat. Two massive boxes held at buyee for months. I’ve only consolidated the first one and although I don’t have the dimensions, the weight is only around 9 lbs. Unlike Robert however, dhl shipping is quoted at just shy of $300. So I wait
@gazpacho Goddamn, $300?! I know dimensions play an equal part of the shipping charge as the weight does with DHL. So maybe it’s just a damn HONKIN’ box that’s killin’ the dollar amount. It’s a bummer to have to keep waiting, but to shave down the cost for EMS I’d say is worth it.
Folks in Australia waiting on EMS to resume... Question... I'm trying to work out who is making the decisions re suspension of EMS to Australia? Because they sure are delivering to many other countries /destinations. Is the suspension decision being made by the Australian government? Or, are the decisions being made from Japan? Here's the link for the delivery breakdown for EMS, country by country (with specific detailed notes at the end of each column): https://www.post.japanpost.jp/int/information/overview_en.html
@spacemonkey66 I think its a bit of both .. there are very limited flights and that bumps up the cost to get parcels on planes so EMS post prices vs delivery is out the window so I think its just been suspended .. I am in the same boat man and Melb is very difficult to post to at the mo unless you use private service like DHL
I won the recent Atom lotto and he shipped using Yamato Transport. Sure it travelled round Asia but it made it. Weirdly enough a USPS parcel from the U.S. made a pit stop in Japan first. So its doable, EMS must not think it’s worth the trouble however.
I had something shipped via Yamato Transport (and apparently handed off to UPS) recently as well. It got to me in about a week.
https://www.post.japanpost.jp/int/information/2020/1008_01_en.html Still not going from Japan to US as far as I can see.
Hey all- has anybody bought from Mandarake yet in 2021, and if so, how has shipping been? I know many of us were surprised at the relatively low pricing and (lightning!) speed of their DHL shipping in 2020; I am assuming DHL is still operating out of Japan w/ no suspension (have not heard any news re. that), but wondering if Manda's contract pricing w/ them went up at the beginning of this year. It must be assumed that the pricing was so low through last year b/c their contract w/ DHL was negotiated pre-COVID; if they are on a year-to-year contract, I would think it must have gone up.
It depends on which Mandarake you're ordering from, they have different rates. I ordered three Bullmark minis from CooooooCoooooo in Akihabara last week, DHL cost only 1,460 and they were here in three days. By contrast, someone on the Postal Woes thread said a package from the Sahra store was expensive.

Most makers I've seen switch to Yamato Logistics. Costs seems to be about the same, maybe a bit more. US fulfillment goes through UPS. I've had no issues and pretty prompt delivery. M-World is using FedEx; WAY more expensive than EMS (2-3x).
What’s the transit time on yamato logistics? I ordered from secretbase this week and I have no idea if I should be expecting it any day, or in weeks.
@hellopike last package I got from Yamato took about 5/6 days total. For some reason, the international tracking link didn't work for me but this one did: http://track.kuronekoyamato.co.jp/english/tracking Once its in the US, they add the domestic carrier tracking.
From Japan to Arizona it’s been between five and seven days for me. And I’ve had a decent handful of Yamato shipped packages from Chiba and Nagoya. The cost is a little higher, though. What I’d usually pay around ¥2,000 for I’m now payin’ ¥2,750 to ¥3,000. Small increase to be able to still get packages, so I don’t mind! Hopefully EMS can return soon, though!
I can confirm that FedEx (International Priority) can be horrifically expensive if the service does not have some special deal with FedEx. For example, Hobbylink Japan ships via FedEx Intl Priority and it is the same or less than EMS in most cases. I used the same FedEx Intl Priority with my buying service and I would ballpark estimate it was 2-3 times EMS.
Yup! I have a teeny tiny parcel waiting to be shipped from JP since last year. Quoted a price of 4000 JPY to ship by FedEx, no DHL available, so still waiting for EMS it be revived.
